Crazy-high Temps in Starfield

I’m playing Starfield on my 15” i7-12800H 3070 laptop. I’m getting temps that are breaking 100 degrees, so I’ve stopped playing to sort this out. I’ve tried re-rendering the shaders as well as lowering the performance specs in-game. Temps are still about the same.

Is Cortex overclocking the laptop, which might cause such problems? What can I do to manage the temps so that I don’t melt my CPU? It doesn’t feel like it’s throttling, even at these temps. I’d love some help, as I don’t know much about these matters.

Did this topic help you find an answer to your question?

Hey there!

Thank you for sharing your issue with us here. My name is Michelle, and I’m part of the Razer Cortex technical support team. I am happy to help you out.

Razer Cortex does not have any overlocking features. One feature that may have small effect on the temperature is BOOST. You can go to GAME BOOSTER > BOOST > Specials to deselect “Disable CPU Sleep Mode” and “Enable game power solution”.

If the temperature still remains high after you deselect the above two items, it means this issue was not caused by Razer Cortex.

Here is a screenshot for reference.

We look forward to your reply. Thank you!

Michelle

Thank you for the reply, Michelle,

I did as mentioned, and also dropped the specs on the game down to around 45%. The cores still peak at about 104, but the average run temps are between 75-85, which I think are manageable. It’s not as pretty, but it runs.

It does seem like overheating under load is an issue for the laptop, which is surprising given that it is made for gaming performance, but not surprising as it is a laptop. It seems that the hardware is more capable than laptop cooling can manage. I’ve ordered an IETS GT500 Notebook Cooler, which I hope will keep things manageable.

Do you have any other suggestions regarding managing cooling issues for Razer laptops?

Thank you,  Ryan

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your response.

As the owner of a Razer laptop, which is a premium product carefully engineered by an in-house team for the purpose of performance gaming, I expect customer support to help me resolve technical issue which arise during the normal use of the product. Overheating during gaming is a serious issue which can permanently damage the unit. I need to better understand what are the technical thresholds of the product, what I might be able to do when those thresholds are breached, and how to determine if I have faulty hardware which might lead to critical failure. If I do have a faulty unit, how do I get this repaired under warranty in my location? My rig is still peaking over 100 degrees in my CPU cores during regular gameplay.

As a purchaser of your premium product, I also expect premium support. The suggested of solution of ‘browsing the internet for solutions’ is beneath the standard of care that I expect from Razer.

Having the same issue, talked to one of the Razer Support representative and she said "oh, that's fine". No, it's not fine overnight for my laptop to overheat like this with no changes (one representative was really nice and continued to troubleshoot while another said it ok like this contact us if this happens) yo, it's happening right now.... :/
