I have:
- 2016 Razer Core
- Sapphire Nitro AMD 5700 xt
- Macbook Pro 2019 (Intel)
- 2 Dell monitors hooked up to graphics card display port slots
Problem:
- This egpu is supposed to be plug and play with my Macbook Pro but that does not seem to be the case. The Macbook doesn't show Razer Core or AMD card as being connected to the computer. I have Windows bootcamp enabled and interestingly enough Window's can detect the AMD card but I am getting error 12 code.
I previously had a Nvidia 3060ti inside Razer Core and that worked via thunderbolt 3 connection with my Windows bootcamp install on Macbook. I no longer have the 3060ti so I'm not able to continue testing with that. I recently got the AMD 5700 xt so that I could use egpu with MacOS.
The AMD 5700 xt was a tight fit in the enclosure but I was able to get it properly seated. The card's fans turn on when enclosure/macbook are connected via thunderbolt 3 cable. The cable itself is a bit worn out. The plug doesn't seat well in the port and wobbles around a bit causing connection to interrupt. I have a replacement cable coming tomorrow. Even though this current cord is worn, I was able to get it to work with 3060ti just the other day before I sold it.
Is it possible the egpu enclosure, Razer Core (Not Razer Core X), isn't providing enough wattage? I saw the the max draw for this card is somewhere near 300 watts.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
