Razer Phone 2 Camera App updates? | Razer Insider

Razer Phone 2 Camera App updates?

So, I've been struggling with some issues with the Razer Phone 2 camera app for a while now and didn't manage to find an actual fix for the following issues:

  • Portrait lens/Zoom crashes the camera app and requires phone restart in order to start working again (until the next crash)
  • Can't save .raw files
  • Can't change the save location of photos and videos to external storage

The save location is annoying but not really a show stopper, as I can manually move the files every once in a while, and the lack of .raw format is a little frustrating, as editing .jpeg with external software requires a lot of extra work for subpar results, but none of these are as critical as the issue with the zoom lens, as it happens very frequently and reboot the phone every time is really annoying (and actually compromises the functionality of the camera).
The only "fix" I found for this is actually using Google Camera app, but this requires a manual APK installation and the final result is not really ideal, as it relies on outdated Google Camera app versions. Play Store replies to my complaints boiled down to "Clear app cache and restart", which didn't really solve anything, and "contact Razer Support", which provided pretty much the same "solutions".

Is there anything already out there to fix these issues on the actual Razer camera app? Or is there a planned update for addressing these in the near future?

Thanks in advance,
Best Regards.

I have a razer phine 2 and have the same exact same issues. Can't find a fix online. Hopefully some admin can advise how to fix the camera issue
just try the original google pixel 3 camera software. by now its the only camera app i use - and its awesome. the nightsight mode is better than any other night mode feature i have seen on a phone.

you wanna go with the "MGC_6.2.030_RazerPhone2_V5", as its just the newest version. its nearly bug free, completely stable and has loads of features. why not use it?

manual apk installation requires one click to temporarily allow apks. you can disable it afterwards. where is the problem with that?!

Unfortunately there is a crash issue with the camera. The software team are aware of it but it's a system problem afaik so a camera APK update won't fix it and it requires a new system update to fix.

For now you can install the Google Camera Mod from here it's the latest available.
@Rox598 so Razer is aware of the camera issue, great. I wanted to claim via RMA that my exchanged unit has defect with the telephoto camera. Will they fix it? Or they are just aware and going to leave it like this?

No need to RMA it's a software issue.

I hope they do but I know the same as everyone else.
It is saying the pixel camera is no longer available at the link listed
Razer, if you are going to fix the bug with an update, might as well add pro camera controls while you are at it. It is unfortunate that such a nice phone with an equally nice camera is not utilizing a powerful aspect of the phone. If you want to remain competitive, I believe first fixing the camera software would be a strategic move. I personally would be less interested in a company that doesn't invest in a good camera on a $800 phone. I love the Razer phone 2 and I just got it, but not having access to half of my camera's capabilities or access to pro camera controls makes me want to carry my old phone so I can take good pictures and video. I have high hopes in you Razer. That is why I invested in you, it would be a shame that features like: one of the strongest CPUs and GPUs in a phone, solid speakers, powerful 120 hz refresh rate screen, dual 12 Mp back camera, and much more would be offset by the camera software working so poorly that it is painful to use.

I appreciate the reply. I'm already using these gcam versions, although I didn't know they had a newer version out, so thanks for that.
There's no real "issue" with manually installing other apks or anything. It's just that I like my stuff to work properly without me having to resort to workarounds/alternative solutions.

V5 freezes for me. V4 works like a charm.
I'm having an issue with my camera app where everytime I try to record a video in any resolution at any framerate, I hit the record button, it makes a noise, the record button moves down, then right back to where it was, and it doesn't record anything. I can't record any videos. Has anyone had that issue before? It's extremely frustrating when I'm at special events and I can't record any video.

As I mentioned before, so far it works like a charm. Just give it a try!
I had these issues too but I got an android system update a couple weeks ago or so and it has been better ever since then. Have not experienced any camera freezes or crashes since I don't think. I had to manually go check for the update if I remember correctly. Anybody else having better luck now or is it just me?

Did anyone else get this update? I had returned this phone because they never fixed this bug but if it's fixed I will happily buy it again.

huh? What do you mean by "did any one else get it?" Afaik he is talking about THE large system update that was released ~1 month ago. And obviously everyone got it. (sooner or later depending on if you have retail or carrier version)

It was the first - and only - update since march. And so far it seems to be working really fine. Native Razer camera app doesn't crash any longer - although I can only repeat: I really recommned trying the google pixel camera, as it is still way better and has been bugfree all the time.
Some of us live for software updates. The thrill that comes with getting a new software update, even the smallest of them all, is something else. However, not always do we end up with the best of experiences with each and every new software that we receive on our beloved smartphones myloweslife
