Huntsman V2 Analog repeating previously pressed keys

Userlevel 3

Hi there. I’m the owner of (so far) two Huntsman V2 Analogs. I fell for the marketing gimmick of the variable actuators, but that aside, I love them to bits. I use one, and my boyfriend uses another. My keyboard will, at seemingly random, repeat the last dozen keys or so that have been pressed in the last minute. The result is an infuriating situation where the keyboard will repeat windows key presses, enter keystrokes, alt-tab inputs (which makes games more interesting), grenade key (g) inputs (which makes games slightly more interesting), fire-mode selector (x) inputs (which makes games significantly more interesting), and spewing the last few seconds of conscious thoughts I’ve just typed a second time in an instant, trashing whatever sentence I’m trying to formulate. If that happens while I’m typing this, I’ll leave it in as an example.

So it registers as actual inputs, so I immediately suspected hardware, or some kind of conflict. I haven’t noticed if the chroma lights respond to these echoed inputs, and I don’t know if that would tell me anything useful about the issue at hand. The issue has presented through a refresh of windows, driver reinstallation, firmware updates, uninstalls and reinstalls and rollbacks and port changes and every which method of restoring and repairing software I can think of. I caved, and submitted a support ticket with Razer.

They were prompt in getting me set up with a replacement unit which, of course, exhibited the exact same behavior. My PC is a $5,000 wreck from a large pre-build manufacturer who shipped it with an inadequate power supply, so I thought maybe “Hey, something on the mb is probably just shagged, I probably have to replace it, but incase something is only corrupted or something in my SSD, I’ll reinstall my OS”. So I did that, much to my chagrin. Then, my boyfriend, the owner of the second keyboard we’ve purchased, reported that he’s been having the same damn issue.

The issue is confounding, because it happens so randomly that I can’t put a nail in any one particular cause. I think it’s a software conflict somewhere, but I’m not sure how to check precisely what might be throwing the conflict on two entirely different machines. As far as I’m aware, the only applications we both have installed are the big ones that probably millions of people have installed. (Steam, Discord, Synapse 3, etc)

I believe recalling the issue repeating while synapse wasn’t initialized, which would be a hell of a thing, but I wouldn’t swear on it because my mind is shot full of holes, so this is a sort of last hurrah attempt to solve the issue before I just convince myself to tear the 3090 out of my rig and slap it into a new one when my expenses can afford it.

Am I crazy? Does this issue sound familiar to anyone else? Is someone burning toast? Please help.

Thanks bunches!

Razer has sent me an e-mail saying they’ve tracked down the cause of the issue. Due to it’s complexity however, they cannot give me a time frame that a solution will be provided within. 🙃Very premium feel to hear after 2 months of patiently waiting, I’ve got nothing to show for it and a closed support ticket.

Looks like its going to be time for a new keyboard too since Razer cant fix this

This is my exact solution. I placed my pre-order for a different brand keyboard the other day.  I’ll live with this flawed Razer keyboard until the other one arrives, but that will be the last Razer keyboard I waste my money on.  5+ months with no resolution, to an issue that wasn’t there prior to whatever they messed up, is inexcusable. Bottom line… they have our money already, it’s an aged / older model keyboard, and I don’t foresee them correcting the issue.  They’ve had more than ample time.  I’ve probably spent $2k or more on Razer peripherals over the years, dating back to the original ‘99 Boomslang mouse in the tin can.  Never had any major issue until this. But when you use the keyboard for work and leisure, and you’re battling this issue several times during the work day, it’s time to toss in the towel.  Lesson learned.

I am having the same exact issue on my Huntsman V2 Analog as well

I might see if we can have someone from Razer look into the issue. I’ve noticed it tends to occur more frequently in the evening, which is even more confounding. Do you notice it becoming any more frequent during specific times, or while doing specific things? If it matters, I’m running Windows 11 on an Intel CPU; i9-11900k. There’s just so many similarities we might have that could be the source. I know Razer has some log collecting software, that could help, but I’m not even remotely clever enough to dig through the logs. I might see if I can feed them to an AI and see if it can make sense of any log events.

If I had to guess, I suspect it might be a conflict between drivers that are proprietary to Razer’s analog system, whether it’s in use or not, and something on the OS’s side. A conflict with the analog system would explain why this might be a relatively niche problem for most people. I barely found anything online, and hardly anything in forums. If it’s related to the analog feature, then only users who are specifically using a Huntsman V2 Analog would be impacted. I doubt it’s a very prevalent keyboard, despite how novel the input technique is.

We require the wisdom of the Elders.

I also have this exact issue. Very problematic issue!

Recently copied a password and pasted it, then switched to Discord and typed in a public chat room. I got my password pasted and sent mid-sentence.

Also been having issues, as stated by OP, where I’m writing a text and it repeats a whole sentence for absolutely no reason.

Although from what I can remember, this issue is somewhat new. I’ve had my Huntsman V2 Analog for a year now and only really started noticing this for the past few months at most.

@sinclaj1 Your case’s different but still annoying… I heard that Huntsman had that previously also.

What Huntsman V2 Analog has now, and talking about it in this post is, it retypes several keystrokes. It includes enter, shift, any keys on the keyboard. The symptom is like ihavetoThe symptom is like ihavetosaysomething while I only wanted to type [ihavetosaysomething]. Additional input can be mixed while keyboard repeats previous keystrokes. This even includes whole ALT+TAB and Enter, so what you input ID&passwords can be sent via messenger if user’s response isn’t super quick. I did experienced that.

And yeah.. Razer’s still keeping us wait for eternity yet. No official statements as far as I know, only individual responses about this case for who asked about it to Razer Support.

I am having the same exact issue on my Huntsman V2 Analog as well

Well its a new year and this issue still persists.

Looks like its going to be time for a new keyboard too since Razer cant fix this

Hi, after mouths and buy another razer keyboard my hunstaman analog is back to life without bug after intaling the last synapse software., i hope work now for a long time !

thanks @Razer Admin

Same problem here, running the latest firmware and Synapse version.

Possibly related is another funny thing that can happen randomly if you spam the keyboard hard for 5-10 seconds but I’ll leave that for anyone reading this to find out. (yep it’s bad lol)

The only culprit seems to be Synapse even without installing any of its modules/addons. Once you exit Synapse everything goes away.

It also turns out after some deep googling that it is certainly a software bug happening on most of their devices. The only thing ppl have been posting in the last years is to just exit Synapse completely and never run it again. This of course is not a real solution.
Really a shame their software guys couldn’t solve these issues after so much time, maybe due to some kind of limitation or unrealistic expectations from their own hardware components, who knows.

Support will never be able to solve anything unfortunately since this is an old issue and nobody found anything to fix it yet.

The retyping previous sentence problem still isn't fixed. Updated the firmware and synapse but still happening.

My Huntsman V2 Analog has the exact same issue, it randomly repeats the last word/letters I type. It started a few weeks ago. The problem occurs only when Synapse is running.

Userlevel 2

Why topic appears with status solved? because we can confirm, this bug still here!!!!

This started happening to me what feels like a few weeks or months ago.  It doesn’t happen a lot, but when it does, but when it does, its really annoying but when it does it’s really annoying.

See what I did there?  Perfect example of the issue.

Huntsman V2 Analog here

No news, no fixes ,no updates… Razer forgot about us

Userlevel 2

I’m having this issue too. It seems to happen more when Im typing fast. If I purposefully try to recreate it I cant seem to.
I was even looking into windows shortcuts to see if there is one to copy paste the exact past so many letters that you typed, but then I remembered my keyboard is Razer and to check the forums here first.

I have the same issue with my Huntsman v2 Analog, v1.6 didn’t help.
All I can say is that it seems to happen when I type very fast and use shift and or enter in the sentence. But it is so random it is almost impossible to tell with certainty.
However it is extremely annoying, especially when it happens on an enter press because then the message gets send out and bam you look like an absolute fool.

Userlevel 2

Just adding that I tried to raise a support ticket as I thought the more people raise tickets the more likely they are to notice the issue.

Turns out that I can no longer raise a ticket as my keyboard is outside of warranty period.

So if anyone else wants to add a support ticket to bring awareness of this issue you will have to do it under software>synapse category if your keyboard is out of warranty period.

Userlevel 3

I’ve tossed the towel in on waiting; I’ve been using a different keyboard entirely (logitech) and this issue disappeared, irregardless of whether synapse is running. Recommend staying away from purchasing the Huntsman line of keyboards until the issue is resolved.

For those of you at home who are playing along , there was another update released by Razer. It brings Synapse to version 3.8.831.90619 and attempts to correct the issue we’ve been seeing. I installed the update early this morning, restored the brightness of my Huntsman’s chroma, and within 2 minutes the issue repeated. I’ve restarted my PC just in case the OS was in a weird state, so I’ll see if that has fixed the issue or not.

I’ll push a request to Razer to see if they’re interested in getting logs from customers who are having the same issue. I’d just suggest posting logs ourselves to try and find the issue, but I don’t know what the logs collect, so I don’t want anyone to share their logs online, lest they contain a password in plaintext or some personal info.

I’m sending an email to touch base with Razer’s team and will update if I figure out anything new. Cheers, good luck, have fun gamers.

Userlevel 2

Yeah I just had the repeated keystrokes happen again. No dice on this patch

Userlevel 3

We’re still at it people; I’ve been in contact with Razer support since I opened this ticket, and I sent in some logs from Synapse log collector. they pushed one update in an effort to rectify the issue, which had no effect on the bug. Do people experiencing this bug also use chroma on their keyboards? It’s a snowball’s chance, but really the only thing I can think to do is share commonalities.

So far, more often than not the issue seems to manifest most often when:

  • typing quickly
  • making a mistake when typing
  • making multiple inputs
  • using the keyboard later in the evening
  • Chroma brightness is set >20

My keyboard has a Chroma Studio setup with Static, Ripple, Spectrum Cycling and Audio Meter. No macros running. Anything here ring true with anyone else?

I’ll update this thread once I hear back from Razer’s team on this. They’ve been assuring me they’re waiting to hear from their software team on the issue.

Damn, I thought I was going crazy. I have the same issues with the keyboard.

I’m following your advice, though and am trying a lower actuation point, as well as dim lighting on my keyboard. I hope this helps.

Nothing worked for me. I’m using a different keyboard.

Yeah, that didn’t work for me, either, tbh. What worked was completely turning off Synapse. I’m controlling the RGB through openRGB at the moment. I really like how this keyboard feels and the only proper alternative for me would be the wooting two he. Hope this software glitch gets sorted out eventually.

Hi all,

I’m testing the last Synapse’s update and for now… it seems fixed but I’m not sure. Please, share your impressions. My version is 20240213

I feel the exact same way. Like you I have spent lots on razer gear over the years and am always happy with their hardware but the software doesnt match and I hate how they never even acknowledge issues. I mean this thread says “solved” when it definitely isnt.
I will persist with it for now but next peripheral I buy will not be razer and I will start the slow process of gradually moving away from them.
its a damn shame.

Userlevel 2

If they would at least allow you to roll back to previous versions of Synapse, we would temporarily fix the problem... but you can't downgrade. There are also rumors of a Synapse 4 in beta... I hope it's something decent and not what we have now. I repeat again Please fix it!!! your OVERPRICED devices needs a better software, if you have a quality hardware Why degrade your brand image with this bad software?
