Blackwidow V4 X - a few keys are delayed and unresponsive

Hello there,

I have started to notice more and more that some of my keys on my keyboard are sometimes unresponsive or having input delay. For example when I was typing this text I had to press my “s” key many times(4-6times) until it got recognized. I having this issue with several keys like : S,R,M,N and Spacebar. I have tried to switch the USB ports, hard reset, reinstall drivers and also completely uninstall Razer Synapse. Nothing seems to work. I have got my keyboard one month ago. And I started doing this starting this month, with R being the first key starting to be unresponsive and other keys followed afterwards.

If there is someone who knows some tips to try to fix this issue, I would be very grateful. I have my keyboard under warranty so in the worst case I can (hopefully) get new one.

Hi!

Same problem with D and L

Hello, i have same problem with my K, looking for RMA

same problems here too. for a 210 sgd keyboard, wtf razer? i expect better than this. so disappointed…

Same issue.  Started with the D key, so I learned how to solder switches, opened the keyboard, replaced the switch with another that I never hit, and it worked for a bit.

Then a week later, the A key was acting up.  Did the same thing.  Now today, the Y key is having the same issues.

Getting tired of it.  Keyboard is less than 3 months old.  There is no firmware update option on Razer’s support site for this specific keyboard.  No options in Synapse to try to fix this.

Same issue. 3 month old keyboard and the “A” key just intermittently cuts out when held. That and the “e” and “s” keys frequently double up on me.

I’ve gone through the troubleshooting here as much as I can, since there’s no firmware update available for this keyboard. I guess I’ll be going through an RMA and asking for a refund. From what I’m seeing on these forums for various newer keyboards, and the complete lack of response from Razer support, I’ll be avoiding Razer altogether in the future.

Same here, I opened a support ticket, and waiting for their response.

Did anyone find a fix?

I stopped looking after my post, and ended up buying a new hot-swappable keyboard from another brand so I don’t have to deal with this stuff again.

On two separate instances I desoldered and swapped switches (which was time consuming and annoying), and that fixed that specific button issue.  But then slowly other buttons started having the same problem.  I suspect it’s either (1) a firmware issue that they haven’t fixed yet, (2) poor quality solder, or (3) poor quality switches.

Get a refund if you can.  Lack of a Razer response here after 2 months is a pretty good indication that they aren’t going to do anything to fix it.

I think it is a firmware issue, I exchanged the keyboard for a different brand

Yep same.  I have problems  with ( 1/ 3 and S )    keyboard is less than 2 months old.      ill type 1234    and this is what  I get    24/ 234/ 24/ 24/ 24/ 24 /1234/1234/24/124/ makes gaming imposable

I am also having the same problem and I only got it 2-months ago, working fine back then

I wanted to put my issues up here also had an older keyboard i got from online store RAZER BLACKWIDOW V4 with yellow switch and it had a similar problem the keys would stop and cause double input. I hit up the support and they got it replaced with a newone and now this one is also having the same issue. with random keys not working or input are very slow duplicates. So I will be doing another support for this keyboard also and see what is going on.

Yea I have been looking for solutions for this for a while. I have been a Razer customer for half a decade. My keyboard, mouse, mouse pad,  headset, and any peripheral I’ve owned in the last 5 years have all be razer. I used to like them a lot, but both of the last two product I’ve purchased from them have been absolutely awful and defective after less than 3 month of gaming  2 days a week. Support is unhelpful as I bought them from target and no longer have the receipt. Where was the QC testing? Was there any at all?

I’m am considering reporting Razer to both the FTC and BBB. It is clear after spending time going through these forums that this is not just an issue I’m having, and Razer employees have not commented anywhere or offered any kind of solution. In fact I feel as though they are burying their head in the sand. These keyboards should have been recalled. What I’m left with instead is a $150 Paperweight. At this point, with this many defective keyboards, its quite literally just a scam.

I purchased the Blackwidow V4 pro off of amazon a couple months ago and over the past week i haven noticed my D and Spacebar keys have become somewhat unresponsive it can take 1-4 keystrokes to get it to work sometimes and other times the spacebar will even double input when it does decide to work…  this was infuriating to type out.

Hi!

Same problem with D and L

I have the problem on the L , sometimes works , sometimes have to press more than once .

Ah jeez, came here hoping for a solution, but just another example of the problem.  I guess I’ve been ‘lucky’ that it’s taken 15 months to exhibit this problem, but unlucky insofar as that puts it outside of warranty.  For me it’s currently the enter key that’s acting up.

I thought the green switches were good for some million key presses - I use it a lot, but not THAT much!!

It just sux a 150€ keyboard have this problems , i mean….this problems should be found on 10€ ones , not  premium quality ones , this is very sad .

I bought barracuda X , deathadder v3  mouse ,  goliath mousepad  and this keyboard all at once , so i spent ALOT of money on it , the minimum i expect is they last some YEARS , not weeks...

Got the same problem with my V4 and started going thru the Synapse several times. Did not reinstall, but update  the Synapse from the previous BlackWidow Elite Synapse and still face the same problem. Subsequently, I went into the Studio and reassigned the color for those keys that have the problem. Funny, the problem is gradually solved I said gradually because the problem still persist but less often now. Got this V4 a week ago and the unresponsive keys are gradually dissipating.

Hope this helps as it, at least, worked for me.

Cheers.

P/S: I got the yellow switches.

My Blackwidow v4 is less than 3 months old (purchased early May) and first the d key was not responding more and more frequently. No time yet to troubleshoot, tried removing the key and a couple around it, cleaning it out. Seemed to help, but not for long. Then the f key started having the problem. Disappointed to find this is a known problem, but I had a suspicion I might, being that my keyboard is less than 3 months old. I had to switch to my old Durgod because I use it for work, and this week has been so busy, i didn’t have time for this recurring issue. Going to contact Support tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.

The problem is other , because it happens even without any software ON , i turned off everything and still happens.

I’ ve returned to this post after I posted an hour ago and my post was removed or not saved. Strange. Same as you guys had my Widow V4 X for 3+ months and the ‘e’ key just sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t and I firmly press it down.

I don’t eat food near my keyboard, I haven’t dropped it or smashed my fist on it or spilled any liquids on it and it’s clean. So I don’t know why my ‘e’ key sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t.  I am willing to try anythin

I have this keyboard for a month or so , i never bought a expensive keyboard and this makes me really sad , i mean  how can this happen ? Its not always , but quite sux you buy a premium product and FOREVER will have a problem with the letter L ? I mean...come on.

A response from razer would be nice , maybe a firmware update ? Maybe its the keyboard error ? I dont know.

I’m not sure how this has happened but doing testing on this the ‘e’ key is certainly intermittently unresponsive. I’ve tried a firmware update, I’ve tried uninstalling Synapse and tried it on a different PC and the same result.

Looking at my Amazon purchase of this, I bought it back in March 2024 so I’ve had the keyboard for 4+ months not 3 but still it’s very disappointing.

A good test for unresponsive keys problems which are intermittent is to type a sentence many times with the letter of the key. Also not sure about the support for this as online for this keyboard it states that you can change the polling rate on the keyboard by going to Synapse->Keyboard->Customize->Polling and there is no such option in synapse to do this. Very poor. Even typing this message the ‘e’ key has failed me several times.

Ok, what I’m going to do is tonight before I go to bed is with the keyboard unplugged spray some isopropyl alcohol onto the key switch as per the video below and ‘flick’ the micro switch gently to see if it dislodges something that is not visible when you remove the key cover. As per this video below:  I’m going to leave it 9 hours or so which is plenty of time for the keyboard to dry before I plug it back in for testing. I will give you all an UPDATE in a day or so inform you about the immediate results, if the same key reverts to the intermittent unresponsiveness after say a few days or weeks I will update you all here. Stay tuned for the results.  I really like the feel and the ergonomics of the Razer Widow X V4 and previous keyboards so I’ve not giving up on them.

How to properly clean your microswitch keys and maybe fix them

Ok I am back to report on that ‘fix’ that I provided the YouTube link to and it’s early days still BUT IT WORKED ! the ‘e’ key on my Black Widow X V4 is now working again and before it was intermittently unresponsive so back then before the fix 1 out or 3 or 1 out of 4 ‘e’ key presses would not register.

So to reiterate, , I unplugged the keyboard, I got one of those tiny  plastic spray bottles that (say) you could spray perfume or aftershave out of, filled it with isopropyl alcohol, took the key cover off, sprayed the GREEN micros witch, pressed it up and down and ‘gently flicked it’ like the guy did in that ‘How to properly clean your microswitch keys and maybe fix them’ Youtube video, they I used a cotton swab to sweep along the edge of the wet microswitch, then sprayed some more isopropyl alcohol and gently waggled the microswitch, I left it to dry for 12 hours or so then came back plugged in and  it just worked !! the ‘e’ key just works as normal 100% even if you press it gently.

The test was for me typing in a sentence into Notepad really quickly which had ‘many’  letter ‘e’ s in the sentence; typing in that long sentence repeatedly and all the letter e’s in the words came out fine! with no missing letters.
