Razer Blade 14 7700 always idling in the 60s° C

Did you already finish all the update like windows, drivers, bios/firmware (if there’s any update) etc? Fans Kick in may have something to do with that, background activities. How about max load temperatures? I don’t have Blade 14 2017 anymore but I remember at first months owning it had similar Fans behavior. I remember only in 14 months owning it, on idle it’s dead silent with randomly but not often fans kicking in that only noticeable in silent environment. Load max Fans may annoying but temperature stay max on 80ish which is in tolerable area.

I did a clean and fresh install, only using the newest drivers and Bios Firmware. On load in Games the cpu hits 86 Celsius and the GPU is in the lower 80s. So Nothing special here. On idle I always have 5% usage on cpu by the system process.

In my perspective that’s great temperatures for the device, similar with mine was on gpu usage , I remember now that I set on that model to 99% maximum power state on advanced power options both plugged in and on battery in order to get better temperatures and battery life beside undervolting.

I already disabled turbo boost, concerning the 99% maximum Power state.

So it should be fine, I think on my new Blade 15 8750H even mostly on 40 to 50ish degrees on idle sometimes may spike to 60ish, and at first week having it it was also similar with my previous Blade 14 always kicking often on idle without doing anything, now I rarely notice it or maybe just don’t put attention anymore. If you uncomfortable with that you can rise supports ticket and proved them with details like video etc for most objective solution.

Letting it idle over night it CAN reach 55-57° Celsius. But now again - without any tasks running - it's idling between 63-65° Celsius, which shouldn't ne normal. Even simply opening one tab in Firefox gets the fans to kick in... One thing that bothers me as well is the power consumption between 12-15 Watts on IDLE!

Rubino, from windows central was sharing his experience in this forum with FHD though since it’s his favorite resolution and write the review, comparing with late 2016, he mentioned somewhere I remember, lower cpu temperature than late 2016 isn’t needed as long as it stays quiet and more battery effective (late 2016 fans is louder and more aggressive than effects the battery). You can’t expect under 10Watt with 4K display, Blade 15 with bigger screen size also consume around 12 Watt when screen refresh set to 144Hz, with dozens tweak I can manage to achieve under 10 Watt.

The Razer Support Team just told me that the temps in idle are fine. From my point of view it's just bad thermal design. Even after repasting with IC diamond and repadding with grizzly thermal pass the temps stay the same. The only way could be repasting the CPU with liquid metal.

On Adapter I get 4-8 watts on idle. On battery I get 1-7 watts on idle. The 1060 is idling around 55° C.

It’s around same watt usage with my old Blade with disabling gpu switcher so it’s pretty normal, though my idling temperature was a bit lower on 50ish with undervolting directly through bios (bios moding was needed to me at that time) and on Factory paste (didn’t repasting it). Fans was kicking randomly on idle but very rarely.

Razer won't do anything, because in their opinion the temps are on the higher end, but not problematic. Funny fact: When in Bios or when the Monitor shuts down by itself the temps are going high and the fans start to spin for no reason. Liquid Metal is coming today and I will (only) repaste the CPU, all safety precautions included.

Fans kicking on start up is similar with egpu setting gpu Fans behavior, system and windows check the hardware that connected. Though on my current Blade 15 it’s not as noticeable as egpu fans sounds, maybe it’s due windows optimization and update on background, but sometimes the fans kicking on but not on high rpm and not annoying. Btw i don’t quite understand what do you mean by monitor shuts down by it self. LM is risky and may void your guarantee (from the name, are you from Germany? Mediamarkt or Razer store, because mediamarkt I believe only a year if you don’t upgrade the protection plan unlike Razer store with default 2) there’re some success stories but there’re also failed cases. I would recommend you to check enthusiast forum like notebookreview forum before, and in worst case, be prepared that you found some corrosion and the top on the worst case found a hole on it that made the Blade completely useless since you have to exchange entire motherboard that is quite costly if it happens. I just saw recently that on Razer subreddit that case, you can also check it. Hope it’ll be fine though.

I finally repasted it with grizzly conductonaut and it only lowered the cpu temps on load by 5° Celsius. I even repasted it a second time making a very thin layer of liquid metal. So I'm pretty sure that the heatsink is garbage and I would need a new one. Nevertheless I'll let my Blade be as it is now.

Ok, Guys: You won't believe me, but I found a solution for my Problem. And this solution is the weirdest I've ever encountered. First of all, the problem that my Blade gets high temperatures on IDLE is software-related: that's for sure. The "solution": When I start the programm Photoshop and start working on other stuff (Browsing the web, watching Videos), letting Photoshop still open, my Blade only needs 3 Watts of power! After letting it idle for a bit, my Blade stays at 47°C which is Pretty awesome for me and I can work with a silent System. I can also use 99% of the CPU power with no temp Problems. BUT: If I DON'T open Adobe Photoshop and let my System idle, the Blade needs at least 8 watts of power, idleing in the 60s. Well, the current Workaround is to deactivate the OnBoard graphics Card and to activate it again in the device manager. Problem solved.

Interesting. What does Photoshop have to do with your solution? Was Photoshop disabling the dedicated graphics? There's a really thorough guide in my signature that goes over everything you can tweak to reduce temperatures and increase battery life. Doing a re-paste with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut was huge for me as well.

The problem is software - related. When I install any driver version for the integrated Intel graphics 630 HD, the Power consumption of my Blade is between 1-3 Watts and the CPU usage is between 1-3%. But after one restart both factors are much higher, followed by high temps. The only workaround is to disable and enable the Intel integrated graphics again in the device Manager. By the way: battery life is doubled after this workaround!
