Let your Razer Chroma-enabled devices rock to your beats with the beta Audio Visualizer, developed on the latest Razer Chroma SDK 4.8.

Fire off the colors not just on your Razer BlackWidow Chroma, but also on the newly supported Razer Mamba TE & Razer Firefly!

*EDIT* 19th January 2016
Hey everyone! I can't believe it has already almost been 4 months since this post came up and Chroma has come a long way since then! The Audio Visualizer is no longer an early build and the setup process is very simple, I've updated the steps below accordingly.

We’ll let the video du-du-du-du-do the showing:

We really appreciate all the work our community developers have put in to push the potential of the Razer Chroma technology and our friend @CalcProgrammer1 has really done a solid job on the Audio Visualizer. This new Audio Visualizer gives you the freedom to customize the color scheme and tweak its amplitude so you are only limited by your own creativity. Did we mention it’ll not just react to your music, but also to game audio?

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version
  • Once updated, make sure that under your Chroma device > Chroma Apps tab, you have "Chroma Apps" turned on
  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer
  • Install the vc_redist.x86.exe file that comes together in the zip
  • Launch the Audio Visualizer and get rockin'

Have a go at it and show us what you are doing with your Chroma hardware.

FAQs:

To those facing the "mfc140.dll is missing" issue
Download the Visual Studio Redistributable version "vc_redist.x86.exe"

As this is a very early build, it clashes with Advanced Configurator occasionally.

Change your effects to the default ones e.g. Wave, Spectrum Cycling. You can then launch the application and your keyboard/mousemat/mice will show a blank slate until a sound is played.

What products does it work with? *EDIT*
It works with...

  • BlackWidow Chroma / TE
  • DeathStalker Chroma
  • Firefly
  • Diamondback
  • Naga Chroma/Naga Epic
  • Mamba TE/Mamba wireless
  • Orochi
  • DeathAdder Chroma
  • Tartarus Chroma
  • Orbweaver Chroma
  • Kraken 7.1 Chroma

The visualizer bars are really low, anyway to fix that?
You can bump the bar's height up by increasing the amplitude or your volume (not too much please).

How do I get the colours like the ones in the video?
Adjust "Foreground Mode" to the colour scheme that you like. In the video, I used "Rainbow Inverse". You can also add a "Background Mode" should you like.

Does it react to any sounds besides music?
It takes your Windows sound input, hence any sound - including your games or movies!

Do I have to turn off Synapse?
Closing Synapse before launching the app will be the safest.

Keyboard goes black but it does not react to any audio
As the program is reliant on some limited functions by Windows, be sure that your volume is cranked up or adjust the "Amplitude" to a higher value (Try in the 500s or 1000s)

I can't get it to work due to misc reasons that we have yet to identify
I apologize for this, this was meant to be a beta build and I shared it earlier as I knew the video will get you guys psyched for the app! We are using your feedbacks to build a better experience.

While it may be tedious right now, we WILL be reducing the steps and processes in due time with Synapse and etc. That is on top of more product support. Hang in there!

Just installed the 1.10 version. Now my Kraken works, although it doesn't have any background mode, nor does the Razer logo and scroll wheel on my Mamba TE. Is this normal? Also is there a way to save the settings?

The logo LEDs, scroll wheels, and Naga keypad backlights are all considered "Single Color Mode LEDs" and are adjusted by the Single Color Mode setting. This setting can be foreground OR background, but not both at once. If you want these LEDs to follow the background color just change single color mode to "Follow Background".

To save the settings I added a command line interface, so you can create a shortcut to the program and then add your command line options in the shortcut settings.

Hi CalcProgrammer1, are you planning on updating this so that it workings on the diamondback chroma?? :)

EDIT: Sorry, my bad, was working too with the diamondback... THANKS A DOZEN CalcProgrammer1!!!

I'm adding support for it now. 1.10 works with it but the 5 bottom LEDs around the base aren't used because they're not present in any of the existing supported devices. I received a Diamondback Chroma and most of the LEDs worked great so I'm adjusting my code to support it completely. I also received the Naga Chroma (non-Epic) and it works great with 1.10.
Here's Build 1.11 which adds complete support for Diamondback Chroma and adds a new Christmas theme Green/White/Red. If you're using the command line interface you may need to update your shortcuts as some color schemes have changed IDs.

Just got my Chroma on Sunday and installed this. Absolutely amazed.

Question: I'm no programmer but is there a way to add other color patterns? I wanted a "fire" theme to go with my PC, maybe red/orange.

Also is there a way to save the settings I have? I have to reenter stuff everytime I boot it up. Luckily I macro'd it to the board but it'd be neat if it saved.

This works flawlessly on my Blackwidow Chroma, great work! Surprisingly, it also (kinda) worked on my Deathadder Chroma. The flashing and colors went along with the music.

Keep up the amazing work!!
Why isn't the Razer Orochi Chroma supported?

Success! =D

Believe it or not I think it was NET Framework 4.6 screwing with things.. and if it wasn't it's simply Synapse being finicky about its install dependencies and the order you apply them. The steps I listed below worked three times after rebuilding my rig with various versions of Windows 7 and a myriad of Synapse installs and removals.

How I got CHROMA APPS OFF/ON and KV 1.09 working. A freaking hassle.. but worth it!

I replicated this process on another Windows 7 Pro x64 box with success three times.

Thank you CalcProgrammer1 for making KeyboardVisualizer! Thank you Razer for the cool Chroma gear but man Synapse is going to be a bear with apps if the dependencies are so chaotic. Regardless the Razer Chroma gear and the KV application was the missing touch I needed for my gaming rig. A big lanparty I'm going to had me determined to get KV working again. =D

Here's a couple screenshots of my SLI rig in RGB madness. The command line config is blue/green and matches the RGB lights and fans I've installed on a case I've modded for water-cooling. (a work in progress). I have a full nickel plexi water blocks by Bitspower and Monsoon hardline and fittings ready to install. (I'm sorta liking the case clean with the green/blue/black/white..(my GF thinks the water-cooling would look amazing.) I'm never really above 40C as is unless I'm running Evolve cranked. =D

Awesome program! Thank you for the suggestions and work Franubis!

I followed all these steps, KV shows up on my apps list, I can set the background but it does not recognize sound on the visualization preview or display on my keyboard (Blackwidow Chroma) any help or suggestions?
could there be a way for you to make some sort of thing that lets certain programs run on the visualizer
Thanks so much! works perfectly. I have tested and found out that i can have Synapse open while using the Visualizer. This allows me to have my deathader colored while my keyboard plays to the music.

Why isn't the Razer Orochi Chroma supported?

According to a GitHub user, the Orochi does work in wired mode (as with all wireless/wired mice, only the wired mode is supported by the SDK). I do not own one so I cannot confirm. Theoretically all mice should have some degree of support because I use the generic mouse effect in the SDK that works with all mice.

I have been at this for almost 5 hours trying to get this thing to work. Is there any way you could possibly help me. I have done all steps. Visualizer shows but nothing happens on keyboard and have turned the ampitude up to 3000% just in case sounds might be to low. I have uninstalled the razer synapse i had previously and downloaded the august 10th build i believe they have on the website. and still nothing works. Only thing that seems to be off is every time i run the Razer_chroma_sdk_core_v0.4.8 it shows a quick window then does nothing. idk...

I7 4790K
GPU: GTX 980 4GB Superclock
16gb RAM
Windows 10
Too bad.... I only got Mamba and Firefly 😞 Still not perfect yet.. plan on getting the blackwidow chroma !
When i turn off my monitor i can't hear anything and i have to unplug and plug my headphones, pls fix.
Is there a way to customize the audio visualizer and SAVE it? I have to redo the settings each time I start the Chroma App
This is AMAZING! I love it! Good work dude!
Will this work with The Orbweaver?
This app is awesome! Works perfectly on all my Chroma stuff :D

My one question is, what does FFT Window Mode change/do?

Orbweaver Chroma is supported.

My one question is, what does FFT Window Mode change/do?

FFT Window Mode adjusts the window function used during the fast Fourier transform calculation. The window function is applied to the sampled data from the audio stream before the FFT calculation which is supposed to help eliminate noise caused by the end points of the sampling. There are a few common functions available you can select but ultimately they don't have a huge effect.
I see, thanks 🙂
Hi there, I've done just about everything I can do to make this work, following the instructions multiple times and doing everything possible
The audio visualizer does not even recognize that sound is playing
and is also not working with the keyboard to perform the effects
Please help,

I have followed the steps and tried the latest update (1.11) but I can not get this to work. The visualizer shows the amplitude but the Blackwidow Chroma Stealth and Firefly do not react in any way. My operating system is Windows 10 64 Bit if that matters.

Thank you.
Sweet, I'm going to try this out. Thanks for the video and tutorial 🙂
