Razer Kiyo made a noise and stopped working mid-use | Razer Insider

I’d been using my Kiyo without issue for a long time. One time I was in a video call and it made a weird grinding noise and then went totally out of focus. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, and it reported available to my computer again, but once I selected it the ring light came on at a kind of pulse-y half brightness and then it  disappears from the cameras list. I tried letting it sit unplugged for a week and the problem still persists. Tried multiple computers, ports, etc.

Normally my Razer accessories last forever. Is there anything I can do to get this functioning again?

This has just happened to me too in the middle of a work meeting. Really disappointed after spending £55 on a camera - thought I could trust a brand like Razer but I guess not ..

Literally just happened to me during a video interview. Not exactly an ideal situation.

Damn I should have found this thread earlier. Mine died within 12hours of purchase.

The same here. I already updated to the last Firmware version without success. Last Razer product for sure, it looks like planned obsolescence.

Mine died yesterday, tried it on multiple usb ports and devices, same thing everywhere 😕 Still no solution anywhere. Definitely feels programmed as I think it’s 2021/22 series… Shame.

I have the exact same problem.

First it stopped working about 20 minutes into my video call. Then it was 15…. 10… Now it happens the moment I open an app that runs it. The light halo starts flickering and device stops running, it disappears from the device manager. but the light remains on.

I’ve had mine for 4 months. Stopped mid-way through a call with the same sounds as experienced by others. I’m sure the excellent customer service that told me to buy a replacement part from China on eBay for my headphones will be quick to assist with the same quality service. 😂

I read someone got a replacement since her cam was still in warranty. You should try to do the same.

I can be added to the list, it happened to me just before a Pro appointment ...

I didn’t see a flashing but otherwise the exact same sound and it’s now black

This just happened to me last week. Tried it with multiple computers but I am out of warranty so no luck. I won’t be buying any streaming stuff from Razer again.

Happened to me a few days ago, exactly the same issue. After contacting Razer they tell me that I’m just out of waranty. I was thinking about planned obsolescence but I see that there are cases in brand new products, so I think that the quality of the camera is really bad… The amount of affected is amazing and we should make some noise to the product to be replaced.

I had the same issue today and ofc the warrenty exspired… razor you either intended this or should fix this as there are to many people with this to just be a bug!! Please do somthing 10 months on from first post and nothing!!

This just happened to me as well the other day. Was in the middle of a Zoom call with it and it died. Replugged it into various USB slots but no luck. The light just stays on the ring but the actual camera doesn’t work. Heard sounds too coming from it like others mentioned.

I barely even used this camera in the few years I’ve owned it now, which is what is surprising to me. I probably have used it less than 20 times.

Same thing happened to me today. Just adding this here, not really hoping for razer to do anything, they really seem like that kind of company.

This literally just happened to me right in the middle of using it. The light started flashing, heard a clicking noise and the camera froze and it’s unable to be used now.

Same with me. Working normally, started buzzing and now not working.

Updated fw from 2.3.0 to 2.3.2 but still not working.

The mic is working and can record and playback so that is ok.

Issue is with the ring/camera.

I have 3 of these RZ19 and one has this issue.

My Kiyo also just died in the same way, mid way through a meeting. Same noise and experience as everyone else has listed here. Tried all of the things suggested with no luck. I was lucky to have an old camera I could use to continue working.

same thing happened to mine bought 2 years ago, seldom used. The camera light indicator (not the ring light) started flickering and making a weird noise, when i unplugged then plugged it, it doesn’t work anymore.

Found this thread in hopes for a fix, seems like I too am someone with a busted Kiyo camera. ring light started flickering and making a noise, then totally turned off. I thought a driver update would fix it but I have tried updating drivers and uninstalling synapse and reinstalling but the camera no longer appears at all in the system device settings or in razer synapse. Will have to get a new webcam and wont be getting a Razer one thats for sure.

Joining the ranks of everyone else having this issue- this camera was a Christmas present and lasted less than 9 months. I have a Razer keyboard, mouse, and headset that haven’t had any issues like this so I’m a bit surprised. Definitely seems recall worthy!

And it happened to my camera as well, that grinding noise is awful...it's clear that Razer should issue a statement and recall program considering how many people are affected. What can we do about it? Should we go on social media?

Literally just happened to me today. Wow -- didn’t realize this was as widespread of an issue as it is.

Add me to the list. The camera freaked out on me while on a call, the buzzing noise and flickering light and the device dissapeared from Windows. I was able to get it to work again by dialing back the light ring after unplugging and plugging back in. When I turn the light back up to full it fails again and I have to start over. Surprising that there are this many instances of failure (way more than just this group that was willing to comment I’m sure.) Razer should do something. I’m certainly not buying again or recommending their products to anyone if they don’t.

Just happened mid OBS stream. Abunch of moving noise like it was stuck autofocusing, and the picture was froze. tried unplugging and plugging in a gain to no avail. Tried updating firmware to no avail. Razer should do a swap to anyone with or with a warranty at this point.
