Synapse 4 / RazerAppEngine startup is broken unless launched with --url-params=apps=synapse

Hi there,

posting this because the usual “clean reinstall / use the Razer cleaner / check services” advice did not fix anything.

Issue:
Razer Synapse 4 stopped loading correctly on Windows startup. The Razer tray/container starts, but Synapse itself does not fully launch. Opening Razer manually shows that Synapse is not running or only partially initialized.

What I already tried:

  • Full uninstall of the Razer package

  • Razer cleaner tool

  • Fresh reinstall

  • Windows Fast Startup disabled

  • Razer Elevation Service set to Automatic for testing

  • Task Scheduler delayed startup

None of that fixed the real issue.

What the logs show:

  • RazerAppEngine.exe is running.

  • RzEngineMon.exe is running.

  • Razer services are running.

  • Synapse installer log shows “installation complete.”

  • But launching only RazerAppEngine.exe starts the tray/container, not the actual Synapse module.

The important finding:
Razer’s own launcher log shows Synapse is supposed to be started with:

--url-params=apps=synapse

When I run this manually:

C:\Program Files\Razer\RazerAppEngine\RazerAppEngine.exe --url-params=apps=synapse

Synapse opens correctly.

So this looks like a RazerAppEngine / Synapse 4 startup-routing bug. The normal startup entry appears to launch the container, but not the actual Synapse module. This is not a mouse issue, not an Elevation Service issue, and not solved by reinstalling.

My workaround:
I disabled normal Razer startup and created a Task Scheduler entry at logon that runs PowerShell, waits 15 seconds, then launches:

RazerAppEngine.exe --url-params=apps=synapse

That works, but users should not have to create scheduled tasks to launch mouse software correctly.

Time to switch to Logitech?
