Hey everyone! I can't believe it has already almost been 4 months since this post came up and Chroma has come a long way since then! The Audio Visualizer is no longer an early build and the setup process is very simple, I've updated the steps below accordingly.

We really appreciate all the work our community developers have put in to push the potential of the Razer Chroma technology and our friend @CalcProgrammer1 has really done a solid job on the Audio Visualizer. This new Audio Visualizer gives you the freedom to customize the color scheme and tweak its amplitude so you are only limited by your own creativity. Did we mention it’ll not just react to your music, but also to game audio?

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version
  • Once updated, make sure that under your Chroma device > Chroma Apps tab, you have "Chroma Apps" turned on
  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer
  • Install the vc_redist.x86.exe file that comes together in the zip
  • Launch the Audio Visualizer and get rockin'

To those facing the "mfc140.dll is missing" issue
Download the Visual Studio Redistributable version "vc_redist.x86.exe"

As this is a very early build, it clashes with Advanced Configurator occasionally.
Change your effects to the default ones e.g. Wave, Spectrum Cycling. You can then launch the application and your keyboard/mousemat/mice will show a blank slate until a sound is played.

The visualizer bars are really low, anyway to fix that?
You can bump the bar's height up by increasing the amplitude or your volume (not too much please).

How do I get the colours like the ones in the video?
Adjust "Foreground Mode" to the colour scheme that you like. In the video, I used "Rainbow Inverse". You can also add a "Background Mode" should you like.

Does it react to any sounds besides music?
It takes your Windows sound input, hence any sound - including your games or movies!

Do I have to turn off Synapse?
Closing Synapse before launching the app will be the safest.

Keyboard goes black but it does not react to any audio
As the program is reliant on some limited functions by Windows, be sure that your volume is cranked up or adjust the "Amplitude" to a higher value (Try in the 500s or 1000s)

I can't get it to work due to misc reasons that we have yet to identify
I apologize for this, this was meant to be a beta build and I shared it earlier as I knew the video will get you guys psyched for the app! We are using your feedbacks to build a better experience.

While it may be tedious right now, we WILL be reducing the steps and processes in due time with Synapse and etc. That is on top of more product support. Hang in there!

Can someone give me the exact Numbers for each of the Options in the latest build, 1.13, so it looks like in the Video?

I tried 0 delay on the newer versions and yeah, it's screwed up like yours. Try 10-15ms delay. If it's laggy try connecting the keyboard via a USB hub. I have mine on a hub and it definitely responds faster on the hub than connected directly, all my Razer stuff does. Not sure if it's a USB controller issue or an SDK one.

Unfortunately I don't own a Blade Stealth. Keyboards are all different sizes due to key layout so I do them individually. The Blade Stealth has a pretty major layout change as well it seems compared to traditional desktop keyboards. I'm considering getting one but was going to hold off until the Core comes out at least, want a laptop for mobile gaming, not desktop replacement.

The keys are in different positions on the Blade Stealth. As developers, it's challenging to write code for this without the products to test on. We're working with Razer to find ways around this issue currently.

Hi,

For some reason my Chroma keyboard isn't picking up any sounds; the visualizer works because I can see the audio animation inside the black bar, but keyboard is holding on to pre-set Razer Synapse profiles ('Breathing' for example) even when I close Synapse. Isn't the keyboared suppose to turn all black (without lights) when you close Synapse? This frustrates me a lot because I really want this to work.

Anybody has a tip for me, how I can get a proper signal from the audio visualizer to keyboard? Thanks in advance

The visualizer is only x86. You need the x86 Visual C++ 2015 redistributable to make it work. Get that from Microsoft.

Already installed that, from the .zip Now, alas, no matter what I do, I can't get the actual program to run. Here's what happens:

I unzip the file. After I run the .exe, the .exe VANISHES and does nothing.

I see conflicting advice RE what to do RE Synapse. I have the absolute latest version, that includes the Workshop yes?

What am I doing wrong?

Yes installed the C++ thing for x86.

It does not work on Mac or Linux. It does work on Windows 7 and Windows 10, presumably 8 as well (not tested) and maybe Vista too.

Supported devices are Blackwidow Chroma, Mamba TE, and Firefly. Only other Chroma device I own is a Naga Epic Chroma and the SDK doesn't support it.

Here's my latest build (v1.03) which may fix some crash-on-open issues as well as has more foreground color options:

Okay this is super odd. I installed both the X86 and x64 thingies and restarted. When I download this new version and run it, the entire .exe just VANISHES from my machine, and nothing happens. What to do? Windows 10 btw.

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version

  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer

You no longer need to install any thing else besides what is listed there.

To be safe and have a clean slate (and the best chance of getting it to work)

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Remove Programs
  • Remove Razer Chroma SDK
  • Remove Razer Synapse
  • Download Razer Synapse and update it to the latest version
  • Follow the instructions above on how to set up the Audio Visualizer

Extract the .exe from the .zip. Windows does not like running .exe files directly from .zip and tends to delete the temporary files prematurely. I'd say just drag it to your desktop and then run it, or if you want to add custom options, drag it somewhere else and create a shortcut on your desktop.

No idea, I use Win10 64 as well with no issues. Try running as administrator maybe? Try downloading the exe from the link in my signature and use the latest version (1.13). Nothing in my code deletes itself. You might have something blocking execution for whatever reason. Does it show up in your virus scanner quarantine? What about recycle bin?

Ah I was beginning think it had something to do with the layout after I realized the Snake SDK was showing targets "off" the keyboard after a while 😛 Alrighty no worries!

I have this working on my Razer Blackwidow Chroma, which is great - but it only seems to work on half of the keyboard. It's as if it's starting from the bottom left hand corner, rather than the bottom as I'd expect. I've played with the various settings, but no idea what I'm doing - any suggestions?
