Synapse 3 does not recognize devices following an update. Solved! | Razer Insider

Hey folks, I wanted to share this since I couldn't find this solution anywhere else, and it certainly isn't obvious.

I'm running the 20H2 Windows 10 build. After a recent Synapse 3 update, the software no longer recognized my Tartarus V2. The HID device drivers were loaded and up-to-date. I tried reinstalling them anyway, with no change. The device itself was fine. Opening notepad, and pressing a few keys on my Tartarus proved that the key presses were still being recognized by Windows, although only with the default key mapping. Following the instructions for a complete uninstall and reinstall of the Synapse 3 software had no effect, but also reported no errors.

Ironically, I was also having trouble with a recent Origin launcher update reporting an error that it was unable to connect to the internet (after having just downloaded and installed said update from the internet.) So I had been uninstalling and reinstalling that launcher with no luck either.

I checked antivirus, disabling Kaspersky and Windows Defender (which will go active the moment you disable a third-party antivirus.) No effect.

One thing that did catch my attention is that several websites I wouldn't expect to have certificate errors were being blocked in my web browser due to expired certificates. That led me to a link describing how to force updates to your root certificate store. https://support.kaspersky.com/13727 If the link has moved, it's also the top result if you search for for "kaspersky root certificate".

That cleared up my Origin launcher problems immediately. Synapse 3 still had to be completely uninstalled and reinstalled, but after that it also worked and recognizes my Tartarus V2 again.

Hopefully this will be of use to someone and save them from the pain and suffering I just went through. :wink_:
