I have this working on my Razer Blackwidow Chroma, which is great - but it only seems to work on half of the keyboard. It's as if it's starting from the bottom left hand corner, rather than the bottom as I'd expect. I've played with the various settings, but no idea what I'm doing - any suggestions?
What frequency is your playback device set to? The code kinda relies on it being 44.1KHz due to sampling concerns. If your device is at 96KHz the frequency range will be twice as much and relevant frequencies will only account for 50% of the keyboard width.
Don't know if anyone has worked this out and posted it or not but I had the issue of my program showing the video of the lights flashing but nothing on my keyboard.

If you install the visualizer then uninstall synapse restart the computer then reinstall synapse and restart again the audio visualizer works.

You can set custom settings by making a shortcut and adding the parameters you want to set to the command line. All the available parameters are listed here:

https://github.com/CalcProgrammer1/KeyboardVisualizerVCUI/blob/master/KeyboardVisualizerVC/main.cpp

I have no clue how to do this.... Some help please? I use just the .exe visualizer

Thanks, which item in your sig folder should I be downloading?

Already trying to run as admin
Okay, on the latest build, my antivirus freaks out about a Sonar risk....??
HA. GOT IT. My Antivirus, even when in Sleep/gaming mode, was still borking out the program. You may want to check out why it's throwing a malware flag though.

THANK YOU. EXCELLENT item. Surprised that it even passes thru to my mouse AND the mouse pad! You rock.

EDIT: Any way that you can get the link to the absolute latest version to hit on the first page of this topic?

Bump. I can figure out how to make the edits of this doc, I think, but where does it live on one's drive in the first place? I would love to consistently keep my settings. Any help greatly appreciated. I, too, just use the visualizer. Thanks so much!

The visualizer exe can go wherever, just make a shortcut to it and put the shortcut on your desktop. Then right click the shortcut and select properties. You can add parameters at the end of the Target field separared by spaces. Available parameter names are listed in main.cpp on my github page (it's a bunch of printf lines) or it displays if you open from a command prompt and call the exe with the help option. As for the latest version my github page is the definitive source for updates. All new builds will end up in the release submodule as well as on the google drive link in the readme.
Does this work on windows 10? I have followed the guidelines, and installed the vc_redist.x86.exe file and ran the program after but nothing is happening. I can see the bars on the graph just nothing happening on my keyboard.

It was working on my windows 7 computer before but since I moved my blackwidow chroma keyboard and firefly mousepad to my windows 10 computer it has stopped working.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes it works on Windows 10. Try uninstalling Synapse and any installed Chroma SDK, rebooting, and then installing Synapse again.
all sdk apps are not working right now for me

Thanks for the quick reply. But I have done what you said and the program is still not working 😞
I have been having an issue. When the delay is set to 50 it shows up very laggy on the keyboard. The closest thing to what it used to be is 5. However when it is on 5 it has a visual bug where the right side of the keyboard is almost always lit up, even when the visualizer isn't showing anything on the right side. When I go lower than 5 it flashes white.

Also I haven't been able to get the shortcut with the options working, one exception being the startminimized works fine.

This is my shortcut setting
Target: "path-to-visualizer\\KeyboardVisualizerVC 1.13.exe" startminimized amplitude=2600 bkgd_bright=5 bkgd_mode=11 frgd_mode=1

Any help would be appreciated.
Anyway to get it to react to my secondary sound source? As it is now it only works when I use my optical out sound, but when I change to my headphones it dies 😞

Thanks, I'll play around with this and see what I can do...

Also, be sure to totally turn off Norton, not just "silent mode" it. That's what was borking my attempts. Had to add the .exe to safelist.

Found out what was wrong. I needed the x64 file installed too. It's missing in the file you provide us with, so I had to find it. Good thing I checked the more information tab in the Chroma Workshop, said I had to install the x64 file. Everything works fine now but thanks for the help.

Let your Razer Chroma-enabled devices rock to your beats with the beta Audio Visualizer, developed on the latest Razer Chroma SDK 4.8.

Fire off the colors not just on your Razer BlackWidow Chroma, but also on the newly supported Razer Mamba TE & Razer Firefly!

*EDIT* 19th January 2016
Hey everyone! I can't believe it has already almost been 4 months since this post came up and Chroma has come a long way since then! The Audio Visualizer is no longer an early build and the setup process is very simple, I've updated the steps below accordingly.

We’ll let the video du-du-du-du-do the showing:

We really appreciate all the work our community developers have put in to push the potential of the Razer Chroma technology and our friend @CalcProgrammer1 has really done a solid job on the Audio Visualizer. This new Audio Visualizer gives you the freedom to customize the color scheme and tweak its amplitude so you are only limited by your own creativity. Did we mention it’ll not just react to your music, but also to game audio?

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version
  • Once updated, make sure that under your Chroma device > Chroma Apps tab, you have "Chroma Apps" turned on
  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer
  • Install the vc_redist.x86.exe file that comes together in the zip
  • Launch the Audio Visualizer and get rockin'

Have a go at it and show us what you are doing with your Chroma hardware.

FAQs:

To those facing the "mfc140.dll is missing" issue
Download the Visual Studio Redistributable version "vc_redist.x86.exe"

As this is a very early build, it clashes with Advanced Configurator occasionally.

Change your effects to the default ones e.g. Wave, Spectrum Cycling. You can then launch the application and your keyboard/mousemat/mice will show a blank slate until a sound is played.

What products does it work with? *EDIT*
It works with...

  • BlackWidow Chroma / TE
  • DeathStalker Chroma
  • Firefly
  • Diamondback
  • Naga Chroma/Naga Epic
  • Mamba TE/Mamba wireless
  • Orochi
  • DeathAdder Chroma
  • Tartarus Chroma
  • Orbweaver Chroma
  • Kraken 7.1 Chroma

The visualizer bars are really low, anyway to fix that?
You can bump the bar's height up by increasing the amplitude or your volume (not too much please).

How do I get the colours like the ones in the video?
Adjust "Foreground Mode" to the colour scheme that you like. In the video, I used "Rainbow Inverse". You can also add a "Background Mode" should you like.

Does it react to any sounds besides music?
It takes your Windows sound input, hence any sound - including your games or movies!

Do I have to turn off Synapse?
Closing Synapse before launching the app will be the safest.

Keyboard goes black but it does not react to any audio
As the program is reliant on some limited functions by Windows, be sure that your volume is cranked up or adjust the "Amplitude" to a higher value (Try in the 500s or 1000s)

I can't get it to work due to misc reasons that we have yet to identify
I apologize for this, this was meant to be a beta build and I shared it earlier as I knew the video will get you guys psyched for the app! We are using your feedbacks to build a better experience.

While it may be tedious right now, we WILL be reducing the steps and processes in due time with Synapse and etc. That is on top of more product support. Hang in there!

  • Having troubles with Norton stopping the download of the Keyboard Visualizer file, after I installed vc_redist.x86.exe file. Should I not try this if Norton is saying it is unsafe or is it a safe program to have on my PC? If so, how do I download it without Norton stopping it?

Create an exception to allow the item to run. I had to do that, and as the version I have installed is supported by Razer, I feel OK doing this.

Do you happen to know how to allow it to run or disable Norton temporarily?

Sure. If it throws up the warning when you try to install it, depending upon the version of Norton that you are using, there should be a "properties" box or other advanced prompt for a dialogue box. From that you can allow the item to run once, or create a permanent exception for it.

If you posted a screenshot of your Norton message that may help.

Note that you can always temporarily disable Norton although it's not a great idea.
I was able to get it working just fine! I just put it on silent mode for like 5 mins and I was able to run the file and then I created an icon for it and I manually approved it with Norton and then turned Norton back on. So it's all good! Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

Happy to help! BTW this should now also show up in your Chroma Apps in Synapse.
Can anyone help me with this? When I try to install the sdk v1.2.4 when I hit run it just flashes up and goes away. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks

You don't need to manually install the SDK. If you have, I'd recommend uninstalling it as well as Synapse, rebooting, and installing a fresh copy of Synapse from Razer's site. Synapse auto-detects what devices you have and installs modules for them and it will install the latest SDK automatically and show access to it under the "Chroma Apps" menu option.
