After hearing nothing but praise for the 2023 Razor Blade 16 Mini-LED screen from reviewers, I purchased one from Amazon in July 2023. Wow, was I surprised and disappointed to discover the defective BOE panel I received which has all of the same issues being reported in forum posts all over the internet. I heard talk of a firmware fix from Razer so I've been patiently waiting for the past 9 months for any sort of update or announcement, but of course that has not happened.
Because I only have a few months left on my warranty I reached out to Razor Support seeking an immediate solution and I was told "Our engineers are aware of the issue and looking at improvement. It will likely come in the form of a Firmware update. For now, your case will be closed while we work on building the fix." Ok, not helpful.
So BOE panel owners, have any of you been offered a real solution by Razor Support? I consider the following options to be real solutions:
- Return for a full refund
- Exchange for a 2024 OLED model (which reportedly have no issues)
I consider the following to be fake solutions which I am not interested in:
- Wait for a fairytale firmware update to arrive until my warranty expires and then be told "sorry, your warranty has expired so there's nothing we can do anymore"
- Send the laptop in for "repair" which 100% means it will be sent back with the same BOE panel and same issues
Any advice on how any of you worked with Razer Support to achieve a real solution would be much appreciated. Also, I know there has been plenty of talk about pursuing legal action and banding together for a class action lawsuit. However, I'd love to resolve this without needing to resort to that if possible.
Lastly, you can see the horizontal lines and extreme blooming issues in the videos linked below. Definitely not acceptable for a $3,000+ USD laptop. Thanks for reading, folks.
