Cabling recommendations for max refresh rate

I don't the first dock will work. I'm pretty sure 1440P @ 120hz requires a ThunderBolt 3 port. The one on the dock appears to be plain USB C. @Joikansai You have any input? You always seem to know what's up lol.

Damn sorry I missed this @ChiefNieth , you can shoot me pm, it’ll show on my private email...hopefully;) @mhaddy found the solution? I don’t have Blade 14 1060 anymore, but it could run high refresh rate for sure unfortunately not g sync, i think it’s because different pch and TB3 architecture compared to current Blade 15 that has DP and hdmi connected directly to gpu. I used similar dock as well before got Razer Core, it could run 144Hz monitor, but I played at that time open world and didn’t use max 144Hz, it was around max 80fps on AC Origins, since for the game I prefer quality than fps. Note on some mid tier docking station it may bring connection (dis and reconnecting) issues with pheriperals that plugged, especially on high load where bandwidth traffic inside TB3 port (run through pch to cpu) is full. On this case best docking station to use is TB3 docking that has higher bandwidth and with its own power supply like Lenovo TB3 Dock. But again unfortunately it won’t to take advantage of your monitor g sync technology.

Thanks for the input, @Joikansai. At the moment, I just picked up this USB-C Thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable and have been running at 100/120 Hz. Only issues are... - I've set the monitor to overclock mode and the OSD says 120 Hz, but Windows doesn't always keep this setting. Sometimes I restart and find it's running at 60 Hz. Going back into the control panel and changing this back to 120 Hz fixes the issue. - I can't use the monitor only and turn off the Blade display, I can only Extend my desktop. I don't suppose any of this is cable-related [that a dock would fix]?

Yes sometimes windows will lower refresh rate, notice it as well sometimes. Not sure about not being able to use only second screen, heard similar thing on egpu setting in mac world but first time knowing on non egpu setting, maybe it’s because TB3 architecture isn’t the newest one (early 2018 Intel update to support DP1.4), but I can do on old Blade stealth 2016 with usb c monitor that option, only that is 1440p 60Hz monitor, and with my dock it even didn’t work outputting DP signal only HDMI. Maybe your best way to do that by trying dock like one user shared here, works fine on his old Blade 14 and new 15 one, Lenovo TB3 dock.
