Hey everyone! I can't believe it has already almost been 4 months since this post came up and Chroma has come a long way since then! The Audio Visualizer is no longer an early build and the setup process is very simple, I've updated the steps below accordingly.

We really appreciate all the work our community developers have put in to push the potential of the Razer Chroma technology and our friend @CalcProgrammer1 has really done a solid job on the Audio Visualizer. This new Audio Visualizer gives you the freedom to customize the color scheme and tweak its amplitude so you are only limited by your own creativity. Did we mention it’ll not just react to your music, but also to game audio?

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version
  • Once updated, make sure that under your Chroma device > Chroma Apps tab, you have "Chroma Apps" turned on
  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer
  • Install the vc_redist.x86.exe file that comes together in the zip
  • Launch the Audio Visualizer and get rockin'

To those facing the "mfc140.dll is missing" issue
Download the Visual Studio Redistributable version "vc_redist.x86.exe"

As this is a very early build, it clashes with Advanced Configurator occasionally.
Change your effects to the default ones e.g. Wave, Spectrum Cycling. You can then launch the application and your keyboard/mousemat/mice will show a blank slate until a sound is played.

The visualizer bars are really low, anyway to fix that?
You can bump the bar's height up by increasing the amplitude or your volume (not too much please).

How do I get the colours like the ones in the video?
Adjust "Foreground Mode" to the colour scheme that you like. In the video, I used "Rainbow Inverse". You can also add a "Background Mode" should you like.

Does it react to any sounds besides music?
It takes your Windows sound input, hence any sound - including your games or movies!

Do I have to turn off Synapse?
Closing Synapse before launching the app will be the safest.

Keyboard goes black but it does not react to any audio
As the program is reliant on some limited functions by Windows, be sure that your volume is cranked up or adjust the "Amplitude" to a higher value (Try in the 500s or 1000s)

I can't get it to work due to misc reasons that we have yet to identify
I apologize for this, this was meant to be a beta build and I shared it earlier as I knew the video will get you guys psyched for the app! We are using your feedbacks to build a better experience.

While it may be tedious right now, we WILL be reducing the steps and processes in due time with Synapse and etc. That is on top of more product support. Hang in there!

Not sure, as I don't have the Hue+. Maybe comment on the Hue+ github issue so that the other Hue+ users can see and reply.

I created a simple program that edits the settings file to get it to work on blackwidow chroma v2. Just drop it in the same folder as the KeyboardVisualizer program.

How to use:
-Open KeyboardVisualizerVC.
-Click "save settings" button.
-Close KeyboardVisualizerVC.
-Open audio_visualizer_file_repair.

Now KeyboardVisualizer should work correctly when you run it next.
This program simply adds the line
razer_use_keyboard_generic_effect
to the end of the settings.txt file without overwritting your settings.

Note: If you click "save settings" you will need to run "audio_visualizer_file_repair" again.

How long would it take for the Ornata to make the compatible Keyboard list?
So far I wasnt able to get it to work, it made my keyboard flick whenever I opened or closed it but never did it respond as desired.

I'm looking to get the equalizer mod working.

So, I'm really hyped for this app to work (hopefully with my Razer Ornata Chroma), but instead of changing my Ornata's lights, it changes my laptop's keyboard lights XD
Don't understand exactly how Razer Chroma changes Steelseries lightning, but a lot can happen apparently. Razer Ornata is just a static rainbow in the meantime...

I support MSI SteelSeries laptops as well, as I have one. It supports more than just Chroma. Ornata should be supported though, has been for months. Use the latest version (3.04 as of now).

I have the Blackwidow Chroma V2 (firefly + mamba as well) and I've tried adding 1 and 2 lines of razer_use_keyboard_generic_effect to the end of the settings file (using 3.02 - 3.04). I've also tried using the audio_visualizer_file_repair on a fresh settings files and an edited setting file. I managed to get it working one time (by manually adding 2 lines) but as soon as I closed the app and tried it again later everything was just black, if I switch audio device to my headset microphone the background effect on keyboard / mouse / mousepad stays even after switching audio device back to default loopback device but no foreground effects. I've tried with snyapse closed and opened, I've tried with antivirus off and on, I've tried running as admin. I probably tried 30+ times before I got it working the once and didn't save settings after I got it working so not sure why it stopped.

I doubt you can help me get this fix working, but mainly I was wondering when a real update for Blackwidow Chroma V2 might be expected.

Thanks so much for all your hard work, it was awesome the few hours I had it working.

EDIT SOLVED:

I solved my problem, if anybody else has another TV/audio system setup through a receiver connected to their computer running this but the receiver input device is on the cable not computer (so the tv audio system wont show in your listed audio devices on your computer) that is the problem. If I flip my receiver to input 2 (my computer) it starts working again.

So if you have any audio systems/devices hooked up to your computer but they do not show in your listed audio playback devices (even if your not using those anyways) that might be your problem. It seems all devices must show in that list or this wont work.

EDIT 2 :

It apparently only will work with the tv speaker system not any other audio devices for whatever reason I don't know. Even if all devices are listed in the audio playback devices. I have a really shitty cheap Chinese hdmi amplifier / receiver thing so maybe it's because of that.

Ok so i dont know if anyone else has had this probelm or not and if it was solved, but lets be honest, im not gonna read through 81 pages of replies ;n; I have the audio visualizer installed, but it only links up with discord when people talk and it wont work with anything else. Whenever i try to run the vc_redist.x86.exe file it says I already have it installed and that it cant complete the install, although when i look through what Visual C++ files i have its not there. I have chroma apps enabled, I've tried upping the amplitude (to like 20000 and still nothing happened). It changes the background color on my keyboard but its like its just not picking up any other audio. It doesnt show any other applications on my Synapse other than the visualizer. I dont quite know what else to try so if someone could try to help i'd be v happy cx
also for the record i have a Deathstalker Chroma and a DeathAdder Chroma

OK so far I'm loving this, but I was wondering if there was any chance of having different lighting zones have different effects, or be sensitive to specific things. Like for example, have the Thumb Grid on the Naga Chroma react to Bass, the Razer Logo react to Mid, and the Scroll Wheel react to Highs/Treble?

i don't know, i'd like to make the visualizer run on my Synapse as the other configs for the chroma and not as just a "stand-alone" exe but i didn't find any solution 😨

Just picked the Orana Chroma today and was stoked to see this because I'm always listening to music, but I can't get the damn thing to work either. My KB just goes dark when I activate the program.

Finally figured out why it wouldn't work with my Ornata Chroma. I was downloading the 1.11 version directly from this page. Go to the Chroma Workshop and download the 3.02 version. Why the creator hasn't update the link on this page, I don't know.

Hey so i downloaded the programm and it only works on my mic i have the razer chroma 7.1 headset and it only works on my mic i put my mic and everything works fine when i put my headset as the audio device my keyboard goes black and nothing happens any idea how to fix that?

Having a strange issue.. The lighting on my keyboard is reacting as if it's slower and more blocky than before.
I haven't used the app for a week and now I pop it back on and I just noticed this happen.
Haven't changed my settings and it was working perfectly fine.

You can basically compare it to a game that used to run at 60 fps but suddenly runs at 15 fps..

Anybody got an idea what could be the reason?

For some reason the visualizer looks nothing like it does in the video. Instead of being vertical bars on the keyboard it's a horizontal flood of color across the keyboard. Please help.

That means you have a Deathstalker Chroma.
There's nothing the Visualizer or the developer can do about it. It's a hardware limitation.
The Deathstalker doesn't have individual key lighting. It has lighting zones instead.
