Razer Blade 14 (2014) nvidia GPU problem

Hey folks,

I've been grappling with this issue for a long time and I thought I'd make a post.

Maybe 2 years ago, my laptop started shutting off during intense gaming. I got a cooling pad and it still happened. I was sure this was a heat issue, but now I'm pretty sure it's not.

More recently, it started powering off the moment a newer game wanted to leave the main menu. It's as if when the gpu is supposed to produce graphics, it powers off. Most recently, Battletech and Insurgency: Sandstorm.
Battletech has run on my laptop in the past, but shut off after a while. Now, as soon as I try to load a game, it powers off.

What's weird is that I can play Darkest Dungeon, Kerbal Space program and Company of Heroes 2 on the integrated intel graphics. It runs pretty slow and crappy though (as you would expect).
When I disable the integrated graphics, the nvidia GPU takes over and all non-gaming is solid. When I boot up Company of Heroes 2 it runs like a slideshow, but it runs.

Also, I can't select the nvidia gpu in the nvidia control panel- says Permission Denied.
When I disable the intel graphics, the nvidia control panel says there's no nvidia card present.

It's such a weird problem..

Drivers are up to date.
I installed the Win10 drivers exactly as described in the "update to windows 10" instructions for my laptop.
I replaced the battery to reduce heat.
Hardware monitor and stuff doesn't show anything weird. No high temps, nothing.
Hardware manager shows gpu is working normally

Does anyone have any idea what I should do here?
