Use CRU (https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU) to manually add a custom refresh rate when in optimus mode. Works great! They software lock out other refresh rates for some odd reason.

I chose 120hz for battery life.

the Intel GPU works fine even at 300hz, but can't do 360hz due to eDP limitations though;) How do you think the 2020 Razer ADV worked cause they had 300hz enabled via optimus..

although can you really tell the difference between 300 and 360. hmm

Have you been able to solve this problem yet? I have the same model and I'm having the same issue.

  4. Advanced optimus is trash.

It has an automatic select mode which is meant to switch between igpu and dgpu its working if you select it load games etc. BUT if you unplug the laptop is switches to optimus mode then if you shutdown or restart the laptop whilst on battery it stays stuck in optimus mode until you go back into nvidia control panel and select automatic select mode again.

if it actually went back to the default advanced optimus would be ok but at the moment its trash i would just leave it on optimus mode and then select dgpu mode when i want to play a game which seems silly on a £2749 laptop.

Hi if you don't mind can you walkthrough the steps for this? I ran CRU and edited the detailed resolution section to change the refresh rate to 120hz from 60hz, but it wont show in windows settings to change the refresh rate (all I see is 60hz).

    Thanks.

Edit: I restarted my laptop and it came with a black screen. Connected it to my monitor to find that my laptop screen is at 120hz but not working :slightly_sad: had to change it back to 60hz via CRU to get it to come back on.

Sir, you are a god among men. This worked for my qhd 240hz Blade 15 Advanced. At first, ran into the problem from poster above. Then plugged the laptop in, performed a restart and my custom options now appear for 120/144hz under refresh rate / shrug. I did change the settings under both detailed and the first menu (blanking on what it was titled), so maybe that is Breehzy's problem?

Happy to hear that it is working for you :) I tried plugging in the charger and restarting but still black screen for me. Only thing I could do is connect HDMI to monitor and reset the settings back to 60hz to get it to work again. Can you kindly check the image and let me know if there is anything else I should be changing? The only field I edited is the refresh rate at the bottom. For reference I have blade 17 pro rtx3060 165hz QHD.

    Thanks.

Try choosing regular LCD instead of manual.

Attachment below is what it looks like for me. Couldn't get it to work last night either, but connected to power and external monitor, did a restart this AM, and now I am able to select these options for my monitor while on battery / running optimus w/ IGPU

    Hi,

Thank you and halo so much for your help!! I went into CRU and as you can see in my last image I had a configuration for 120hz. This would always result as a black screen on my razer screen. Seeing your image gave me the idea of trying different Hz. After trial and error I have determined that 105hz is the maximum I can get (110Hz would give me a black screen) on my Razer screen with no monitor connected while running on the igpu! Thanks again for your help. I believe this limitation may be because I have the rtx3060 and a 165hz screen as opposed to the 240hz that Dugbam has.

Anyways I'm happy! Now when I don't have an external monitor I can browse the internet while on Nvidia Optimus and jump into a game and get 105hz as opposed to the 60hz I was getting before with optimums enabled. Obviously I can go into Razer Synpase and select dedicated GPU mode to get 165HZ but its a hassle to restart and switch between the two. This way I can conserve battery life (when I'm not gaming) and enjoy a 105HZ for both gaming and normal use.

    Thanks again!

Got mine (QHD/3070), CRU „hack“ works fine.

Only thing annoying me so much I may be returning it, is the very high pitch fan noise. It’s very very high pitch. Not sure if it’s only my unit or all of them sound like that. May be try another one and hope it’s not so high pitch fan noise?

Otherwise like the QHD/3070 with advanced optimus (with CRU „hack“) very much, but I think I can’t stand the high pitch noise.

Luckily I don't have the high-pitch noise but its not uncommon, I have seen a lot of users reporting it. I found this fix on the Razer Reddit:

Hmm, not sure if I have to or want to mod a laptop this pricerange in this kind of way to not scream at me, but thanks for the info.

Have already opened the blade and with it on the side without the bottom lid attached there is no high pitched noise with basically means it’s because of there is something wrong with the ventilation sucking in air through the bottom lid. Again, should not be a problem in this price category and for sure not a problem which should or have to be fixed by the consumer...

At this point it is pure lottery if you get a unit with the ventilation working correctly or not, which is very sad. There even is very poor availability (at least here in Germany), so you don’t just can send them back until you get a good one since there are out of stock everywhere...

Just got my 15" Advance RTX 3080 QHD. All good except the throttling issue which seems to continue to prevail with Razer. I see two modes in Synapse, Balanced and Performance and this is while plugged in. With Balance i could play well overall, without an F18 in my room (loud fans). When I go to performance the jets start, which I assume is normal to deal with boost. My issue or rather question, what do you quys/gals get better FPS with?

I'm unable to undervolt or even mess with the turbo clocks using throttlestop, quite honestly i don't want to have to be tweaking so much for an hour of gaming. I just want plug in, play and get the most out of my investment.

I did the whole drop max CPU to 99%, played with the performance profile boost settings... seems that after 30-45 mins of gaming the CPU is just too hot. Laptop is on a stand and good ambient temps.

Performance difference between balanced isn’t worth the noise (jet). You gain 5% to may be 10% but have to deal with the F18 as well. 55FPS or 60FPS, 100FPS or 110FPS... for me it’s not worth the noise, I stay balanced all the time.

Thing is, the fan profile is way to aggressive in performance, laptop runs even cooler with the performance setting then in balanced.

Appreciate the input. I'll probably stick with balanced and call it a day. I ran two quick benchmarks with intel XTU between balanced and performance yielding a 400-500 point difference but between a boost-less performance mode and balanced, the difference was negligible and ran much cooler.

If I run performance with full boost then thermal throttling happens more often than I'd like.

Sir, I owe you more than one beer. You helped me turn this laptop from a turd to my dream laptop. The default 60hz limitation was making it so that I didn't want to use the laptop anymore and even considered selling it. Now I'm in love with it. Running it at 120hz on Optimus and runs like butter. I even removed the option to run it at 60hz altogether.
