Question about the core x

hi guys

I am thinking of getting a core x to link up with my laptop. But I have a question about the graphics cards. Want to use a multi monitor setup if I do this so, can I use the core x without a card so the onboard laptop card powers the monitors, if not can I get a lower spec card tell the programs and games to use the onboard graphics card? Basically does the card in the core x have to be better than the one in the laptop?

Cheers

Hi,hi :)

You can put any card you desire in the core x, it does not have to be a "better" or faster card. As long as you dont put any card into it and just attach it to the laptop, wit works as power supply only and thats just fine - if we are talking about TB3/USB PD on your machine- which leads me to the question:

you didnt mention about which laptop are you talking exactly? Cause this matters a lot obviously. And what graphics port does it provide?
I’m looking to buy a the razor 17” I have a brilliant large monitor I want to use with a couple of standard desktop monitors as well. I want to use the graphics card on the laptop and don’t want to have to buy another card the same or higher to get the effects.

You don’t need core x to run your brilliant monitor Blade Pro 17 (I’m assuming 2019 model) can run three monitors from its ports, I would recommend using the TB3 port connection by using right adapter (usb c to DP for best Bandwidth and adaptive sync support), since hdmi and usb C may limiting your brilliant monitor capabilities like maybe 144Hz or g sync).

Great cheers for that
But if I wanted a core x and just put a 1080 card in, would I have to use that for my graphics or would I still be able to use the 2070 from the laptop

You can use one of that card by manually switching it per device manager or using Razer GPU switcher Beta. But your 2070maxq would outperform 1080 due TB3 Bandwidth, plus pch route gpu data that slow down the performance, so I don’t see the needs of Razer Core X, unless you want big cpu thermal improvement for sharing temperature (dgpu off that make more cooling room inside the Blade).
