The palm rests on my RB16 really get hot after just ten minutes of gameplay.  The left side is 42 degrees Celsius.  GPU was running at about 142 watts.

If I compare this temperature to what I see from the RB17 with RTX 3080ti that is at least a 30% increase from the RB17.  That is uncomfortable.

Another 16” laptop with RTX 3080 ti (175 watt) from another vendor is keeping the palm rests a very cool 29 degrees Celsius.

What are people seeing with the RB18 with RTX 4090?  I am thinking I should have gotten that as it has the bigger cooling solution with a third fan.  I wish Razer had put a UHD+ panel in that.

I think the problem can be addressed with a more aggressive fan curve.  If I manually push the fans to max then the palm rest surface temperature can be 6 degrees F cooler.  Still over 102+, but not nearly as uncomfortable as when it pushes 110F (anything over 105 is just too hot and 105 should not be the norm at 15 minutes of gaming).  Of course, manually setting the fans to max at all times is not really a solution as that means it is way too loud at all times.

I would be happy to try a more aggressive fan curve for you guys.

I too suffer the palm rest getting super hot, to the point my wrists are red after only a half hour of Apex . Razer blade 16 4090

Hey ioxrogue and easytruckBeauBlue589! Sorry to hear about your ongoing concern with the laptop’s temp. Are you using the Razer Blade 16 or 18? Please check if your graphics card drivers are up to date:

• For Intel - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28425/Intel-Driver-Support-Assistant

• For NVIDIA - https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us

Otherwise, please send me a photo of your laptop’s BIOS main tabMSinfoSynapse 3.0 logs, and a screenshot of the Nvidia and Intel Driver versions. Press Windows+R on your keyboard. Type DXDIAG into the run command text box. Save the files to any online hosting site, then paste its accessible link in your PM so I can submit a case and help our Support Teams investigation. Thanks for your cooperation.

I have updated everything, and its not as uncomfortable when the fans are on boost. BiOS is also updated. Thanks for responding, but its not such an issue when fan is on boost during gaming.

Alrighty! Should you have other concerns or inquiries, you can submit a case or send me a PM so I can help you initiate a support ticket. Thanks for your cooperation.

It's concerning to hear that the palm rests on your RB16 become extremely hot after just ten minutes of gameplay, with the left side reaching 42 degrees Celsius. Additionally, it seems that the GPU is running at around 142 watts, which is quite high. Comparing this temperature to the RB17 with RTX 3080ti, it appears that there's at least a 30% increase in temperature, which is certainly uncomfortable.

You mentioned that another 16" laptop with RTX 3080 ti (175 watt) from a different vendor is keeping the palm rests at a very cool 29 degrees Celsius, which is quite impressive. Have you considered reaching out to Razer's customer support to report the heating issue and see if they have any solutions?

As for the RB18 with RTX 4090, it's hard to say what people are experiencing with it since it's a relatively new product. However, it's worth noting that the RB18 has a bigger cooling solution with a third fan, which could potentially help with the heating issue you're experiencing. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, it doesn't come with a UHD+ panel, which may be a downside for some users.

Some reviewers said it’s not hot as blade 16 and I think so too since it has additional fan on that area so they preferred the bigger one if you’re often using the internal keyboard for gaming on long period.

I don’t have blade 16, just assuming. Right under the trackpad area is where the battery is located, so while charging it might produce more heat, maybe try to cap battery to 80% and if it’s stop charging try to check surface temperature while gaming again.

I can't speak to the RB18 with RTX 4090 specifically, it's worth noting that Razer tends to be pretty good about optimizing their cooling solutions across their product line. It's possible that the RB18 would provide better thermal performance, especially with the additional third fan you mentioned.

That being said, have you considered any external cooling solutions? Sometimes a simple laptop cooling pad can make a big difference in keeping temperatures under control. Additionally, it might be worth reaching out to Razer's support team to see if they have any specific advice or troubleshooting steps that could help improve your thermal performance.

I had the same problem with my Razer laptop I bought a few weeks ago (Blade 17 3070ti, 2022 UHD model). The left palm rest area was so hot that I had to use an external keyboard all the time… In comparison, the right hand rest area is not even warm.

I too just purchases a Blade 16 with the 4090 and with nothing open on the “Balanced” setting, HWInfo is reporting my “CPU package” temps to be between 78-82C and has spiked to just over 100C. I’m really confused because this is before I even install a game to play. I’ve never had this laptop on with the fans off - or silent that I can’t hear them. The palmrest isn’t hot, but the bottom center of the laptop is so hot that I can’t hold my hand on it. I’m not sure what to do?

Toasty, but this is how the things are. Aluminium is rather good thermal conductor and it transfers processors temperature to chassis rather easily.
If you use boost CPU settings it will push it to the max and 100+ celsius spikes are in Intel CPU thermal design, and Razer laptop design has only back vents for hot air exhaust. Only solution for lower temperatures is to use balanced settings and undervolt CPU and GPU, also laptop stand could lower perceived temperature  few degrees. I have 2022 17 and at first it was strange, but later on ~40 degrees Celsius on touch was not that much uncomfortable.

For those wondering why

On The razer blade 16 2023 the SSD drives are on the right hand palm rest, someone at razer decided to skimp on space, and forgot new SSDs when thoroughly abused pump out almost as much heat as old processors did (like when gaming using huge game files on highly fragmented disks (yes fragmentation affects SSDs, more fragments = more IOPs = more heat)

The 2 drives are  basically single sided because they left absolutely no extra space for anything not even ventilation, the bottom drive transfers head via a large metal plate to the side and up a 2cm wide x 1cm high thermal pad to the chassis, this same plate is LITERALLY sandwiched between the C and D drives, the D drive has direct access to the chassis via a large heat sink (so make sure your games are installed on the D drive) but the pad doesn't really fit properly, after some heavy use if you remove the cover you can see only some of the chips get proper cooling, the controller and the last chip barely touch the chassis transfer pad.

To fix this, I had to do several things:
1: add a super slim sliver of hard drive silicone padding to make up for the spacing on the D drive, this helped slightly,

2: “bulk up/shore up” the  C drive column pad with as much padding on the sides of it as you can fit on to the metal plate, I managed to add about 50% more padding heat transfer space which directly translated into a cooler drive

3: Defrag the SSD, doesn't need to be all consolidated just don't have the files in a million pieces,  so the number of system/SSD controller IOPS, drive queues and consequently the random read/write individual operations (which are the ones that generate the most heat vs contiguous files) are kept at a minimum, just defragging your drive can lower the IOPS by 20-30% and that's linearly related to the amount of heat the disk puts out, everyone insists “don't defrag your SSD! it will lower its life!” before I did this I lost many SSDs to overheating nand way before wearing out, defragging helped fix this problem some what, its at least 2-3c cooler after a defrag on heavily fragmented drives, if you don't believe me try it yourself.

4: Swap the drives for “cooler” drives, some drives are cooler than others, meaning they don't put out as much heat as other drives, on this thing you need cool drives over fast drives, faster drives = more heat = premature drive death, the magical spec you are looking for is watts, the lower wattage a drive uses the lower the heat output, you need to search for the fastest single sided drives you can find that have the lowest wattage/voltage requirement, I’m a Samsung/Kingston guy myself but I have to admit when I’m beat, Crucial put out these new super high density nand chips, they are single sided 4TB drives ( CT4000P3PSSD8 ), that fit the razer blade, the only ones in fact, these new super high density drives are much more energy efficient than old nands, they put out ½ as much heat doing the same operation at the same speed, so they definitely helped,

Doing these 4 things I went from 50c+ heat on the right hand rest (and this is with the razer OEM stand mind you) to 32-38c heat, (SSDs went from 68c to 48c respectively while gaming), my battery is probably on its knees now thanking me for saving its life.

Sorry for the long post but I hope this helped some, I know I did the upgrades and helped fix a ton of problems with hard drive heat.

If you need Software to view your drive temps, you can use CrystalDiskInfo for quick glances or Hard Disk Sentinel for permanent drive monitoring, after loosing 2 SSDs to temp problems on my old Dell G15 I never have any of my computers on without that thing running, its been a godsend,

I had replaced my Razer Blade 16 UHD 4090 with the Razer Blasé 18 4090 because the 16 was so incredibly hot and therefore uncomfortable to use (the lack of a single dimming zone was also an issue).

I absolutely love the RB 18 and it is very comfortable to game on.  But, I have been looking forward to a UHD display for it.  Though announced, it still seems as if it will be a long while before it comes out.

Now that the 2024 RB 16 has the single dimming zone option I am thinking of trying it again.  But if it is still as hot I would be wasting my time.  H

Has anything changed in the 2024 RB 16 that would make the palm wrests and WSAD keys cooler?
