Razer Cortex Delayed Black Screen

I’ve seen this issue throughout the forums with different releases, but this is my specific black screen issue. The app opens like this, with a black frame that extends to my entire monitor, and when I click on the app, it turns fully black. I love Cortex, but I will be uninstalling until there is a fix. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app twice. I am on Windows 11. Sure would love for this to work!

And to be clear, this has nothing to do with HDR. I did not post this without examining that.

Hey there!

Thank you for sharing your issue with us here. My name is Michelle and I’m part of the Razer Cortex technical support team. I am delighted to be of your assistance.

To help you quickly resolve this issue on your side, could you please follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

  1. Exit Razer Cortex.
  2. Go to this directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer\Razer Cortex, and find a .json file called “appsettings”.
  3. Open the .json file “appsettings” with Notepad,.
  4. Use ctrl + F to find “EnableGPUAcceleration”, and change “"EnableGPUAcceleration": true” to be “"EnableGPUAcceleration": false”
  5. Save the changes of the “appsettings”
  6. Re-launch Razer Cortex to see if this issue persists.

If this issue persists after you disable “EnableGPUAcceleration”, please follow the steps below:

  1. Check in your Task Manager if “explorer.exe” is running with the below method:

    • Check if the process “explorer.exe” is running.
      • If not, please click on “File” > “Run new task”, input “explorer.exe” in the box and click OK. Launch Razer Cortex to see if this issue persists.
