Volume control roll bar and multimedia keys don't work properly

Blackwidow V4 Pro and Synapse 4 installed.

If Synapse is running and I run other certain apps, like a music streaming app, multimedia keys don’t work there and volume control stops working. As soon as I exit the music streaming app, volume control shows up reacting to the roll bar with significant delay. But sometimes it stops working at all. Only if I exit Synapse, it’ll be working.

I tried all the steps proposed by support documentation, like rei-installation of the keyboard driver, Windows update and clean re-installation of Synapse, but they didn’t work.

I have the same problem.  I uninstalled Synapse 4 for a different and unrelated reason and now the only time that the multimedia keys will work for anything other than a scroll wheel is when I shut down Synapse.  Any solutions?

Having the same problem here too.  The volume is acting as a scroll wheel but when i check the settings it says it is attached to the volume controls. Volume works fine with Synapse shut down. Also can not get the reactive colors to work.

same problem

I was able to solve my issues. First I went to installed apps and uninstalled all things razor. Then I opened file explorer and opened the program files folder and deleted all razor folders. I did the same for program files x86 too. Then I restarted computer and reinstalled synapse only. I unchecked the chroma app and skipped the others. After that installed then I installed chroma. Everything now works as it should.

OMG Thank you that worked!!!!!

It worked, but only for some time. I was testing this solution, which seemed working at first. Volume control started to function as it should, so did multimedia buttons. Even the problem with integration with Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has gone away.

But now several days passed, and here I have again same problem: volume control doesn’t work in a music app or simply on YouTube.

I’m tired of this low-grade software and returning the keyboard to the seller.

I solved the problem with uninstall the drivers in device administratror, and delete every driver like a old keyboards and changed the USB port in MB.

Extra step: I clean all registry of w10 with a program for that, and uninstall razer synapse with Revo unistaller and install on clean.

I will hope this solution solves the horrible problem with synapse 4.

I was able to “fix” this just by completely closing out all 3 apps. Once they are all closed, my media keys function as intended. But can only have 1 app open before losing function again.

Have you tried my solution at the top of your comment?

Started experiencing the same issue with the volume control wheel turning into a scroll wheel on webpages, etc, even though the volume control is still assigned as volume control.

Volume control works when synapse4 is no longer running, but as soon as synapse4 loads, the volume control reverts back into a scroll wheel.

Issue only started happening with the newest update to synapse4 for me.

Hi Team,

I was having the same issue as below:

Started experiencing the same issue with the volume control wheel turning into a scroll wheel on webpages, etc, even though the volume control is still assigned as volume control.

Volume control works when synapse4 is no longer running, but as soon as synapse4 loads, the volume control reverts back into a scroll wheel.

Issue only started happening with the newest update to synapse4 for me.

This is a new Windows 11 install. I had my keybaord on a windows 10 with no issues, it only started once I moved the keyboard over to my new machine with windows 11.

I did an upgrade today to version 4.0.86.2511180837. So far my media keys are working.

Nope. Having the same issue on my Windows 10. Both on Synapse 3 and 4.

Had this problem a few months ago… uninstalled synapse 4 and reinstalled 3, worked like a champ…

Banner said “upgrade by feb 3rd!” and silly me, I listened with the hope that maybe they’d solved some of these issues. But here we go with the volume control nonsense and the sometimes work, sometimes dont keyboard profile swithcing.

Been a loyal Razer person for years, but this is bad.

They are getting worse with bugs that haven’t been fixed for at least 4 Years, despite Support promising that it will be addressed and sorted out. And EVERY time you try to report a bug, all you get is useless tech support that goes in a circle.

Just did the same to me, as well, as of today. It was working as intended last night, as well, but today, when Windows 11 did some update that I was not aware it was even going to do, my BlackWidow V4 Pro Volume Slider now refuses to acknowledge any change I make to the function. It INSISTS that it be a scroll wheel and nothing else. I’ve literally tried to reset the keyboard, restart computer and program several times, reinstall several times, and nothing changes. Only when I completely close out the Razer programs do I see any change, but JUST to the scroller. And yes, I HAVE tried, as I’ve said, to change the function of the wheel itself. Not only does this not fix it, but no matter what I set the wheel’s function to actually DO, it continues to function as a scroll wheel. Change brightness? Mic Volume? It SAYS it will do that, but when I go to test it? Scroll wheel function. Never acknowledges the change.

That’s because NONE of the multimedia knobs on the right hand side are responding now as of today. The rightmost one that is used normally to mute is doing anything, either. I can press them all day now and nothing happens. That is, UNLESS I remap the mute button to do “Mute ALL”. THEN it will work at intended. But “Mute Volume” for some reason will make it refuse to do anything. And it will ONLY work this way if Synapse is open. If it is not, the volume wheel WILL work as intended, but then none of the other multimedia controls do, which creates quite the issue if you need both, which many, me included, do.

Also, nothing I remap to control volume will control volume. I remap, go to use it to control the volume, and nothing changes with said volume.

Sounds like whatever they did and what Windows 11 did broke everything about how these buttons control within Windows, and it’s conflicting with anything that these buttons are intended for. If someone can confirm that this started happening in the most recent Windows Update, that would help a LOT.

My scroll wheel issue was solved when I plugged in with a cord rather than using 2.4 or Bluetooth to connect wirelessly. Plugging in fixed the issue on both windows 11 and on latest version of MacOS (Tahoe 26.3), both running Synapse 4. It’s not a wonderful solution as all functionality should work regardless of how it’s connected, but now I can control volume as expected and feel a little less like punching someone.

I am using a cord and it doesn’t work.   I am sick of this garbage software crap.
