Micro SD Card Help | Razer Insider
Good morning Ladies and Gents,

I have a RP2, for the last month and have been loving it every day.

My questions are about the way SD cards are used as internal Memory.

I have a 256GB Samsung Evo Select .

Before Using it, I tested it on my laptop to make sure it was good.

I used my RP2 to reformat the card to be used as Internal Memory.

Now here is the weird thing.

My card now says 512GBs and 261GB are used as System

( as shown in the pictures below )

I would like to understand why this is happening , is this an issue or just the way the PR2 makes internal storage for full phone use across all apps?

Any and all help/info into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your time in advance.
Hey @EnnOfWorldGaming

This was a known little gremlin with Oreo on the RP and Samsung cards (not sure why)

Android Pie was released for the RP2 unbranded models last week so if that's available to you to update too can you try and then report back what the storage says then?
I got the RP2 a few days ago and immediately updated it to Pie but the issue still exists...

I have a Samsung EVO 64GB Micro SDXC memory card. If I format the card as "Portable storage" the correct size of 64GB is reported. However, the card can only be used for "transferring files and media between devices." If I format the card as "Phone storage" then the card can only be used for "apps, files, and media" on the phone and the card size is incorrectly reported as 128GB with 65GB consumed as System files.

This is annoying, I want to do both functions and can't. Every phone I've ever had before with a micro SD slot allowed for both functions, operating as an extension to the phone's storage that you could move apps to and run from the card and as storage that you could use to transfer music and other files to using a computer.

How and when can this be resolved?
Also, I recall reading somewhere that all supported micro SD cards are affected. If it were just a matter of buying a brand other than Samsung, I'd have done it already.
Is this why whenever I take a pic on my phone... Move the vid to the SD card... It just shows up as a gray block and is corrupt? (SD set up as portable)
I got my phone from AT&T , so the Pie update is still pending >.>

Don't get me wrong I have full use of my card and all its space.

I just hoping Razer will give insight on why the system reads cards that way.

Samsung is a great brand for Memory Cards Ive never had a problem with any of the ones I have used in the past.

Thank you all for replying to my weird post ^.^

check the memory with the H2testw utility. Maybe SD card broken, or size fake
H2testw is the program I used to test my card as well.

I advise you to analyze the data that appears after formatting. I think that android transfers a cache and not system software to the card
Solution was not only using a different app other than photos (piktures works well).. but also after moving anything to SD card you need to reboot. Then you can see what you moved and is no longer gray.

Same here I have a 128 Samsung SD card it shows as 256 lol. Awesome selling point
I thought I'd post a follow up to my original message. The advice I received from support was:

Perform Hard Reset, to do that simultaneously press and hold the Power Button and the Volume Up button for about 15- 20 seconds.

Please back up your data then do a factory reset and if issue occur please let us know.

I did this and then formatted the card as "Phone storage" but the size is still misreported. Further, the phone automatically moved every app that could be stored on external media to the card even though I selected to skip the process until later. I decided to live with it for a while to see how it worked. Using apps stored on the SD card is fine but...

The issue I'm having now is that apps stored on the SD card can't be updated unless the app is moved back to the Razer Phone 2's internal storage. This is total pain because each app has to be moved back individually before being updated. Bulk moving apps in Android only works in one direction. I have AppMgr III PRO to bulk move apps between internal phone storage and the SD card but it doesn't function as well as I'd like.

If anyone has ideas how to resolve this, please share.
Good morning all,

I have no problem updating all my apps, they always Update when I'm charging , I never had an issue about updating .

I do have to restart my phone when I am moving files to get them to read correctly on my Black music player or VLC but I am ok with that .

Again thanks to all for whom replied to my weird post ^.^
