Hello, Insiders!

I recently got a chance to sit down and chat with the engineering team responsible for the Razer Viper. Take a look at the Q&A below!

What inspired the Viper?
The Razer Viper was specifically designed for competitive gameplay with the purpose of optimizing performance.

How was the name chosen?
It fits what the mouse represents in terms of features and design.
It was also an optical mouse we produced in 2004, back when many mice were still using ball-type mechanical sensors.

What challenges did the engineers face in creating the mouse?
Some of the challenges we faced included finding the right shape and reducing the weight without sacrificing performance. The result is a mouse design without holes in its external shell that could compromise its structural integrity.

What were some of the critical design decisions?
The DPI button was positioned at the bottom to prevent unintended DPI shifts mid-game.
Accessibility of the side buttons are critical for the same reason by preventing unintentional clicks.
In order to ensure the most reliable performance, the Razer Viper is also equipped with a proven 5G optical sensor, optical switches on the main L/R buttons and improved side grips.

How do you envision the Viper evolving?
We envision the Razer Viper evolving with improved technology to eliminate undesired residual drag of the mouse and engineering it to be even more precise.
Note: The recently released Viper Ultimate with fast wireless and a new Focus+ intelligent sensor does exactly this!

How do you use the Viper everyday?
Many of us use the Razer Viper for work and games. It has the perfect balance of both features.

What were some pieces of feedback you got during the product iteration process?
The comfort curves of the mouse had to be carefully built, its weight had to be optimal as tested by esports pros, and the default DPI stages had to be precision tuned.

Was there anything different about how the Viper was developed (compared to other Razer mice)?
All of our mice are approached with the same level of insane attention to detail, but each with a different focus. The Razer Viper went through a bit more esports validation and durability testing, considering the new switch technology has a higher clicks rating.

Why would someone use this over the DeathAdder Elite?
Both mice are great in their own ways, but each mouse caters to gamers of different hand shapes, grip style and, of course, preference to features. The Razer Viper has advantages in eliminating unintended clicks and its lightweight nature makes it more comfortable for larger swipes, but others may feel more comfortable with the DAE’s proven shape slightly larger profile.

What kind of games/gamers would the Viper be best
Any game where precision is critical.

And that’s it! If you want to see more of this type of content in the future, drop a comment and let us know!

I just cant believe we finally have so many nice choices when it comes to mice, regardless of what brand you want to follow. More variety for the consumer is always nice cause mouse shape is something that apart from a custom fit you can never have a one size fits all.

Totally agree with you, the more competitivity in the market the better the product for the end consumer will be.
The most clear example is AMDs recent succes in the CPU market with their higher core count, pushing Intel to do significant improvements to their products!
This mouse seems promisin. real nice

Really good coverage on the production of this top-tier mouse. I'm more of a Deathadder guy myself but now I can see the appeal of the Viper.

Same here.
Nice grip and sensitivity

but the clicking and pressing feeling of the optical switch is not as good as the previous Omron switch, and that's the reason why some people don't choose DeathAdder V2 and viper as their mouse.
If talking about Razer mouse, really can not use words to describe, it is really top notch, in terms of performance, design. I am very happy about this product

That photo would be a sick screensaver or background. Is there one like that for the Deathadder V2 or the Huntsman Elite?

You can download some of the stock advertising photos for the Deathadder V2 and Huntsman Elite at the very bottom of their Razerstore pages, found here and here.
