Fix for Synapse 2.0 and MacOS Mojave

If you are having trouble getting Synapse to run stable on MacOS Mojave; try the following which fixed it for me.

Goto
Preferences> Security&Privacy>Privacy>Full DiskAccess

Add all three Razer services: RzUpdater, RzDeviceEngine, Razer Synapse.

It appears the drivers are using deprecated libraries to access the file system; and don't have enough access to do what they need to do with the new secure APFS. Prior to this my profiles kept vanishing on restart of the software and the software was completely unstable. After this change everything is working better than it has in months.

So there you go N=1 evidence an a whole. 10 hours of testing. but looking up.

In case you didn't the other thread, a complete rip and tear seems to be required as well to get the new version installed
Synapse and Mamba on macOS 10.14 Mojave Beta - Shortcuts not Working
ripped and teared it twice - no change....

Button 4+5 (standard dpi sensitivity) - won't change whether I try an other option like keybinding etc.)
I can't seem to find the RzUpdater and RzDeviceEngine files. When I go to add them in Security & Privacy they are simply not displayed. I can see them under activity manager.

Any tips?
Sorry I should have included that, they are in the system level Application support directory.

/Library/Application Support/Razer/RzUpdater.app
/Library/Application Support/Razer/RzDeviceEngine.app

I tried this, didnt work
I need to uninstall/reinstall and the only way to start synapse after i started my imac for the day is to go to /library/application support/Razer and click RZupdate to reinstall my saved settings on my razer mice.

So yeah rinse repeat every day to get the paperweight to move the cursor, forget the rest.

Didn't work for me either.

Frustrating. I do a fresh install, and I can open Synapse and see my mouse in the lower left... but I can't adjust any macros or settings. Then I restart, and I can't see the mouse at all any more. Synapse is just a blank box. I've added everything to Accessibility and Full Disk Access, and nothing.

Worse... when I open support tickets, Razer just keeps putting me a in a loop asking me to re-install and then transferring me to a different service rep to start the process all over again. Worst customer experience ever.
None of these fix ideas work for me at all. Razer doesn't give an F about this.
Nothing from this thread works for me.

Is there to get any Razer employee involved in this.

P.S: BlackWidow Elite keyword in my case
Yes please fix this software! The hardware works great, but your software does not work reliably on Mojave.
Razer Synapse just isn't detecting my blackwidow elite in general. I just see the "Please connect a razer synapse enabled device". I have Mojave as well. Any tips on getting my keyboard detected? I just want to change the light to rainbow waves
The Synapse is a joke on Mac OS, also it looks like some 13 year old designed it as a school project.
How about you hire some real software developers? Going to be returning my Razer mouse because of unreliable behaviour on osx... having to unplug-plug the mouse all the time to reset the left click going missing is just too much to handle.
Hi everyone. I have a Razer Orochi and my macbook is running MacOS Mojave. The mice connects, buttons works but I cannot make cursor works! I've tried on a windows machine and works properly. Any advises? thanks
PLEASE, RETURN MY MONEY!
My basilisk is not working either. Lights work and synapse lets me change the color but the mouse in general does not work. the buttons, scroll bar and ability to move the mouse on screen all do not work
After a long time trying to get Synapse to work on Mojave, I finally found a solution on my system.

Navigate to /Library/Application Support/Razer, create a Contents folder, navigate into it and create a PlugIns folder.

The app was crashing as it tried to look for that path but it didn't exist...
Thanks, I've tried this solution on my computer. Unfortunately, there is no discernible difference for me yet.
Just to be clear, I created the following directory structure:
/Library/Application Support/Razer/Contents/PlugIns
I then launched Synapse using the menubar option and it crashed. Or do I need to restart first for this fix to make a difference?

thanks this was useful!

for me it does not work. When I can find the smbd file on mac?
it does not work for me. It is necessary the file smbd? Where I can found it?
Hello,

I don't know if I will be able to resolve everyone's problem, but I was able to resolve my problem which was somewhat similar to what some of you may have.

I installed Synapse 2.0 (1.86) and after login in, I was not able to "Allow System software from Razer USA Ltd."

I saw this discussion on the forum and added all 3 apps:
/Library/Application Support/Razer/RzUpdater.app
/Library/Application Support/Razer/RzDeviceEngine.app
including
/Applications/Razer Synapse
Both places: Accessibility and Full Disk (why not go crazy!!)

But that didn't resolve the problem. So I contacted Razer Support and we went through a lot of troubleshooting streps.
Some where interesting:
Change the file permission in:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.razer.rzupdater.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.razerzone.rzdeviceengine.plist
(I added my account read and write on thjose files).
But that didn't resolved the issue.
(I was told to reboot my computer which ended the chat)

My next contact, suggested that a file may have been corrupted and told me to do a complete un-install and re-install:
In the Terminal:
launchctl remove com.razer.rzupdater
launchctl remove com.razerzone.rzdeviceengine
sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.razer.rzupdater.plist
sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.razerzone.rzdeviceengine.plist
sudo rm -Rf /System/Library/Extensions/RazerHid.kext

Uninstall Razer Synapse.
- Open Finder and click on Application.
- Click on the search bar located at the upper right and type in Synapse.
- Select Uninstall Razer Synapse.

In the Terminal again:
sudo rm -rf /Library/Application\\ Support/Razer/
But that didn't resolved the issue.
(I was told to reboot my computer which ended the chat)

My third conversation spent a lot of time with the "Specialist" and suggested that I downgrade my computer.
However, that was something that I couldn't do. So we discussed for a while and as I was writing in the chat window, I recalled that the issue was that the button was not showing up in the Preferences System in General Tab and if somehow I could trigger that button, then i would be able to move forward. And that specific task or "Security" to allow software installation is called Gatekeeper.
After hearing the "Specialist" that I should once again enable the Apps in the Privacy Preferences and then reboot the computer, I decided to end the conversation and try something.
Back in macOS 10.10.5, I recalled that Gatekeeper was already messing up with the installtion of software. Especially in enterprise environement.
So I ran the command line to disable Gatekeeper
sudo spctl --master-disable
And when I launched System Preferences, I could see the Always option (to Allow Apps) but still no button.
So I restarted my machine (again). And unfortunately, no progress after launching Synapse.
But, when I opened System Preferences, the Always option was gone!!
That's when I realized SIP (System Integration Protection) was preventing modification to be done on GateKeeper.

So I restarted my computer, only this time in recovery mode. I disable SIP by typing in the Terminal
csrutil disable
And then I restarted my machine.
At first, when I launched Synapse, I got a different message telling me:
"Please connect a razer synapse enabled device" (A different message. In IT, a different message is always progress).
So I decided to do full un-install and re-install of the software (One last time) and luckily for me. Once I launched Synapse, the mouse was recognized by the software.

After that, I rebooted my computer to Recovery to enable SIP again by typing in the Terminal:
csrutil enable
and now I can enjoy the mouse.

Sorry for the novel, but I am so happy to have resolve my issue, that I thought I could share it with the community!

Good luck with your issues, and never give up!
