Can't remap mouse buttons of my deathadder elite on my macbook air

So I just got a deathadder elite, and in the synapse 2 software it won't let me remap the mouse buttons to a keyboard function. I can get to the appropriate screen where it asks you to press a key to bind the button to, except no matter what button I press nothing happens. The same occurs whenever I attempt to record a macro; I press buttons during the recording, then upon testing the macro it's as if no keys were pressed at all. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried reinstalling and updating all of my software and everything to no avail.
