Linked Games and Auto Profile Switch no longer works after an Synapse Update (Jan 2026), profile switch doesn't affect the apps i'm using. i did a clean install to the software, the linked games now takes forever to scan games and i can't even add programs to it.

i’ve installed Razer Cortex and that also takes forever to scan games. what is going on with razer and their scan feature being completley broken recently?

now it says “Requires Razer Synapse”, i tried it on another computer and it’s still the same thing. :(

I have an open ticket about this issue. They’ve responded and we’ve had a bit of back and forth, with them just suggesting the usual stuff(repair, reinstall after driver clean, scan windows, even updating .NET Framework). None of this suggest that they are aware of the issue and that it is most definitely on their end.

I hadn’t made a single change to my PC before it stopped working. Had no idea the Synapse software even updated itself sometime between the end of Jan and 1st week of Feb. I really don’t like when I don’t have control over when an app on my system performs and update. Especially when it comes to stuff like this when an update clearly breaks something. I will usually give an update some time and check online for any buzz that there’s issues before eventually updating myself.

Check Macro Key Binds. When I re-imported my macros and profiles, the key binds didn’t make the journey, and I had to re-create them for every application.

Also, a few applications are no longer detected due to modifications in the last public release (MS Edge, Google Chrome, VS Code, Windows Explorer, others).

My issue was slightly different, but I wanted to share how I got my games linked in case it helps anyone else.

  • I installed a new Steam game, then went to Synapse → Linked Games and clicked Scan. The new game didn’t show up. I then clicked Browse and selected the .exe, but it still didn’t appear after manually adding it.
  • Next, I tried dragging the .exe from File Explorer into Synapse while the Linked Games page was open. It looked like it accepted it, but the game still didn’t show up.
  • What finally worked was closing Synapse completely. I went to the system tray, right-clicked the Razer Synapse icon, and selected Exit. After reopening Synapse and going back to Linked Games, the game showed up, and I was able to link it successfully.

This makes me think there could potentially be an admin permissions issue, even if you’re using your own PC with one admin account. If your Synapse installation is fresh and clean, one option may be to fully close Synapse and run it as administrator.

Also, if Synapse was open while you were installing a new game, closing and reopening it may be enough for the scan button to detect the newly installed app. A reboot would be another easy thing to test.

Another possible factor could be antivirus/security software. If you use third-party antivirus and haven’t added exceptions, it may be worth checking Razer’s support documentation for recommended exclusions. A quick test would be temporarily disabling the antivirus, trying the scan/link process again, and seeing if Synapse behaves differently. I personally don’t think this is as likely to affect Linked Games, but it’s still worth considering.

For automatic profile switching, my understanding is that you can have your normal Windows profile selected, then when you launch a linked game, Synapse should switch to that game’s profile. When you exit the game, it should switch back to the profile you were using previously. I know older versions required every profile to be linked to an application except for the Windows profile, but I believe newer versions just switch back to the previously selected profile.

Another recommendation I always forget about is checking for firmware updates for all your Razer devices. For example, I have the Basilisk V3 Pro, so searching for “Basilisk V3 Pro drivers” should bring you to Razer’s driver/firmware page. From there, you can download the firmware updater, and it will guide you through the process (This isn’t going to affect our linked game troubles I think, but still good to do).

Just note that firmware updates usually require the device to be plugged in directly. They typically can’t be updated wirelessly. Also, some older Razer devices use less common cables, so if you don’t have the right one handy, you may need to grab one online. Updating firmware especially helped me with wireless connectivity issues on my Kraken V4 Pro headset.

This is probably overkill, and a lot of people may already know most of this, but if it helps anyone, I’m glad I overshared.

As for the original poster, if the scanning process seems to be taking a really long time, that kind of sounds like security software, permissions, or something system-related could be slowing it down. Windows updates and Disk Cleanup may also help depending on the setup.

Wish I could be more help, but hopefully this gives someone a few extra things to try.
