Razer 17 Pro Black screen after 2004 Windows 10 update

Hello,
After updating Windows 10 2004 version, it started to have a black screen. It still works (eg: if connected to a projector by HDMI).

Model:
Razer Blade 17 Pro
2080 MaxQ
RZ09-03148

The drivers are updated.
I already read some previous forums and tried to install the BIOS 1.04. Although since is for different models (RZ-09 03295 and RZ-09 03297), I cannot install the BIOS and the problem remains. Is there any BIOS update for my model? Any suggestions?

I also have to sign my name to this issue.

RBP 17 4k 120 (2020)
Issue started when I updated my video card drivers from the August rendition to the Sept 17 one. Blank screen after starting the update.
Recovered the system.
Tried a BIOS update from 1.00 to 1.04. Same issue, recovered again.
Updated the system to newest Windows update. Tried the drivers again, same issue.
Recovered the system AGAIN.
I've since left the drivers on 442.53 and have had no issues since, but I'd really like to be on the most recent drivers.

UPDATE: 456.02 (Aug 17, 2020) still works fine on my Blade, just updated from 442.53 to 456.02 with no issues. Must be specific to 456.38.
Hi everyone...I went ahead and uninstalled the windows 10, 2004 update. My screen is working again. For me, the same setup as the OP (RBP 17 4k 120hz -2019) I followed these instruction here: https://pureinfotech.com/uninstall-windows-10-2004-2020-update/

I was also able to run the latest drivers for my 2080 Max Q (456.38)

I hope this helps everyone get to a stable set up. Really disappointed with Windows about that "update" that came from....Windows. SMH. Going to be a bit more picky when it comes from them for now on.

Good luck everyone. Especially the 2020 RBP people. Hopefully this works too.

Hey everyone! Thanks for posting your Razer Blade Pro 17 2020's concern here. The team was able to replicate the issue on the NVIDIA RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics driver version 456.38 and currently doing an investigation. In the meantime, if you get the black screen issue and unable to turn the display back on, please perform the following:

1. Connect the laptop to an external monitor, go to the NVIDIA website, and download and install the previous version 456.02.
2. You can also connect the laptop to an external display, and go to Razer Synapse 3.0 > System > Performance and select "NVIDIA@Optimus", then restart your computer.

Feel free to update this thread or submit a case to our Support Team should you need additional assistance. You can also send me a PM.
Same happened after updated to the newest Nvidia driver this morning to my Pro late 2019. Only solution is set GPU mode to "NVIDIA Optimus" in bios.

Actually, i just got the RBPro back from RMA as i have BSOD in windows while i perform a bios update from 1.03 to 1.04 from this link http://drivers.razersupport.com//index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=3911&nav=0,350,920,926. And the RBPro I got back after RMA is still 1.03, i am so scare to perform bios update now.
I have the same issue and the same exact laptop as OP. My HDMI works when I connect it to my LG OLED CX...and I was wondering why there was an issue with playing at 120hz. Was trying to set up FF14 and it only displayed properly at 60hz.

Also, the display on my laptop is black/off. I've tried to start it with the HDMI unplugged, and it does the windows hello, but stay black/off until I plug the TV to the HDMI. Checking display settings doesn't even recognize my laptop screen. This sucks.

I'm going to see if I can uninstall the windows update or revert back to the previous nvidia driver. The laptop and TV via HDMI was working perfectly before I updated. But I'm not sure which update messed it up. Either the windows 10, 2004 did or the latest graphics driver.

Oh...and I didn't have to change my GPU to Optimus
Perfect, thank you rhino8785,
I will do the same as you until they release a new version and hopefully the problem won't persist anymore with that one.
The problem lies in the new driver version then.
Thank you!

I see. What's your NVIDIA graphics version? Please check the steps below:

a. Press Windows+R on your keyboard. Type in DXDIAG into the run command text box and hit OK.
b. Then click on YES.
c. Click on the Display 2 tab and look for the Nvidia version on the right side

If it's on 456.55 already, please uninstall and reinstall the NVIDIA display driver while logged in to safe mode. Please check bpvarsity's workaround on this thread. Let me know if it helps.

Should the issue persists, submit a case to our Support Team by clicking this link or send me a PM.

I'll give that a try now, what about the latest 'Studio REady' driver, any better?

Hey, I am using the studio driver but 452.06 I tried all the other drivers both GeForce and studio none worked.. Only the 452.06 either GeForce or Studio works
Hey @Razer.SpeedCr0ss , No problem, glad I could help out. Thank you for your help with this issue, really appreciated.
Will stick 452.06 for sure as it works for now and have video to edit.
Have a super day.

Hey everyone! Thanks for posting your feedbacks/concerns here. Our devs team is aware of the issue. I suggest submitting a case so our Support Team so they track the affected user and gather details from your devices, which can help the team's investigation.
I am having the same problem. Brand new RBP 17 2020, 4k display, all drivers up-to-date.

In Dedicated GPU mode: Sleep, Hibernate, screen off (powersave), changing the display frequency, or even plugging in an HDMI will all result in a black screen that won't turn back on. A hard reboot is required to get the screen back. If you have an external screen plugged in when you reboot (screen mirroring), the above testing will result in a working display on the external screen while the main screen remains black as described above.

In Optimus mode: All of the above work normally and as expected.

Also noticed:

In Dedicated GPU mode: Netflix will only stream in 1080p quality (cntrl-alt-shift-d)

In Optimus mode: Netflix will stream in 4k quality (cntrl-alt-shift-d)

I will point the support team on my ticket to this thread, as they don't appear to have heard about this issue.

Did you fix the black screen problem?
I continue with the 452.06 drivers. and I am afraid to update to the most recent ones, since it can return the black screen.Since factory reset is a lot of time and work.
PLEASE.

Hi there! I understand how urgent the issue needs to be resolved. Our Support Team is still investigating and working on a fix. If you have a case number, please send it to me via PM so I can review and update it.

4600 Euros in France.

Mine is the $3800 version add to that extended warranty and it's pretty close, sad for a machine that I love but can't update the graphics driver for now.
hello, support Razer.
I want to play the new call of duty, black ops, cold war, and my lap top asks to update the nvidia drivers, of which they are the big problem that many of your customers have that we buy the Razer blade pro 17 2020.
I would appreciate if you could help us solve our problem.
Tks.
I have the same issue, requires me to do a hard reset every time, just to get it to work, its an annoyance.
Same issue here, Razer Blade 17 Pro 2080 MaxQ. Only solution has been to select "NVIDIA Optimus" in Synapse which limits display to 60Hz and negates the best aspects of the laptop. Please help.
I have exactly the same model and exactly the same problem as everyone!
This is my model:

Razer Blade 17 Pro
2080 MaxQ
RZ09-03148

Its been like this for a few days now, since i did some updates on the system. Its very annoying! I read in some forums that updating the BIOS resolves the issue, so I updated the BIOS to version 1.04 using the available updater on the razer support that corresponds to my model number. And still nothing has changed. Only the backlight of the screen turns on. I contacted razer-support through the chat, they didnt help much, they told me i should send it back for repairs since warranty is still available. But there must be some sort of solution to this. I really hope this will be fixed asap...
So basically all we can do, other than wait until there are new windows updates/patches or new driver versions that solve this problem, is:
Change GPU mode to "NVIDIA Optimus" either in the BIOS or inside Synapse, which limits your refresh rate to 60Hz and therefore sucks very bad (but still better that screen off)
Or to revert the video card drivers to older versions (like for example 442.53)
Is there any way Razer gets notified about this being a problem, so that they can work on a solution???
Hi I have the RTX2070MAXQ version and a similar issue, see my post below. Will this work for me as well?

Has anyone had this issue, when my brand new 1 week old Blade Pro 17 is set to dedicated GPU only in Synapse the screen will not turn on unless the power cable is plugged in. The laptop is on but the screen is black, if I plug the cable in the screen turns on. If I set it back to Nvidia Optimus in Synapse the screen works without being plugged in to power.

I have contacted support but so far the suggestions of creating a new power plan, removing ACPI Compliant drivers and updating the GPU and Intel drivers have not worked.
