I am considering of buying Razer Blade 15 i7-8750H and Razer Core X with RTX 2080. I can't find any benchmarks with this combo as every test seem to be made with Razer Blade Stealth or some other ultrabook. I would like to know how much better i7-8750H is compared to ultrabook cpu's.

I don’t have Core x but the result should be same with core v2. Cpu performance is a lot better than ultrabook, there’s bottleneck but a lot less, other things to note that since 8750H comes with dgpu and on egpu setting it’s off that make more cooling head room inside the laptop there’s huge cpu temperature improvement means you can max OC your gpu inside the core unlike on dGPU which may burn the cpu:smile_:, i attached as well that AC Odyssey one hour gaming play dGPU vs eGPU. The advantage from ultrabook cpu is that TB3 data transfer is directly to cpu unlike H/HQ cpu that goes to pch controller first that may reduce a bit graphics performance but it’s covered by physical (cpu) performance.

Thank You very much. I'm still surprised that even with RTX 2080 it still quite could not get Tomb Raider to 4k 60 fps.

Yes on highest taa ryzen 2700x rtx2080 Desktop can’t even reach 50fps 4K on SoTR benchmark, should lowering the setting. But on gameplay it should hitting 60, but it depends on scenes and areas, especially in town both SoTR and AC Oddysey struggle even 2080ti.

Oh dang, thought that was Rise not Shadow of Tomb Raider. So that benchmark is actually close to desktop 2080 stats. Do you notice any frame drops or latency due to Thunderbolt restrictions or does gaming feel just like with a desktop?

Of course there’s TB3 bandwidth limitation and as mentioned above laptops cpu bottleneck, Desktop will always performs better since most of them runs PCIe3x16 Lanes gpu vs TB3 max bandwidth PCIe3x4 lanes, but in real gaming FPS it doesn’t translate to 4 times FPS, it depends on the games, resolution etc. Lower resolution like 1080p is bad for egpu setting, on higher 1440p or 4K the gap with desktop would be closer, I noticed even similar FPS on some titles like Battlefront 2 at 4K, other titles I forgot now. On rise of Tomb Raider 60fps stable maxed 4K I got with 1080ti core which is around similar raw performance with 2080. Note as well there’s some titles that effected big by TB3 bandwidth like AC Franchises, Forza Horizon 4 so far I experienced, such titles and esports titles that needs 100fps like OW, CSGo maybe pubg (sometimes I play 4K 60fps with Core), I prefer playing with Blade 15 dgpu for smoother gaming experience.

Well I think I will wait couple of years to see where does eGPUs go. I dont mind the tinkering but at the end I want smooth experience.
