Synapse applying 'Battery' settings when plugged in on 2020 Blade Advanced

I just purchased the new 2020 Razer Blade advanced with 2080 Super Max-Q and 4K Screen.

I'm finding that changing the lighting settings in the 'Plugged In' profile is having no effect on the either they keyboard lights or the logo. However, when I change the 'Battery' profile settings, they do have an effect even though my laptop is plugged in and fully charged.

This made me wonder if Synapse was also applying the battery performance profile instead of my custom 'Plugged In' profile which has the CPU and GPU set to max. Sure enough, whilst running benchmarking software, the cores are maxing out at around 4.8GHz; well short of the 5.1GHz boost speed the CPU should be capable of.

It appears as though Synapse is unable to detect that my laptop is plugged in. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling it and am running the latest version. There are no updates, BIOS or otherwise showing on the Razer Support site for my product. I have tried calling technical support but haven't been able to get through to an agent that can help. This the first time I've purchased anything other than Mac since 2006 and can't say I'm very impressed so far...! If anyone has any ideas I'd be most grateful!

Do you mind sharing screenshots of what settings you're trying to change, so we can get a better understanding of what you're trying to do? Also, please note that the lighting profiles are separate from performance profiles. I'd appreciate if you can send me a PM with the serial number of your laptop, so I can verify the model and maybe try to recreate what you're trying to accomplish from my end.
I think I may be seeing the same thing. I purchased the same setup (2020 razer blade advanced with 2080 super maxq + 4k screen). I plan to use it as my development machine working on a VR application. One of the fist thins I did when I got it was setup SteamVR and hook up a headset to make sure it performed well. I got 90+ fps in VR, which is great. The next day, I went into VR again, and performance was absolutely terrible: 10-15fps. I've been troubleshooting ever since, even going so far as a full from-scratch reinstall.

When I saw your post, I tried changing the plugged in brightness setting in Synapse (while plugged in), but it had no effect. But if I change brightness for the battery setting, I do see the change take effect (still plugged in). So now I'm wondering if my performance issues are because everything is in battery mode. Unfortunately, Synapse doesn't let you change GPU settings for battery mode, so I can't test the theory.
Yes that's exactly what I was experiencing. The issues I was having seem to have gone away, and I have absolutely no idea how - I haven't updated anything or changed any settings. But the 'Plugged In' settings are now being applied, as expected. I hope yours resolve themselves too!
I found that if I disable "Battery Boost" in the nVidia app, I can get SteamVR to have decent performance again, so it's definitely related. Hopefully Razer Support can help me, now that I've narrowed the problem down.

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your workaround. Does the issue persist after applying that step? Help us by investigating by sending photos of the following:

a. BIOS main tab

1. Navigate to settings. You can get there by clicking the gear icon on the Start menu.
2. Select Update & security.
3. Select Recovery from the left menu.
4. Click Restart Now under Advanced startup. The computer will reboot to a special menu.
5. Click Troubleshoot.
6. Click Advanced options.
7. Select UEFI Firmware Settings. If you don't see this icon, then press Startup Settings, instead. When your PC is restarting, tap F1 (or F2) to access the BIOS.
8. Click Restart.
9. Your system will restart and take you to the BIOS window.

b.. System Information (Press Windows Key+R on your keyboard. Inside the Run dialog box, type “msinfo32.exe”)

c. Synapse version

Please save the files via Google Drive or to another online drive account then paste the link together with your PM. Let's continue from there.

Thanks for the update! I've replied to your PM.
I had the same issue with my new 2020 Razer Blade advanced with 2080 Super Max-Q and the 300 hz screen. Synapse seemed to think I was running off the battery and I was getting horrible FPS on almost every game. I was averaging about 20 fps on COD: MW on low settings. I spoke with support about it all day trying to find a work around and ended up sending my laptop back and they are sending a replacement. If there is a solution to this please post it here! I don't want to end up with a similar performance issue with my replacement.
I'm disappointed to hear that they never found a solution and sent a replacement instead. I really don't want to have to do that, but this problem defeats the whole purpose of getting a machine like this. Disabling battery boost helps, but it still doesn't run as fast as when it correctly identifies as plugged in. Probably because of other power saving features. Support replied to my PM with 'disabling the “Battery Boost” function on the NVIDIA control panel will keep the laptop running at maximum settings', which just confirms the work-around, rather than solving the underlying problem.
