how to disable mouse 4 and 5 backward forward function

I use Razer Viper Ultimate. I often misclick to bilateral mouse 4 and 5’s when on windows, while holding the mouse in a relax position. I want to disable that buttons’s backward/forward functions in windows explorer and internet browsers.

Just unbind (disable) them in Synapse.

If you want to use them again in a specific app or game, create another profile, where it’ll be enabled, then bind specific app(s) or game(s) to this profile. So when you’ll run app or game it’ll automatically load proper profile.

Is there any way to do this without disabling the functionality of the keys completely?

I’m using one of the buttons as “Push to Talk” on discord and would prefer not to have to find another button for the functionality...

Nope, there’s no other possibility.

As mentioned above you can create specific profile(s) so it’ll be enabled when you’ll run specific app or game, and disabled for others (or vice versa).

I had this problem too.  I was able to solve the problem by remapping the button I use (button 4 in my case) to an obscure keyboard sequence (ctrl + alt + num - worked) in Razer Synapse.  Then I went into Discord, go to the shortcut for push to talk and press the now-remapped button.  That changes your push to talk to the same obscure keyboard sequence.  Once done, the button click still activates push to talk but doesn’t get caught by browsers and other apps as a back or forward action.

You’re welcome.  ;)

Thanks for the advice Promethia13, I’ll try that.

Still I think Razer should let me decide what the button does instead of just letting me enable/disable it. That doesn’t seem very user-friendly.

@FiszPL  @Terza3003  @burak044  @Promethia13  @Nero905 hey guys i had this problem years back with my browser while using mouse 4+5. theres software called “X-Mouse Button Control” which lets you map your buttons on your mouse. so in the app, you would add each app you want to edit your mouse controls. you would then select the mouse 4+5 and disable them. ez pz lemon squeezy

Yeah, that’s not what I meant though. I could disable the button in Razer Synapse, but I don’t want to disable it. I want to use it, I just don’t want it to do what it currently does.

I like using Mouse 4 as my PTT button in Teamspeak and Discord, always have, but unfortunately that button is mapped to “backwards” and so when I use it and simultaneously have a browser windows open, or Discord, or any other program that uses that button, then it does things that it’s not supposed to do.

I want to keep using the button, I just want to change what it does. I used to be able to do that, but I can’t remember how.

Bro lmao @Nero905 did you even read the entirety of my post or even try the x mouse app?? . It you disable the button via synapse it completely disables it. If you use the x mouse button control app like I mentioned, it only disables the buttons when certain apps are focused. It still lets you use the bind for ptt. I use mouse 4 as well. Next time try it out before saying it doesn’t work bruh, you’re welcome

I did try the app, guess what, if I disable to button in Discord, it’s disabled in Discord, so no PTT in Discord.

well that sucks, i have default binds on synapse. and on xmouse button control, i disabled mouse 4+5 on discord and it still allows me to use the bind. maybe try having the bind set first if you haven’t yet before disabling in x mouse.

@Nero905 i use a program called autohotkey and run a specific script that disabled mb 4+5’s backwards and forwards commands but still allows the keys to be used as a shortcut in games and discord. it wasn’t even that hard to setup a script for it as its simply done like so:

XButton1 up::
XButton2 up::
return

leave the script open in the background and maybe even put it in your startup folder so it starts when you launch windows and you’ll never have to worry about it again. from what i gather this kind of fix is exactly what you’re looking for. hope it helps despite being months late <3

Thank you, this is what I wanted. Works great so far. I only wish there was a way to do this within Windows or Razer Synapse without having to get any extra software.

@Nero905 Are you sure you have tried exactly what @FreshAirfrontpulse037 said? Cause based on your query, i’m 1 million percent sure this can be done super easily in Synapse. I think you didn’t try or didn’t setup a profile properly for the discord app. Maybe you created a discord profile in Synapse but you didn’t link the program. The person that suggested to use ‘autohotkey’ does exactly what synapse does if done correctly.
