Razer BlackWidow Elite | Feel the Difference

Got mine today - yellow swtches - and at first was a bit worried. I tried the Logitech G513 a week ago and was devastated about the loud spring noise every single switch makes when released. I gave it 2/5 stars on Amazon (Germany) and another platform describing my experience and my disappointment.

Now the Razer Black Widow Elite has that, too, BUT...to a much lower degree. I'm able to directly compare it to my (failing) Corsair K70 Lux with Cherry MX Brown switches. They are much louder on their own, the switch "clicking" itself is louder, but the springs don't make a noise, not even a bit.

So this is definitely a thing and both companies should look into this. It seems there is still a difference between an age old company like Cherry who figured out these things over the past decades and a "newcomer" to the scene of custom switches like Logitech and Razer. Razer needs to work on it a little bit, more a matter of better quality in the future than a failed design, but Logitech needs to throw their Romer G switches into the trash and start from scratch with the design. Seriously, it is that bad! Unbearable!

That said I will keep the Razer. Like I mentioned, the spring noise is there, but barely noticable in everyday scenarios, even with the windows closed and no other sound source than my pc I have to put my head closer to the keyboards to clearly notice it. And the feel of the switches is definitely better, the overall quality of the keyboard is better and I love the customization (especially when it comes to keys and macros) with the software.

Good work Razer...but please look into the spring noise. It's a 180€ keyboard after all...
Sorry, I will add this to the original post: Yellow switches. And I'm not talking about the normal noise the switches make when you press them. Not the clicking. The springs, they...ring. A bit. Like I said, far less than with the crappy Logitech Romer G. But Cherry switches don't do this, at all.

We have to differ here between noise that is actually expected from a switch and accidental noise and I would definitly call the spring coil noise an unwanted side effect.

Any problems so far with Synapse 3?

I just have a Cyanosa Chroma wich work with Synapse 3 and i haven't had any problem so far.
I have the Razer Blackwidow Elite, Razer Deathadder Elite, and Kraken 7.1 V2 as my daily peripherals and I have no gripes or complaints about any of them. I also have a Lancehead TE that I've retired (still works fine). My other Razer Peripherals that I've had in the past include the Deathadder 3.5, Blackwidow 2013 (No LED, MX Blue switch model), Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2, Razer Tiamat 2.2, and Deathadder 2013. My Deathadder 3.5 and Deathadder 2013 had double click issue on left click and the Tiamat 2.2 has a short in the volume control. So I've been using Razer products since 2011 and I have some complaints but Razer has done the Blackwidow Elite right! The Blackwidow is a nice keyboard but felt like it didn't match up to other keyboards. Before the Elite model, it lacked proper volume controls and dedicated media keys. Now Razer has finally nailed it on the head with this keyboard and I have to say kudos to Razer for doing that and finally listening to their fans after all these years of requesting dedicated volume and media controls.
Thanks for explaining!!

Yep it does! There are magnets that hold it on, it stays in place well but also easily removed.

One of the greatest improvements with the mechanical switches this last years.
It looks so great.. But I can't get it with CH layout in orange switches.. Why would you lose easy customers ? I find it weird not to let any customisation to your products and no way to get what people want 😕 Since I prefer Razer look and feel, i ll wait a long time to try getting one like i want, but I guess I ll have to move on to something more suitable than this great brand...

I agree, that's truly a loss for me that I can't get it in orange switches in french layout.
Hello,

Are there any Razer Chroma compatible keycaps that have the special characters keys transparent?
I don't understand why Razer chose to make them opaque, it's a pretty big flaw when used in low lighting environment.
it's an amazing board - I bought two - One with Green switches and one with Yellow switches - Love them both -
Overall best mechanical keyboards I've ever used - and I own about 10 - 4 corsair K70's with various switches and 6 Razer boards
Corsair are now all gathering dust due mainly to the rattling space bars and crappy MX rattling Stabilizers.
the bad stuff on the new Razer boards is the low quality flimsy volume control - both my boards have faulty volume wheels .
the one is scratchy and feels like it scraping against something and the other one is inaccurate and jumps all over the place - - pity that Razer chose to put lucky packet level Volume wheels on their best boards to date -
I forked out $30 and got myself a Drok - lossless volume wheel from Amazon -
Overall I'm still happy with the Blackwidow Elite boards -
My suggestion for future Razer Keyboards
1. all Metal case - top and bottom
2.High quality volume wheel
3. lose the media buttons - they belong on a DJ deck - not a keyboard - they are pure gimmick trash - but if you do decide to keep them - at least make them mechanical - use the same switches as the rest of the board - not rubber dome
News update - I found out that I actually prefer smaller boards for many reasons - I've ditched using all normal keyboards with numpads and moved to a 75% keyboard as my daily driver
I'm now using a Vortex Race 3 and from the looks of things I'll never go back to a large board - in reality - what's the actual use of a numpad ? just takes up extra space -
Once I tasted the freedom of a smaller board with the extra space on the right for the mouse - it's very difficult to go back -
TKL is prob the biggest I'l ever go again
Also the quality of the Vortex race 3 is on another level altogether -
ALL METAL CASE- and price $140 ish - why would I want to use a large resonant unreliable Plastic box ever again - ?
An all metal TKL from Razer would be the only thing I'd consider in the future -
I/
I'm never throwing my money away to plastic boxes ever again

Sucks to be me. Just got a Blackwidow v2 with green switches. :slightly_sad:

why are u sad blackwidow v2 is still a beast

So, is this better than the Blackwidow V2. The naming is starting to get very confusing. Wasn't 'Elite' used for the lower tier products?

Also, no underglow? :frown_:
