Razer Basilisk V3 Stopped Working (Completely)

Yet again another failure from Razer… endless problems continue.

My Basilisk V3 wired mouse suddenly stopped working, my laptop can’t see the device, synapse can’t see it, device manager can’t see it, firmware updater can’t see it… Basically there is no electricity power it receives when i plug it in. I didn’t drop my mice or something, it was perfectly fine yesterday night.

I tried every method you can think of, sleep mode PC fix, uninstalling usb drivers, updates, re installing synapse, everything. It just feels like my mouse is dead on the inside for no reason.

When i first bought it, without any drivers or synapse, it would still get the RGB light going on and my PC would detect a new device. But now, there is no power inside my mouse. No light.

Nothing happens when i plug it in or out, it just looks DEAD. And yes i tried different usb ports but not a different PC yet.

How am i gonna fix this?

I’m facing a similar issue. I have a razer basilisk V3 and it completely stopped working. Once I’ve plugged it it just starts blinking in its default light, and it continues to connect and disconnect. It’s DEFINITELY not my PC or any of my hardware, because the same issue is happening to my brother, miles away with a different setup, yet is facing the same mouse issue, blinking and not working. It absolutely sucks cause I don’t have a spare mouse and yet there is no way to make it work despite all troubleshoots.

Hey Dale,

If you haven’t already, check out the step by step guide that I posted. If you’ve already done so, you could try to do a fresh clean install of Windows (if that’s the OS you’re using...though no one should even have to go through that much trouble!). If the Razer Septic software functions in the same manner as malware, then reinstalling your OS might grant access back to your USB ports as well as your entire PC! Though, nothing is for sure… If your mouse acts as though it’s completely lifeless, then there is a faulty component inside… or Synapse may have somehow sent a kill-switch algorithm (accidently/intentionally) to the mouse. I’m only speculating for the time being.

I just ordered a new Basilisk V3 (wired) and a Blackwidow V3 Halo Edition keyboard (they were both on sale). They should arrive on Monday. My intent is to use them as basic peripherals, without installing the Synapse 3 program. Now I’m questioning the hardware build quality of these peripherals… If they’re physically defective, then obviously nothing can be done on our end (the user end) to resolve these issues.

Razer Technicians NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS WHOLE $H*T STORM! I’m going to also speculate that they DO KNOW, and I'm going to further speculate that they’ve used cheap post-pandemic parts to manufacture their devices. This is a terrible trend that I’ve been encountering with ALL electronic devices, over the past couple of years… “Defective”: It’s the latest hotest fashion trend going around.

Note: I just did a clean fresh install of Windows 11 Pro on my gaming PC. That should give me a baseline environment to test the new peripherals when they arrive.

Exact same thing happened to me. I used my computer last night and everything working completely fine, went to sleep and when I woke up my mouse was completely unresponsive except for the red sensor light on the bottom. I did everything you listed and even factory reset my computer while saving apps and reinstalling Windows yet still absolutely no response.

I have pretty similiar issue but with my keyboard.

Last night everything was working fine, no issues.

Today when I woke up my keyboard (ornata v.2) had problem with media keys, none of them was working.

I was thinking it was some issue with windows but I see am not the only person struggling with some problems at recent time.

Hope they will get us some patch for this.

Exact same thing happened to me.

^ Thanks for the input & sharing your experience with us!

At least we all now know, that we’re not the ones who are eff’in up (not to my surprise). These issues are affecting various devices across the board.

Razer needs to get a grip on this runaway train. I’m now afraid to keep the mouse & keyboard that I ordered. Given the track record, I don’t know if I’ll be able to use them as basic peripherals with just the basic Windows drivers.

I bought razer gold card $80 and it was already used

I hate to post and not have anything good or helpful for anyone that has posted so far and has asked for a solution. I unfortunately am here just to add to the horror of being an owner of Razer merchandise. This is embarrassing to admit but in the past two and half years i have bought two headsets (Razer Nari  Ultimate and Razer Kraken Pro) two keyboards (Razer Huntsman V3 Pro and Razer Blackwidow v4 Pro) and both the Razer Basilisk Ultimate and the notorious Razer Basilisk V3 Pro both of the which did the exact same thing that is happening to everyone on this post. Worked one night next day stopped working, no power, no fixes with in Windows 11 did  anything nor did any fix on the Razer software side fix anything. I guess I am stupid for having a mouse and keyboard stop working and having problems with both headsets and still buying more products made by the same company. I like my RGB to be synced and ill admit Razer had the best lighting and software to control it and it got me hooked into buying from them to keep my lights seamlessly connected without any tweaking or  downloading  more software. I have spent almost $1000 with Razer and all i have to show for it is one headset that doesn't stay charged for any reasonable amount of time and has a shotty mic that everyone i am in a game with complains about from time to time and a keyboard that i have to keep buying new cords for and keep having to reset and download the firmware for. I am having to resort to using a Logitech mouse that i have had for five years that still works. It doesnt have rgb lighting and doesnt have any extra buttons but i can depend on it to complete work assignments and not end up dead while i sleep at night. I do have some sort of positive thing to say about the issue or at least about the gentlemens comments about it not being able to handle a system change like a new name for the pc. I agree with this statement because coincidentally i changed my Windows from the home edition to the Pro edition the night before my mouse stopped working so i definitely see a connection there. I am not going to put the blame on any user or Windows either for the issue because we known should have to worry about our mouse that costs $200 to stop working over something simple as that or at least not be able to be fixed easily. I dont know if this is true or not but someone recently told me that Razer had been purchased by another company and if its not the pandemic that caused it to start manufactoring trash and putting its name on it then the company we all used to depend on for quality items has been sold to another company that decided to manufacture crap and put a bow on it for us!  Sorry i didnt have more productive or helpful information to give everyone. Im in the same boat as you all are and I stupidly stayed on it when i noticed a leak  about a year ago but instead bought myself another spot on it. Good luck to everyone that is looking to get their stuff fixed. Warning to anyone that is thinking of buying anything from them in the future! Buyer Beware!

The seller said that i need the package and other stuff with it to send it back, which i don't have. I don't have extra space to collect big item boxes in my house. I am so pissed right now.

Why no one from support haven't write here yet? Why nobody cares? Where is my live chat support from Razer? How am i gonna do my job without a mouse?

Do you think following your steps can work out? Well i actually did those Synapse re- installing things. And it didn't work? This mouse should work without synapse or drivers. What am i gonna do now? Should i try one more time to clean restart or something?

But i tried on 2 different laptops and it didn't work.

Why no one from Razer noticed us or my thread yet? WHERE IS THE SUPPORT? I HATE RAZER SO MUCH.

LMAO It started working again! 😆 Went to kitchen to eat something and when i came back it was alive again!

I think there is a new update button on Synapse too, but dunno if i should update it. LoL.

Jokes aside, my mouse is dead again! It was there and now it is gone! Feels like a Southpark episode. Dunno what can i say.

Last edit: The RGB light came back again but the mouse itself is not working. And the lights usually come after a minute i plug it in. My lights are normal, they change colors normally as before. But Synapse can’t detect the mouse and i can’t use the mouse.

Well at least we now know this is not a physical issue. It must be hardware\ program related. That’s a small relief from my side. But now what are we gonna do? There isn’t any update on my Synapse.

I am gonna start cursing in 14 different languages if no one from offical support team replies to this thread within 8 hours. Countdown has started 🖐🏻. (I guess this is the only way we get their lazy attention.)

WHO THE F*CK PUT SOLVED CAPTION ON MY THREAD. NO, IT IS NOT SOLVED!

The same thing happened to me. My Basilisk v3 all of a sudden STOPPED working, after almost two years, on account of - if it did not itself generate- a BSOD. WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. I tried restarting the PC, nothing. The mouse would simply not work. The RGB lights keep blinking, and there is a physical sound inside the mouse, probably the freewheel spin toggle. I connect it, disconnect it, same thing. I reinstalled Synapse 3, it can’t see it. Stranely enough, I can move the cursor for a split second, at the same interval that it blinks. But oddly, Windows doesn’t seem to see the mouse in device manager, which is bonkers. It seems to be entirely a software issue, right? It probably got stuck inside a loop because of that BSOD, or it might have even caused it… What should I do?!

I was able to fix my Basilisk V3 by first unplugging the Razer, plugging in my backup Logitech MX518, and then uninstalling the Razer Basilisk V3 driver from Device Manager, selecting the box to also uninstall the driver software associated with device.  I then used IObit Uninstaller to completely uninstall Synapse + any leftover files.  I restarted my PC and used the MX518 for about an hour when I decided to try my Razer one last time before buying a replacement… (after about 6 months of use, my serial sticker just peeled off, so I’m sure pushing a warranty claim would be a frivolous endeavor) I plugged in my Razer mouse while the MX518 was also still plugged in.  Windows auto installed the drivers, and BAM it was back to working perfectly.  I left the MX518 plugged in for a while as well, because initially after updating the firmware on the basilisk just one day prior, it worked fine for about 5 or 6 hours without issue… I did not immediately install synapse and initially had no intentions of doing so…

The next day when I continued using the Razer, with the Logi still plugged in, it kept working fine.  I eventually unplugged the Logi and I eventually downloaded/installed Synapse again….Everything has been working just fine ever since.  Maybe this will help some of ya’ll, I sure hope so...

Hi, did you solve the issue? Mine is completely the same

@SunsetOrangetalkfirst931

We have yet to solve anything (as far as technical troubleshooting goes). Dale PM’d me because he was no longer allowed to post publicly, but he was still able to send direct messages to other users (the same also happened to me, until I PM’d a couple of moderators). I’ll admit that I was using unfavorable language, due to my frustration and tech support wasn’t taking these issues seriously. We both had suspected that we were placed under a gag order. Nevertheless, his last message to me was that he was in communication with tech support and they offered to replace his unit. That’s the last that I’ve heard from Dale. So I took it upon my own to keep fighting the good fight.

I have also gone through the RMA process (which is a horror novel that I’m currently in the process of writing), and I can report that my replacement unit is also behaving in the same exact manner… Just about ALL of the Basilisk V3s are malfunctioning in some way, shape, or form… All of Razer’s peripherals are acting faulty… This forum is full of users asking for aid.

I’m not even going to bother with asking for another RMA because the entire process was grueling, only to be sent another defective unit.

If you look in the following thread by user @anzepintar

 :

^ They reporting an interesting USB connection error.

I’ve noticed, yet again, another bug / glitch. It appears that if a major change to the computer is made, such as renaming the PC, it just can’t take it.

For some reason the Synapse 3 software cannot mediate certain changes to the operating system (Windows 11 Pro), which usually causes your devices not to be detected within Synapse 3. So I renamed my computer back to its original name. Then I restarted my computer and the mouse was completely non-functional (no power / dead). I had to unplug the mouse from the USB port and restart my computer and then plug the mouse back into the same properly functioning USB port, and only then was it detected again.

These ridiculous clumsy inept software conflict errors make Razer products unnecessarily cumbersome to deal with.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

@BuckAhRue  i will try your method tomorrow and see how it goes. And i advise you to not buy anything from Razer. I bought a Blackshark V2 Headset before and it also came faulty. The volume button on the headset causes a big distortion sound when you adjust it.

I contacted support and they couldn't help me. Now i need to return that to the seller and deal with all of that drama.

Anyone know how that goes? Does the seller sends it to nearest Razer service or something? How and who are going to fix it? I bought from a random gaming internet store. Who are going to examine my mouse and fix it?

Oh and i also tried the mouse on a different laptop today and it didn't respond either. I just have a dead mouse at this point. How on earth the Synapse could send a message to my mouse to shut it down or something? Is it even possible?

Honestly, i won't buy anything from Razer ever again. Now i have a dead mice and a distorted headset whenever you adjust volume. Oh and just so you know im a very delicate and sensitive person to my stuff. My items are damage free. I kept them like new.

I don´t know if this is related but i´m also suffering from some weird software issues with the mouse.

It disconnects whenever i lift the mouse up and reconnects when put down. Its not a wire issue, it still happens when i cover the sensor with my finger and don´t move the mouse. Have reinstalled both the mouse and the USB drivers, reset my windows, checked bios. Tried different things that were recommended in other forums. In some USB ports the mouse doesn´t work at all, while the lights are dimly lit on it.

After reinstalling synapse and opening it, the mouse disconnected altogether until i closed all Razer programs.

Another mouse works just fine in the same port.

Might be unrelated but the smart scroll also stopped working. The mechanism stopped grabbing the wheel properly and scroll got way too “Soft”. Probably not an issue with debris because it works fine with smart scroll turned off.

Can anyone recommend a mouse that doesn´t break in a half a year? Cause it seems to be a trend lately. 🙂

Yeah, I think I’m going to find myself something to eat and hopefully my mouse magically fixes itself

Hey Dale,

You had given me hope for a brief moment (false hope, but a small glimmer of light nonetheless) LOL.

So your mouse lights up and then becomes non-responsive? It almost seems as though these mice & keyboards are the latest “Zombie” peripherals from Razer… lol. It’s not a bug...it’s a feature…

I just received my mouse and keyboard delivered from GameStop. they’re still packaged up, and I haven’t unpacked them yet. Before I do, I’m going to call my local GameStop store and ask if I have issues with the peripherals, then would I be able to return them? If they say “Yes”, then I’ll unbox them and see how they fair. If I can’t return them after they’ve been opened, then I’m going to leave them packaged up and return them for a refund. Wish me luck.

I’ll follow your advice:

  1. Go to the kitchen
  2. Prepare a meal (I’ll make pizza, just to be on the safe side lol)
  3. plug in the mouse & keyboard
  4. look for lights
  5. go toward the light
  6. don’t get bit by the undead Zombie peripherals

Wish me luck!

Another update. My mouse is alive!! It is risen from the firey pits of hell. LOL.

I repaired the Synapse and also modified it from Apps and Features option on my Windows. It didn’t solve the issue when i first did it. I went to swimming in the sea. When i came back and opened my laptop, it recognized my mouse as a device and now it is back to normal.

Solution: Go swimming in the sea.  Then come back, take a hot shower and restart your PC.

If you don’t have accsess to this swimming feature, you need to buy a new summerhouse in order for your Razer products to work! It is a win win situation!

I spoke with a GameStop employee and his response / solution was to go back to Windows 10. Then his problems were solved. I do despise Windows 11 (in my opinion, it is a Franken-zombified OS! I wish I could return back to Windows 7 Pro!).

I would, however all of my Windows 10 licenses have been “upgrade” to Windows 11. So I’m unable to try that method.

Here’s another idea, assuming that the mouse is perfectly fine...(I know right) Let’s rule out any Windows OS Shenanigans…

Do you know how to create a bootable Linux media via the USB method? Don’t install Linux, but rather see if the mouse is useable in a Linux based environment. If it works in Linux, then it is most likely a driver/software conflict with Windows vs Razer.

If this does not work, then unfortunately, there could be a stubborn profile saved internally (within the mouse / keyboard) that may still cause the same turmoil.

Same problem with Basilisk V3 , it’s clear a hardware problem so same problem on other pc too. It’s clear that quatlity is too poor

I’m finally able to make posts again…

try my updated guide here: Basilisk V3 & Blackwidow V3

I’ve noticed that if you only install the bare minimum requirements in Synapse 3, then there isn’t as many issues.

NOTE: This is not a fix, it’s a temporary work-around.
