Lost All Profiles and Settings After Updating to Synapse 4 and Chroma Studio Split

Kaanahmet070

Hey everyone,

I recently updated from Synapse 3 to Synapse 4, and with this update, Chroma Studio was separated into its own application. Unfortunately, this change caused me to lose all my previously configured profiles and settings for my Razer BlackWidow keyboard.

Here’s what I’ve lost:

  • Game-specific profiles I had meticulously set up
  • Custom RGB lighting effects created in Chroma Studio
  • Other personalized usage settings that I used regularly

These profiles and settings were essential for my workflow and gaming experience, and now I’m stuck having to recreate everything from scratch, which is incredibly frustrating.

Has anyone else faced this issue? If so, is there a way to recover lost profiles and settings? Or perhaps any advice on how to back them up to avoid similar problems in the future?

I’d really appreciate any help or tips! Thanks in advance. 🙏

I also had this issue and worse I reset up a basic profile only to have it reset and disappear within 5 minutes. My sensitivity is shot and not able to be adjusted as well. Came to add on in hopes to find workarounds.

i have the same problem. profiles changing bindings or disables keys.

i just send my new 35k mouse back because the scroll wheel dident work.

and they send me a video where it worked. so i think that its synapse that's doing it.

iit just fecket my setting up now (again) after i tried to get the d pad working in poe2.

best way so far is to make your profiles. duplicate them and use the duplicated ones.

when things go south, delete the dups and duplicate from the originals again.

so never use the main for other than duplicate

Same issue. Best way is to stay in Synapse 3.

Actually had this happen to me as well but I FOUND A FIX

Go into 1 of your device pages then in the top right hand corner of the window you will see a little button that almost looks like 2 windows and its a “Synapse 3 profile migration” button where you can migrate all your old profiles to Synapse 4 and this worked for me

works, thx

Hey all,
After updating to Synapse 4 and seeing the Chroma Studio split, I lost all my custom profiles and settings — lighting, macros, everything. 😓

I checked the cloud sync, re-logged into my Razer account, and even tried importing old backups, but nothing seems to restore them.

Has anyone else experienced this after the latest update? Any workaround to recover profiles or at least avoid this in future updates?

This is especially frustrating because I rely on custom lighting setups for my workspace — I run a design consultancy 🙂 and my peripherals are part of my client presentation environment.

Any help would be appreciated!

This person deserves a reward for sharing this knowledge. Totally saved us all here.

SRSLY RAZOR, you couldn’t make this whole process less weird and hard to figure out even if you wanted to. Makes some serious detective skills to find this workaround, when ideally A HUGE POP-UP SHOULD APPEAR with the instructions on how to do this whole profile transfer ruckus the moment you install the new Synapse version.

Thank you! For some reason I couldn’t create a new profile when the update blew the one I had away. Tried your fix and it worked, again, Thank you.😀

How can you make an update for a software and not IMPORTANT THE SETTING FROM THE GET GO.

why split the applications..

im furious and its great someone found the solution but really… REALLY we have to figure out this ourselves… why would we not want our profiles imported straight away….

It worked, except for the part where my Chroma profile did not work at all and is just completely blank/dark.

I found the migration tool by checking some posts. They should make that automated.

I'm still having issues where it can't or won't import all my old light setups. Some it did import don't work as they should.

I cant import old exported light setups. This synapse I just bad software development, to me at least. They should make migration between version smooth and make it possible for everything to migrate.

Say I need to recreate everything. I can't run the two versions side by side, since synapse 4 will remove synapse 3. It's really bad, redoing everything

This was perfect. Thank you for letting us know. Why the heck they didn’t highlight this in the install beats me.

Do others also see issue where a lot of profiles can't be migrated?

I own a blackwidow pro v3 wireless and just got 7 migrated and then a couple of those aren't even working properly. Most of the lights setups I had, don't even show up. They were nothing special, just different layers of effects.

Its impossible to pompoen met the exact issue since we can't run the 2 apps side by side because synapse 3 gets deletesld when upgrading. Also switching versions is tedious and a long peocess

Ran into this after being told in the latest update that support was ending for Synapse 3 in January, with all kinds of reassurances during the upgrade process that it would be “Faster!” (it took forever and required three reboots to install) “Your profiles will be migrated!” (I had to find this post to pretend to get them back).  I’m finally fully on Synapse 4, sans Cortex which appears to be getting deprecated.  Not that it matters, the separated Chroma app doesn’t work.  My KB and mouse are dark as soon as it detects their presence.  Changing colors on the mouse mat doesn’t do anything, and I’m unable to do any more than view the migrated profiles.  This has to be one of the worst upgrade experiences I’ve seen in recent years, and definitely the worst product launch by Razor I’ve seen.  8 months after the initial report, and it doesn’t appear anything has been done to improve it.

@Aurthur760

I had about same experience. It's horrible. Migration tool didn't show and through some reading I found, you needed to use the tool. It didn't even migrate half of my light setups and those that did, half of them work.

I reverted back to synapse 3.

Ps deprecated, doesn't mean it won't work. It only means, in normal development, it looses support. It's end of life but still should keep working

I find their upgrading process really bad. How can you upgrade and not make sure everything gets migrated.
