PSA: Razer Phone & The Razer Kishi (Update 26/06)

Userlevel 7
Hey insiders!

I'm sure you've noticed the Razer Kishi is now officially out! You can pick yours up on Amazon or the Razer store now :)

Unfortunately the Kishi isn't compatible with the Razer Phone out of the box :slightly_sad:

However! Razer have made an adaptor for Razer Phone owners to use so they can get the best out of their Kishi!

Simply send the CS team a message and ask for the adaptor and they'll sort out getting one sent out to you!

Please let me know what you think of the Kishi below and any feedback you have about the app :)

Update: 26/06

Hey everyone

I just wanted to provide a little update in regards to these adaptors.

As a whole Razer support is just flooded! I know you're all eagerly waiting your adaptor I know how you feel i'm waiting too! but please give them time to process the request and for them to contact the relevant teams internally! remember the person you're talking too isn't the person who will be arranging the adaptor and are just middle men in the end! please be kind and respectful during these hard times.

Also as it turns out you can indeed insert a RP1 into the Kishi, I've done this myself and you can see in the picture attached how it looks.

Ok so seems like this thread is now unlocked so posting my update here as well:

I finally received the adaptor inserts for Razer Kishi which allows the Razer Phone 2 to fit into the Kishi (RP2 did not fit the original rubber inserts the Kishi comes with.) For me it took about a couple of weeks to get them so wasnt too bad.

The inserts for RP2 on the left vs the original stock inserts on the right.

The RP2 inserts have the RAZER logo on the back.

You can see the insert has a cut out allowing space for the camera portion which sticks out a bit.

The fit is really snug. (the analog stick covers are for Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons in case anybody was wondering)

So after a couple of hours of use. The fit is snug and there is no issue of either side wobbling during play which is good.

However.... and this is why I can see why Razer opted to drop out RP2 from list of supported phones maybe...

The inserts are a really tight fit... I would say way too tight... and it really squeezes down hard on the speaker grills. The problem is that the speaker grills are stuck on the phone with a glue like adhesive... Since the grip is so tight it presses down on the speaker grills and I think it squeezes out some of the adhesive which comes out of the small holes of the speaker grills, and after use there is a little bit of sticky gunk left on the phone. You can clean this off but its not a great user experience... Maybe the inserts need to be modded slightly allowing some slack so it doesn't press so hard on the speaker grills.

Having said that I still think Kishi is much more convenient and comfortable to use than the Junglecat, but due to it being too tight I may mod the inserts to have a bit more room for the RP2...

Hope this was useful!

Hi

what’s the best way to contact them? I sent a message via the store page contact us links but got no reply. I actually had pretty much the first Kishi in the U.K. via Amazon but had to return it due to the poor fit putting too much pressure on the USB socket on my RP2. Is there a way to order it along with the Kishi direct from Razer store please? Would be nice to not have to wait a week or two to use it!

thanks

Jonathan

ps yes I am happy to buy it again, plus it’s cheaper than I originally paid!

The email is the best way to go but with what's going on give it a day or so for them to get back to you.

To claim the adaptor you'll need to have the Kishi in hand and provide the device serial number to claim it.

I know it's not the best measure but at least there is a way to get it working with the Kishi.
Ugh! this sucks! I am contacting support team right now... hopefully to get some good news... was devastated when i try to fit my RP2 into Kishi today.. total disappointment... They should have a special option on there to check if the buyer have a Razer Phone or not... you know loyal customers??? So this way it would of save them time + Shipping fees... smh... the razer phone picture was even in the instruction book man.

UPDATE: I have successfully manage to get my grip ordered... HOWEVER!

Received my Kishi today and removed the rubber inserts to get my RP2 to fit. There's definitely some play between the phone and the controller but not to any degree that I feel concerned. Though, being slightly OCD it is more of an annoyance than anything because it just looks a little *off* when viewing from a side angle. That aside, it feels pretty solid and I've been enjoying some Yakuza 0 sessions via xCloud.

That said, I reached out to CS the day I ordered the device to get the special "kit". The rep said it needed to be escalated so a case was created and been crickets ever since.

I'll share any updates regarding the kit as soon as I have any but otherwise, I definitely recommend this device for either RP, with or without the special grips.

As it is for now, would you recommend me to wait for the razer kishi support or to look at the junglecat ?
I have a razer phone 1 and even if it can't work out of the box with both of them, at least with the junglecat i can print a 3d case.

I'd say it really comes down to personal preference since there are pros and cons with both devices. The Junglecat has native button mapping and bluetooth so if you plan to use emulators, play android games or connect to a PC these are definite pros. But, being that it's a wireless device there is potential for input lag and you need to make sure it stays charged. It's also pricier than the Kishi.

If you plan to use cloud gaming services like GeForce Now or xCloud then I'd definitely recommend the Kishi. Playing over xCloud I haven't experience any input lag, it's been very comfortable and the idea of pass through charging is great for long sessions.

I can't speak to the out-of-box experience with the RP1 but I imagine it will be very similar to the RP2, meaning, you shouldn't have any major issues. At least none that you apparently can't handle 🙂

Thanks got mine today! Took the stock rubber inserts off for now. Its more convenient as I feel its quicker to just put on the phone than the Junglecat.

Sweet! It's really not bad without them, right?

hey buddy, just want to say that in the end your positivity convinced me (you also got a fair point about cloud gaming services, i'm a stadia founder and i play a lot with it). I've just ordered the kishi for my rp1. As soon as it arrives i'll contact the support for the rubber inserts.

Thanks a lot, finger crossed!

Awesome! I don't think you'll be disappointed, it's been a great device and I'm sure Stadia will work really well. I played some xCloud games using an XBOne controller and I never really could get into using it with my phone. This Kishi has made all the difference for me personally.

I'll continue to provide updates when I hear from customer support but if anyone manages to get the new grips please share some photos and/or feedback.
Quick update, my kishi just arrived today. I've already spoken with the razer support (because as we already know rp1 won't fit the kishi with the stock rubber insert) and i'm waiting for further help.

Meanwhile, from a chinese TPU rp1 cover i had, i've created a home made rubber inserts, and it works like a charm.

Aside that, i love the kishi. Works like a charm with Stadia!
10/10 Worth the wait...

A thought...
Maybe they could add something to their websites sales page that gives an option for the R Λ Z Ξ R phone version.
That way, no one would have to go through extra steps. Or possible wait time, just to get it supported on their R Λ Z Ξ R device.

Yep it seems like extra wait and manual process for a product that isn't compatible with their main mobile product out of the box... Not great!

ohh noooo. that sucks since I ordered the kishi today and I have a RP2.... (I was going to get it since I probably sadly move onto a samsung eventually or even the red magic 5g though not sure if it fits the kishi...) its a shame.... real damn shame...

Kishi arrived today woop woop

Fits my OnePlus 8 grand (wants to take the screen protector off though) but as expected RP1 is a no go.

Hopefully the adaptors won't take long to get to people (and me)

Thanks for the post. Would you be able to share any pics if possible? No worries if not :)

I actually planned to get some pics up but didn't have time yesterday :smile_:

The attached images show how the right side is a little "off". I'm using a piece of slightly heavy weight paper to add support where the rubber would otherwise be if the rubber inserts were still installed. It definitely helps in keeping the overall feel a little more stable. The left side isn't as affected because of the camera bump.

I also received an update from CS:
"We are still working on your Razer Kishi rubber insert for your Razer Phone 2.
Please note that there would be a delay on the shipments for the rubber insert as we do not have the rubber inserts yet. Availability has not been confirmed but will update you once we have them."

I've seen this response elsewhere so I wasn't surprised. But like I said above, it's still totally usable and the extra support from the makeshift mod helps.

I can't contact RAZER, and can't find any way to chat with them. Bcoz I need a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) from them since FEDEX won't deliver until they will have one. It should have been delivered right now on my home but then FEDEX wants a MSDS form. They said I need to contact the RAZER to get a MSDS. But RAZER contact support will never be available EVERYDAY!!!! COME ON FEDEX, just deliver my Kishi and I'll even pay you another $100 if you want to. Please can you find me an agent?

I'll ask a staff member to reach out to you.
So after some back and forth with Support. I got a notification from FedEx that a package is incoming from Razer so it should be the rubber inserts for the RP2.

Will update once it arrives. 🙂
How about international buyers? I have my RP2 and I'm considering buying the kishi but I'm from Mexico ¿How can I get that adapter?
Thanks for the update @liljuny ! After about 4 weeks I finally received mine today and you're not kidding, it's a very snug fit. I haven't really had a chance to use it for any amount of time but I'll provide some feedback once I have.

Guys - i was so close to buying this then i saw a review saying it doesnt include the Octopus plugin that the Junglecat had come with it?

is this true? if there is no button mapping software then we are limited with the mobile games.

I can use it for moonlight and cloud gaming and obviously android games that support gamepad like asphalt etc -but most of the good ones now dont support gamepads

Really/ I already returned one Kishi and have still not had a reply to my customer services request from the store website about an adapter. Why ( as a loyal customer with multiple blades, accessories and devices) does it have to be so hard to like Razer's current product design choices!?

Could you post some pics of the adaptor and how it fits to the Razer Phone please? By the way are you talking about the Razer Phone 1 or 2 or both??

Am guessing it’s a set of replacement rubber pads for the inside of each end of the holder for the phone. I contemplated cutting mine to fit but opted to return it as would have voided any warranty chopping it up to fit!
