Razer Synapse not switching profiles for some (major) apps

It is not a bug.  It is a policy decision.  they package it in a different way, but ultimately it is policy.  Here is what they have been saying to me:

“At present, the architecture redesign means this functionality is not available, and we do not have an immediate workaround beyond manual profile switching. While we cannot commit to reinstating the feature right now, your feedback has been escalated to our development team and remains part of ongoing discussions about future improvements.” Support Team Lydia

“Please be assured that your feedback has been escalated to our internal team. They are currently reviewing the possibility of implementing automatic profile switching for non-gaming applications. While we cannot provide a specific ETA at this time, once there is an update, we will reach out to you directly.” Support Team Harris

They have a workaround.  Please attach a manual switch profile command to a button. From Support Team Harris

It comes for me, too little too late.  I have made the switch from a Razer Basilisk mouse - which fitted me perfectly, to the updated version of my previous mouse: Logitech G502 X.  As far as I am concerned, I will live with the Logitech software, which is not quite as user friendly as Synapse - but it works, and works well.

I understand that they offered that as an excuse, but that response doesn’t make sense. If it was intentional due to a redesign of the program, and are removing functionality that has existed for several major versions, then by definition, a major version, synapse 5, should have been released. Either that, or release it to a insider/beta channel, so the issues can be worked out prior to releasing it as a stable update.

Manual switching is not a reasonable workaround, as it requires me to do something, while before, it was automatic. I use the device for productivity, constantly switching between development software such as vscode, jetbrains suite, and several browsers, and adding a manual operation is a decrease in productivity.

Being offered the last minor/patch version with this functionality would be a much more reasonable fix/workaround, but I cannot seem to locate the previous minor/patch/build versions to install, only the online installer. Another option would be to open source the product, so we can fix their software for them, but I know that is highly unlikely in this day and age.

Personally, I have yet to use any new feature beyond what synapse 3 offered(which was easy to modify being dotnet, nearly open source), and may end up using that until I write my own profile switcher, either interacting with their current software if possible, or talking with something closer to the driver. It is just a sad state of affairs to see such good hardware coupled with some of the worst software experiences.

So do I until I gave Razer the f***ing money switching from DeathAdder V3 to V4 that only supports Slopase 4 and turns out I totally deserve it.

I received an update that is at least suggesting that they are looking to fix the software. Here's hoping. 

"This is to provide an update on your case. Upon further review, we would like to inform you that we are aware of the current issue, and our team is actively investigating it...."

I also have received two emails for different issues with that sentence included.  My opinion is that it is a form letter.  I have yet to see any actual improvement based upon customer experiences.

Call me cynical, and you are probably correct.  I have given up hoping that Razer will have the end user in mind, when making policy decisions on the software.

This is not restricted to auto profile switching per app at all! I’ve zero apps connected. Latest synapse update broke things with profile switching in a major way! My story is:

I have a Basilisk v3x hyperspeed mouse and a Aether Monitor Light Bar. Had them around for 2 years. I’ve 5 lighthing profiles in my Aether Light Bar, and set a mouse button to “Inter-Device > Cycle Up Profile”(see img).  Up until this update clicking the mouse button cycled between light profiles properly.( profile 1> profile2 > so on)

NOW: With the update, the shortcut button only pops up notification (see img) but does not cycle at all, same with any other option to switch profile, also same with setting anything in “Global Shortcuts” menu. Razer seems to vibe code and break the profile switching features in a very fashionable way it..

I made the switch back to the Logitech G502X. The software works, it just isn't as user friendly as Synapse.

The advantage is you can bundle programs together, so one setting will change all.

it is beyond ridiculous that they have gone out of their way to reduce the functionality of the software and devices by actively blocking Chrome and other productivity apps from working with linked profiles.  i opened a ticket with support, everyone else impacted by this should also; it’s the only way they will know they screwed up and need to fix it.  switching to logitech would fix it, but i’d much rather razer just correct their mistake.

I have made the switch to Logitech for the mouse, the keyboard will be later in the year.  The software works, but is not as user friendly as Synapse, and there are limitations which is a pity.

I am glad, however, on making the switch.  Razer Support justifying the policy decision, and not doing anything about the customer has forced this issue.  Razer hardware is one of the best, their software and support means they will start losing sales.
