Question

Blackwidow pro v4 colors won't change

Userlevel 1

Was working fine, then color on keyboard changed to solid blue, synapse will not change the color. I also have razer basilisk and mouse pad. The colors change on them fine. I already deleted synapse and all the hidden folders and then reinstalled to no avail, as the keyboard is only 2 weeks old I returned it and got a new one but the new one is only blue also, tried different usb ports and same result

Soo far  and  out of  the 4  months owning this POS hardware, I  have reinstalled many times now = JUNK

Guys!

I GOT A FIX!

I just figured it out because of the comments about windows update!!!

Here is the fix.

(It worked for me, I can finally customize my chroma on keyboard.)

Go into your Windows Settings.

Go into “Personalization”.

Go into the new “Dynamic Lighting” tab.

Turn OFF “Use Dynamic Lighting on my devices.”

THERE YOU GO!!

I guess that setting ONLY impacts the Blackwidow V4 and not the mouse, firefly, other mousepad, and headset stand.

Let me know please if this works for you guys too, I really hope it does.

I got so excited when I came up with this idea and it actually fixed it.

I have a tech support ticket out to Razer, after several back and forth things I believe they’ve now said it’s some kind of conflict with a Windows update or something.  They are no longer asking questions it’s now in “we are working on it” phase.

30 days later and no fix:)

Windows has a new feature called dynamic lighting, shut it off and all is well. It is in settings under personalization, Finally fixed!

On a whim I searched Razer Insider one more time and found this where Deadpool5786 had the answer.  It works and my keyboard now responds to Synapse lighting settings.

It worked for me on a Huntsman V2 tenkeyless, thank you for the heads up!

ok, lights went dead again after the new update that was released the other day. Build 23521.ni_prerelease.230804-1452. The dynamic lighting is still turned off. Exiting Synapse doesn’t do anything. Unplugging and plugging back in cycles the lights but then nothing. Anyone else having the issue?

EDIT: NM. I was trying the various FN keys on my keyboard and they came back on with the FN + F12 key.

Can confirm. Working here now! I read an article recently about MS putting in some control for third party lighting gear and never even thought about it!

I can’t blame Razer for this.  Microsoft tried to warn me, but I clicked the Windows Preview option anyway because I thought I was cool.  😎

I just installed 23516.1000 and it no longer works again :(

Userlevel 3

I just did a “clean” install of Synapse 3 but I still can’t change the light color and pattern.  Good news is, at least the lights are on so I can read the keys.  As of earlier this week, I started running Windows 22H2 Build 23516.1000 due to a Windows Update.  I may have to wait for MS to get me on the general release.

The latest version of synapse dated July 31 has fixed the problem finally

Interesting.  I’m also running the Windows Preview build.  Is that the true source of this problem?

If it is, I hope rolling back will fix the issue… however, I am concerned that once this “preview build” gets promoted to a public build, it’s going to break all the normal Windows users as well.

Razer has given up on my case.  They said “We can’t reproduce it”. They probably aren’t using Windows Preview builds.  I’ll try to get rid of the preview build tonight and see if that fixes it.  Preview build has been annoying me anyway, takes forever to update when there is an update.

I’ll report back if that fixes it.

Don’t waste your time reinstalling synapse it won’t work, it also takes forever to reinstall

Userlevel 1

You should be able to use go back to a previous version in system recovery without resetting the whole pc, never should have picked the dev insider builds

Userlevel 3

In case it comes up, Windows Version 22H2 23511 does not solve the problem.  I didn’t try a clean reinstall of Synapse after the Windows update today.

I think

I traced my problem down to Windows insider versions. Any update after 22H2, OS Build 23481.1000, Feature Pack 1000.23481.1000.0 does not let Synapse change the keyboard colors, dated 6/15. Not sure if they changed a driver or not

I’m pretty sure that is my problem.  My Windows is Version 22H2 23506.1000.  Synapse changes the colors just fine on my non-preview version of Windows. For some reason I clicked to install the Dev previews but when I did the option to set it back to normal was immediately disabled.  A few weeks ago, I queued it for unenrollment, but I have no idea how long until that happens.  I did this to myself.  I miss Save and Cancel buttons. 😒

@Razer.Zionzedd - could you look at the issue? Thank you ;)

I was wondering about that because my desktop has an insider build but my laptop does not. And it’s working fine on my laptop.

The Blackwidow v4 RGB works just fine when Synapse is not running and fn+ctrl+(1-9) will change the lights.  This doesn’t help at all if you want multiple RGB devices synchronized using Synapse.  It really seems to be software and not hardware as the point of failure.  Some folks said their RGB worked fine until a Synapse update a few weeks ago.  I haven’t had mine that long, so the RGB has always been white unless I stop Synapse and fn+ctrl+(1-9) to something other than just white.

Mine is exactly the same, only brought the keyboard yesterday so have never seen it work properly yet.

I’d try with external app like OpenRGB. But if it fails changing color on this app too - then only keyboard RMA.

Tried OpenRGB and it doesn’t have any support for the v4 Pro at all, currently only goes to v3.

Without Synapse running the keyboard cycles through it’s colours as normal so I know it’s capable of it.

I normally use SignalRGB but they removed the plugin for this keyboard due to issues of its own. The keyboard itself is fine it’s supposedly a software issue.

Does OpenRGB allow color synchronization with the other devices?

Yes, it should sync RGB with other devices.
