LOOK's AWESOME
AWESOME! Razer is evolving and evolving to ultimate gaming powa
Really, you released it 2 days after i spent 150 bucks on my new lighting setup 😞... what a bad timing 😞
I really want to like this product but... the cost is just way too prohibitive. I understand there are R&D costs etc but when you can buy almost 10 meters of addressable RGB LED strips for around the price of the expansion kit alone personally i just can't justify it.

The control unit + expansion costs AUD$170 from the razer store - that's vastly overpriced compared to competing products such as the corsair node (less than half that price for a controller + 4 addressable strips). Maybe it's a problem with the web store's inflated prices (Blackwidow Chroma V2 is AUD$340 on razerzone compared to AUD$215 at my local PC store) but it's going to have to come down a lot for me to bite.

This would've been an instant buy if the price was just a bit more reasonable. Razer products are generally somewhat competitive on price for feature set compared to competitors but this one is vastly out of line with it's AUD$100 "works with synapse" surcharge
very good :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye_:

Well you are correct there, about R&D costs, however I think that this kit currently is meant for developers not average end users, hence the high cost of the first few units.
Do not quote me on this, but I am almost certain that the price will drop somewhat within a few months (probably 20-40 bucks at most though).
Since similar kits with a controller are only somewhat cheaper, however they lack so many effects and features. (closest I can think is NZXT Hue+).
Developers?

The people knowledgable in this hardware know you can buy a 5 metre strip of digital LEDs for half the price as this. https://m.aliexpress.com/s/item/32688092455.html

They are charging for nice packaging and Synapse integration and warranty and support... they spend much more on software and support than they do on hardware. "Developers" would prefer to "develop" their own.

This is for end users who don't want to muck about with power supplies, interface chips, device drivers, people who want a warranty and some technical support if necessary: the opposite of a developer. You get none of that buying a bare strip.
You partly misunderstood me - Chroma SDK dev's, not the "real" ones out there, who would indeed make their own software to those cheap LED strips.

Either way the price point is not that high compare to other similar competitors.
DIY is always (almost) cheaper, than buying something ready for end user.

so such thing as a in-stock notification?

Oh. Duh. 😳
And here we see that razer has decided they need more chroma. now we can make our own razer toasters.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!! I have been waiting so long for you guys to come out with this. So we get a new razer desktop chroma case right?
Oooh i want this!

Or at least offer a kit to change over the case that already exists in a DYI fashion. Honestly it wouldn't be that hard to replace the bottom two lights and the front panel, but a bit expensive to change the entire case just for Chroma. Hope they do think of away to change out some of the lighting!
I was wondering about these, I was thinking 4 for the case and 2 for the monitor is that possible I know one box can handle 4, but is 4 too much inside the PC case?

I'm assuming you can hook up two of these to the same PC without any issue?

I seriously think you are overthinking this, I see one, tops 2 being enough for the case itself (internals).

On the wish list is Razer Antec case. /the-maingear-r2-razer-edition.24956/ Now to add the lighting would make it stellar!
Don't know about Razer strips as such, but other LED strips have been successfully and beautifully used as 4 strips around the window. Looks awesome.
This is great and all, but usefulness is limited at best until Synapse 3 is out of beta. As it is it can only sync with devices recognized by Synapse 3 beta, presumably just the Lancehead and Lancehead TE 😕
Well SDK means in developement anyway, so who knows, maybe their aim is to get more Chroma apps, features, etc done with the strips before S3 release? 🙂 would be cool.
I can confirm that Synapse 3 only supports the Chroma HDK and the Lancehead. Seems like we'll be running both at the same time which worries me a bit from cross talk but so far so good.

Based the way the software lays out the strips so far, it appears there may be longer ones in the future. Which is good as I wish to replace my Philips Hue light strip with these permanently.

I would test if it supports more than one controller, but I didn't buy two because I didn't want to invest to much on what is basically a dev preview. Again the way the software address the controller it appears that you can have more than one.

i cant wait to pick this up and try it for myself!
