blade 15 base adding HD in the Spare 2.5 slot makes it hard to turn on issue?

without adding a HD in the 2.5 slot the laptop turns on just like normal. but once i fill that open bay with a HD you have to play with opening and shutting it to get it to turn on. and when you remove it it goes back to normal and powers up just fine. and ideas as to why or any solutions?
