New Razer Blade 15 fan noise at idle

Hi, just received my razer blade 15(2020) two days ago, and for the past two days the fan has been making loud noise(spins at high speed) when I'm simply just browsing the internet (nothing else running in the background, checked my task manager millions of times). It seems like a defect to me but I'm not 100% sure since it's my first razer laptop. does anyone have any solution to it or should I return it and get a new one?

Hey, I have had 2 devices with the same problem (blade 15 base 2019 rtx2060). First one I returned because of performance issues and the second one works fine however i have this weird bending on my screen and im trying to return that one also since I think it's a defect. I'm not sure if it is a defect or not having the fans rev up randomly for 2 mins then going off, but ill watch this thread incase someone from the support team replies. Also you might get some luck closing synapse (that worked with my first device but doesn't make a difference with the one im using currently for some reason).

Hi everyone! Thanks for posting your Razer Blade's concern here. Please perform the following and see if it helps:

a. Tweak the fan settings under the Razer Synapse 3.0's performance tab.
b. You can also try to reduce system load by closing background programs that you are not using. Make sure to save any unsaved work in those programs.
c. Close any processes that may be slowing your system. Just note that some processes may be essential to your system running smoothly and closing them may make your system unstable. We advise you to research this. Please check the steps below:

• Right-clicking your Start button and selecting “Task Manager”.
• Under the “Processes” tab, you may close any processes and look them up on the internet for more information. To close that process, right-click then select “End task”.

Should the above steps did not resolve the issue, consider performing a system recovery. Else, you can submit a case by clicking this link or send me a PM.

I had this problem, as I have recently bought the Razor 15 laptop. It is also my first Razor, after reading many good reviews about it.

However, I found that it was spinning loudly whilst sitting idle. Very frustrating and it didn't seem right. I tried changing the speed in the settings, but I wasn't using any programs at all to cause this problem.

However, I found that if you are using the HDMI port to connect to an external monitor, this leads partially to this problem. I switched to the USB C port and connected a multi-connector device and then the HDMI through that to the monitor. I have found this lessens the noise and frequency of the spins. The noise or the spins are not completely gone, but I found found that where the HDMI port sits, it must be closer to one of the boards (GPU?), which causes the fan to increase for that reason as it thinks it is being used to process. The noise is halved now since I switched to the USB C port on the opposite side.

Let me know if this works. Razor support - let me know if this is what your fix is as well?
I got my laptop around the 1st of July i believe, I need this laptop for college and razer being one of my favourite brands i bought the new razer blade 15 2060 base model. Ever since i got it though, fans are extremely loud on google or at homepage, i haven't even opened any games yet because it is just too loud. the battery also dies within an hour and a half when most people it can last up to 8 hours, but no mine dies at my desktop in an hour and a half.

i cant lower fan speed in synapse because the tab just isn't there, and on top of that i cant return it because i have had this laptop for a month now. i didn't want to return it then because i figured the battery just needed a couple of cycles. this is just ridiculous and i have no clue what to do. college starts in two weeks and right now i have a brand new laptop that wont make it a quarter through the day, as-well as annoying the shit out of everyone because of the rocket ship fans.

If anyone can help me please reply to this. i don't want to have a 3000$ laptop that runs worse than someones 1000$ laptop.

Hey there! Thanks for posting your observation/findings regarding the fan noise. Have you submitted a case? If you haven't, please send me a PM so I can assist you in creating one while including your post.

Hello @GarthGirvan. Sorry to hear about your laptop's concern. Have you performed my suggested steps above? Should the issue persists, please submit a case to or send me a PM as well. Let's continue from there.

Just want to share my experience. Fans noise on idle beside because of ports connection depends also on the temperatures, regardless running on nvidia gpu may wake the dgpu fan, and on intel cpu cpu Fans on some temperatures point will kick in on some level base on Razer bios, usually starts somewhere on 50ish. HDMI and display port on most laptops connected directly to dedicated gpu, on Blade it’s Nvidia, so on this connection dgpu would kick in instead intel iGPU, you can check on task manager performance tab which gpu your port is using, this connection is known louder than usb C which id directly connected to iGPU, means the Monitor would be controlled by CPU but it doesn’t mean you can’t gaming since usb C on physX would be recognized as display port connection.
At least we’ve still option to reduce fans noise and changing gpu connection on external monitor unlike MacBook Pro 16 that is literally run always on dedicated gpu once connected to external monitor that make it runs always hot (not sure if they addressed it already).

Sorry to hear that but unfortunately base model due some extra ports doesn’t have a big battery capacity, i think it’s 65Wh compared to advanced 80Wh, so it’s impossible to get 8 hours especially on this optimus laptops category which intel and nvidia software might bug each other. With some tweak and right drivers version you should be able getting like 4 to 5 hours light usage, keep in mind to not let nvidia gpu work and discharging rate (per HWinfo64 sensor) should be under 15W, I think with not 2 hours it consume like 30 watt plus, disabling also cloud services and use power efficient browser might help.
I'm watching this thread too. Also wondering if anyone's had the same issue on the Blade Pro 17" or if there's a way to have fans completely off/silent during idling/casual tasks? Thanks
Same problem with my 2020 Advanced 4k. Thinking about returning it. A over 3000€ machine should be quiet when idle.
The fans on mine are always spinning when charging via USB-C. I played with the synapse performance modes as well as the windows power saving modes. Nothing changes.
