Razer Synapse 4 Crashes After Launch — Any Updates on the Fix?

Hi everyone,

I recently contacted Razer Support regarding an issue with Razer Synapse 4 crashing a few seconds after launch (case handled by Rex from support). I was informed that the team is aware of the problem and currently working on a fix that will be released in an upcoming update.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else here is experiencing the same issue, and if there are any updates or temporary workarounds that have helped.

Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions!

Yeah, the constant crashing is exactly what I’m facing. It’s surprising that the issue persists across different Windows versions as you mentioned.

I did this as well. I wish to see them take action and try to solve this issue as soon as possible.

I had a very similar experience. I also tried clean installs, deleting leftover files, checking permissions, and disabling antivirus, but nothing helped. So you’re definitely not alone. I went through almost the same steps. Razer Support even asked for full access on my PC to check the issue on their side, and the problem still wasn’t resolved. So it seems the issue is deeper than missing files or permissions.

Lamentablemente, no conozco la solución a tu problema, pero lo mejor es contactar con el soporte técnico y preguntarles exactamente cuál es la causa. Si no lo solucionan (lo cual es poco probable), pregunta a la comunidad.

Glad to hear yours isn’t crashing often — it seems like the issue affects users randomly depending on hardware/software setups.

I tried again just before Christmas to install on my laptop, both my computers have the issue of crashing once the Synapse 4 has been installed. Both are different mainboards, laptop is an MSI and tower is ASUS RoG Strix. Both computers have their own dedicated RGB lighting, so I cannot remove the hardware, nor do I wish to remove the software on them either because Razer Synapse cannot control the built in lighting. Sadly, Synapse 3 works perfectly, it has no issues with either of them and both computers went from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro, both worked perfectly fine even with the stock RGB lighting they have.

My laptop at Christmas behaved exactly as it did earlier this past fall after installing S4, it looked fine, started to update the 80 steps to get up to snuff then the program opens, for all of 5 seconds and I do not even get to move the mouse to the little popup windows to close them for the tutorials and its all gone. This is very frustrating and my solution was to revert from a clone of the OS drive to its previous state which is only a month or so old. Thus, I have no install log data to try and upload nor is this kind of response a reassuring gesture on the part of the company that a solution is forthcoming.

As I have noted in a prior post, I have been a loyal supporter and user of Razer ever since 2004 when the Deathadder first came on the market. I love these peripherals and have spent thousands over the years keeping my machines in top gaming performance using the best of the best. Now… my faith is shattered.

My new solution. I have already purchased replacement devices from a competing manufacturer that I know works well on my tower so I have only to install and set them up. I know we can still use Synapse 3, but if it no longer has updates, or support or cloud storage of profiles, then it is not going to be a reliable product to keep on the hard drive.

Why do this? Sometimes reinventing the wheel is not a good idea, it tends to fail horribly and this is the fallout that everyone has to go through who does not want to fully replace their machines for ones that are more compatible and work with a newer generation of software and more ‘current’ hardware. I’ll keep my mouse on my laptop,, but I can no longer rely on it for gaming as it just won’t have a functioning driver application to run from.

Removing the feature to control the aRGB lighting is not a solution. It is a temporary fix that may or may not work. I would not have purchased specific input devices with aRGB lighting if I did not want to have said ‘lighting’ effects active. As a note, every game I play has a custom keyboard layout that I have made to ensure I know at a glance what key is needed in game: maps have a specific color, bags or inventory, game menus or skills and abilities. movement keys (when no mouse is used) and of course special keys I assign for macros and the like.

Using a separate keypad, which also has its RGB keys color bound to the same as the full sized keyboard but obviously the layout may be more compact and better planned for using a single hand to actuate every gaming command as required, still would be disappointing to use without the lighting feature set up on it.

Part of why Razer’s aRGB lighting products are so popular is that we can customize every key to a color of our choosing to help us recognize at an instant what we are doing. It was never about ascetics, which is also a nice feature when you are away from your keyboard/mouse, but when playing, these are features that help just giving a little more of an edge of the Razor to win.

If the company cannot figure out the problem, it is understandable because there are several hundred combinations of hardware and software that could cause conflicts with their devices. That being said, the issue is then that if a prior version has no problems with other aRGB lighting hardware and that hardware’s drivers and programs… then the question is what changed in the newer version of Synapse 4 that is doing this? Synapse 3 is stable, and integrates with a slew of other manufacturer’s devices and the software that makes them work. So what what went wrong?

I have done as I said I would do in a previous post. I’m using other hardware and enjoying that fact that it works just fine with my motherboard’s lighting. I changed the aRGB controller to a hub that runs off one of the motherboard’s aRGB ports. All of my water cooled heatsinks, reservoirs and fans are illuminated through the motherboard’s built in hardware and the software. I planned on replacing my keypad no matter what after seeing this new controller that blew my mind in its design and ease of use. I will never go back to any other company’s left hand keypad controller ever again as this is the cybernetic input of the future as far as I am concerned.

I do honestly miss the combined lighting effects that Razer has in their Synapse 3 software, I do not think any other manufacturer out that has ever been able to do what they have on that front, but if the lighting will not work properly with the intent is was designed and created for with other hardware and the accompanying driver software, then what can we, the end users, do about it? Nothing until Razer fixes the issue or we seek another form of input devices to fulfill our needs.

Wow, my PC has 25 Razer devices on it. Synapse is good Chroma has many issues. I put my entire room on Synapse 4 compatible devices just for Chroma and it has caused me nothing but problems in Synapse 4.

Oh, and I have freyja and it has had bugs for what I can tell is months. Always see people saying they reported it but things never change.

Chroma has been highly neglected and no one has anything to say about it. Joined in 2017. 2025 seems to be the last year I will be buying Razer products. I guess after 50 devices a chair, the floor mat, several sneki merch. At least the Sneki throw blanket will always work. Super soft and cuddly too. This is not acceptable and needs properly addressed.
