Blade 17 - external monitor via USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 not working | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Just purchased this new Razer Blade 17. Connecting to an external monitor with a USB-C-to-display-port cable, and a straight display port cable. From either of the Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports. No signal detected from monitor. Whenever I plug in a monitor, NVIDIA control panel shows Optimus as the active graphics adapter. And the NVIDIA GPU becomes disabled and I'm unable to select. See screenshot.

I just used the Razer BIOS updater and updated the EC as well.

Model: (*Omitted)

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Same problem here. On support staff No. 3 and still not a hint of a solution. Seems like the Razer Blade 17 cannot run 3 external monitors for some reason. Great laptop however only bought for using external monitors so appears a complete waste of money
Using 2022 Blade 15 OLED 3070Ti here. Tried everything in this thread with no success. My cheapo HP work laptop has no problem on the exact same Razer dock though! This is what you get for $4k I guess. I feel horribly scammed. Move some of your devs from the flashing rainbow team to the usable product team.
Hey, everyone! I own a 2022 Blade 15 w/ RTX 3080 Ti.

Just chiming in to let you know that rolling back the Nvidia drivers to 512.95 fixed EVERYTHING for me:

  • Random stuttering on external monitors (via USB-C) is gone

  • Right USB-C working properly

  • Left USB-C now works at full capacity (via Thunderbolt 4 Dock)

  • External monitors no longer stuck/downgraded at 4K@30hz

  • Active Thunderbolt 4 cables now work as intended (full bandwidth instead of 4K@30hz)

Here's hoping Razer releases a proper fix for this one

----

Edit Sep 28: Game Ready Driver 517.48 finally fixed this issue!

Another edit: Dual external monitor setup is not possible for some reason. Only one external monitor supported. What the hell is going on.
Quick question to Razer support. Is there any progress on fixing this issue if not Razer plan replaceing the units that have this issue with the new 40xx gpu. This start to be annoying I will speak for everyone here we dont pay some less others more to have units that dont work as it should be. Razer as manufacture and warranty provider should fix this long time ago !
The new nvidia Geforce drivers are out:

Driver NVIDIA Studio 517.40 - WHQL Tue Sep 20, 2022

as far as I could try, they solved the problem for me (Razer blade 17 2022 - 3070 Ti).
Can confirm, newest Nvidia Studio Driver 517.40 fixes this!

If you have the (default) "Game Ready" driver installed, it will not update automatically, as of right now. Go to the nvidia site and download the studio driver version.

Nothing is solved or fixed. GameReady drivers are fiffrent then Studio this are two diffrent things. Studio drivers are forwork graphic or video production in short and focus on this things. Gameready drivers are more universal and focus more on games and performance and works perfect also for video or photo. I think this will help you understand the diffrence:

What is the difference between Nvidia studio and game ready driver?

If you are a gamer who prioritizes day of launch support for the latest games, patches, and DLCs, choose Game Ready Drivers. If you are a content creator who prioritizes reliability for creative workflows including video editing, animation, photography, graphic design, and livestreaming, choose Studio Drivers.

Do game Ready drivers actually improve performance?

"); display: inline-block; height: 24px; width: 24px; margin-top: -1px; transform: rotateZ(-180deg);">

In short, Game Ready Drivers grant the game engine boosted performance by allowing portions of it to access the operating system's kernel, giving it more direct access to the GPU. This can boost framerate, reduce latency, offer more consistent minimum performance, and enhance stability

p.s Today get new Windows 11 22H2 update. Windows now force reinstall the graphic driver to 516.54 and if you want dowgrade it again it's a pain in the a... So if someone will update the system remember to reinstall the drivers becose external monitor will dont work.

So you're saying the new Game Ready Drivers don't address the issue? This sucks, I've been stuck on these old drivers for months on my brand new machine. Complete oversight, and it's clear they aren't fixing it anytime soon as razer support hasn't been in this thread in quite some time. I do like your idea about new 40 series laptops though:big_grin_:, maybe that would make up for months of inexcusable "support" if you could call it that.

You pay a premium for Razer's quality and this is how you're treated. It feels like they know they already have the sale and no longer need to worry about us. New games coming out over the next few weeks and man oh man am I excited for tons of crashes due to my outdated drivers!

Seriously a bad look Razer.

This can be true if the issue was on drivers itself but in this case the driver have nothing to do with the problem. Next thing razer as manufacture of razer blade laptops buy gpu boards from nvidia and program them by self and if you see how the laptop is biuld gpu is part of motherboard becose is sotter to the motherboard. Eprom is chip where you have bios for motherboard dont know if mobile gpu have own or use the motherboard chip but see above gpu is part of motherboard and razer in warranty cover all factory parts of the laptop. Next thing becose of the issue is on dgpu that is sotter and the softwere is related to bios that is also development team or razer as a brand responcability to fix the issue that on side of manufacture they cant in legal way say nothing about this is fold of user and it is not covered by warranty. Next thing is warranty it self Razer have clear write there ifis problem cannot be removed custmer can replace the device for new but the same spec unit (in this case this cant be dont becose the problem is on all 30xx series cards), get money back or replace with he unit with simmullar spec this way write above about 40cc cards/ We see what happent in next two, three weeks but if there will be no respond when fix will be relased or fix it self dont appear for sure i will rise this case on my side to Consumer Onbudsman and even. Paying almost 5000 euro for half of device not an option in mean time like you can see every coustmer warranty is going forward and dont hold becose the only place when can be hold is aurozed repair center. This is clearly braking the coustmer rights.

I have my own thouthts about VIP respond team and it's not good ! Back to your post this is diffrent threat about diffrent problem but in your case they are right. Becose you you use third party charger they cant do anything why becose they dont know how it's was made, what paramets in real life this charger have, how it behave in diffrent situations etc. If you there will be diffrent respond if you use razer usb-c charger becose in the description you have there it support blade 14/15/17 snd ttheycantr tell you then yeah it's third party or your device is not supported. Next thing is cable becose blade no matter what always it come without any cable exept charger and you must buy own or some chargers/ monitors come with it. Cheap cable is always a bad move why becose you will have always some kind problem with cheap materials, expensive is not always the best you can buy so the best is buy medium price and most time if do not buy ffrom scamer you should be fine.

Hello, my computer is the same model as yours, the same, I can't find any bios update,I don't want Razer to just drop this model,They don't even open XMP and undervoltage to us.

Today I figure it out

At least it works on my comp. RZ09-0367; I should get a Nobel prize for this

On my monitor DELL U2719D I have 3 connectors; 2 display port and one HDMI. It only works if it is connected to display port next to HDMI. That’s it.

It just starts working.

I upgraded to the latest NvidiaStudio driver 517.40. It didn’t work, than I switch to another connector and it start working.

Try it and let me know if it works for you.
Thats fine for you but what should i do with studio driver?

My 4,300 Euro expensive Razer Notebook is a gaming monster so i need the latest(!!) Game Ready drivers. So, hey whats up, thats not a 800 Euro no name chinese Notebook.

Razer support should urgently clarify wheter this is a failure of nvidia or Razer itself. If its the latter then i will never buy a Razer Notebook again. I will sell it and switch to MSI, Lenovo or Alienware.

Either way, its embarrassing for a premium manufacturer. At least the purchase price was premium.
I didn't say that driver fixed the issue. I didn't try switching cables before driver update.

Just try switching connectors.

NVIDIA Game Ready Driver 517.48 apparently has fixed the issue. Probably might want to try it.

I can confirm! I updated to the latest driver just now on my Blade 2022 and it solved the problem for me
Have Razer Blade 17 2022.

Also wanted to confirm. Downloaded Game Ready Drivers 517.48 (9/27/2022 release) and the Window 11 update 22H2 (9/27/2022 release) and Thunderbolt to Display Port 1.4 is working. (Finally!)

Wanted to add that sometimes Display Ports can act "funny" and require a computer reset before the work.

Best of luck to all you Razer Blade users FINALLY using Display Port again!
UPDATE!

[Blade 15 & 17 2022] USB-C Port is unable to connect to external monitor after updating Nvidia Driver.

Issue: After updating to latest Nvidia Driver (later than 512.33), the USB-C Port will not work when connecting to external monitor.

Affected models:

Blade 17 2022 - Both USB-C Ports will not work

Blade 15 2022 - the right USB-C Port will not work. QHD 240Hz

Razer.Speedcr0ss
Update:

We have found that by updating to the latest NVIDIA driver (later than 512.33), the USB-C port will not work when connecting to an external monitor. Please check the following:

• The Blade 17 2022 | RZ09-0423x (both USB-C ports will not work).

• The Blade 15 2022 | RZ09-0421x (the USB-C on the right side will not work).

• For QHD 240Hz SKU, which supports Advance Optimus (the "Manage Display Mode" option in the NVIDIA control panel will not be present).

Razer is aware of this behavior, and the Support Team is tackling this issue and currently communicating with our developers. Our workaround is to perform a display driver rollback to 512.33, the same version in the Windows update. If the rollback button is grey out, uninstall the current driver and perform a Windows update check.

UPDATE!

bBlade 15 & 17 2022] USB-C Port unable to connect to the external monitor after updating Nvidia Driver.

Issue: After updating the latest Nvidia Driver (later than 512.33), the USB-C Port will not work when connecting to an external monitor.

Action: The fix is now available in Nvidia version 517.48 via the GeForce Experience. Please take note that it will not be available through Windows update.

Should you need additional assistance, please send me a ping or submit a case to our Support Team through this link.
