Rock your Razer Chroma devices with the Audio Visualizer

Let your Razer Chroma-enabled devices rock to your beats with the beta Audio Visualizer, developed on the latest Razer Chroma SDK 4.8.

Fire off the colors not just on your Razer BlackWidow Chroma, but also on the newly supported Razer Mamba TE & Razer Firefly!

*EDIT* 19th January 2016
Hey everyone! I can't believe it has already almost been 4 months since this post came up and Chroma has come a long way since then! The Audio Visualizer is no longer an early build and the setup process is very simple, I've updated the steps below accordingly.

We’ll let the video du-du-du-du-do the showing:

We really appreciate all the work our community developers have put in to push the potential of the Razer Chroma technology and our friend @CalcProgrammer1 has really done a solid job on the Audio Visualizer. This new Audio Visualizer gives you the freedom to customize the color scheme and tweak its amplitude so you are only limited by your own creativity. Did we mention it’ll not just react to your music, but also to game audio?

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version
  • Once updated, make sure that under your Chroma device > Chroma Apps tab, you have "Chroma Apps" turned on
  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer
  • Install the vc_redist.x86.exe file that comes together in the zip
  • Launch the Audio Visualizer and get rockin'

Have a go at it and show us what you are doing with your Chroma hardware.

FAQs:

To those facing the "mfc140.dll is missing" issue
Download the Visual Studio Redistributable version "vc_redist.x86.exe"

As this is a very early build, it clashes with Advanced Configurator occasionally.

Change your effects to the default ones e.g. Wave, Spectrum Cycling. You can then launch the application and your keyboard/mousemat/mice will show a blank slate until a sound is played.

What products does it work with? *EDIT*
It works with...

  • BlackWidow Chroma / TE
  • DeathStalker Chroma
  • Firefly
  • Diamondback
  • Naga Chroma/Naga Epic
  • Mamba TE/Mamba wireless
  • Orochi
  • DeathAdder Chroma
  • Tartarus Chroma
  • Orbweaver Chroma
  • Kraken 7.1 Chroma

The visualizer bars are really low, anyway to fix that?
You can bump the bar's height up by increasing the amplitude or your volume (not too much please).

How do I get the colours like the ones in the video?
Adjust "Foreground Mode" to the colour scheme that you like. In the video, I used "Rainbow Inverse". You can also add a "Background Mode" should you like.

Does it react to any sounds besides music?
It takes your Windows sound input, hence any sound - including your games or movies!

Do I have to turn off Synapse?
Closing Synapse before launching the app will be the safest.

Keyboard goes black but it does not react to any audio
As the program is reliant on some limited functions by Windows, be sure that your volume is cranked up or adjust the "Amplitude" to a higher value (Try in the 500s or 1000s)

I can't get it to work due to misc reasons that we have yet to identify
I apologize for this, this was meant to be a beta build and I shared it earlier as I knew the video will get you guys psyched for the app! We are using your feedbacks to build a better experience.

While it may be tedious right now, we WILL be reducing the steps and processes in due time with Synapse and etc. That is on top of more product support. Hang in there!

Got my Blade Stealth! It's amazing! The audio quality from the speakers is quite impressive for its size, so adding a visualizer will make this an excellent music laptop.
HI
I have A Razor Mamba TE, Blackwidow Chroma and a Firefly and for some reason when i go to start up Audio visualizer it only works on my Firefly. i have used it on just the keyboard and it works fine but when I plus in the mouse and Firefly it only seems to work on the Firefly.
I have gone through all the possible things that could maybe make that happen, by disabling the Chroma apps and re-enabling it, by restarting my PC unplugging and plugging my devices back in.
I don't know what can be causing this.
Please could one of you geniuses help me
Thanks in advance
Matt

Is the Razer Blade Stealth keyboard supported? In the app it says it is, but then here it isn't on the list, so I'm confused.

@CalcProgrammer1 has only just got his Stealth this week, so it may not be fully support yet until he's had chance to test it.

@CalcProgrammer1 may be able to help with this.

The fact it works fine on the keyboard by itself until you plug everything else in and then only works on the firefly, is an odd one. It could be one of many different issues.

  • Using an old version of the visualiser. Make sure you're using the latest.
  • Out of date drivers. Make sure you've fully updated synapse. You may need to uninstall synapse and reinstall
  • Not enough power? Really shouldn't be an issue though unless you're PC is powering a lot of things at the same time.
Build 1.15 on my GitHub supports it. Try that out. Link in my signature then click Releases.
It's dont working on win 10! Can you help me?
Is it supposed to work with windows 10?
this sounds really cool but sadly i have no chroma devices

It should definitely work with Windows 10. 🙂
Is anyone else having issues getting the Audio_Visualizer.exe from http://www.razerzone.com/chroma-workshop#chroma-apps to run? It downloads fine, and then I launch it but nothing happens.

Edit: Actually it appears to now say "This app can't run on your PC (To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.)"

I'm using Windows 10
It is giving me this little error:

Same thing here--which is a bummer because I literally just bought a Firefly and Black Widow after seeing the Audio Visualizer demo (which is now plastered all over all the Razer Chroma product pages).

I'm assuming anyone with Windows 10 is out of luck for the time being?

Yeah, I can't get it to work w/ Win 10.

Get on that Dev Team ❤

Did you install the VC2015 runtime for x86? That is required for it to run. Once that's installed it works fine on W10.

Yep, still doesn't work 😕
Not sure what to tell you:

Resolved my issue by doing 2 things:

1. Installed x64 version of VC2015 (already had x86 version installed prior to initial attempt)

2. Ran the Keyboard Visualizer 1.15 downloaded manually off Calc's github page since trying to run the Audio_Visualizer.exe off http://www.razerzone.com/chroma-workshop#chroma-apps resulted in the error message Thilyon was receiving above:
https://gyazo.com/7ee6598e11be2f20d5a72218a7ff6b62

As an aside, while the visualizer appears to run perfectly on my Firefly, it doesn't appear to have any affect on my Naga Epic Chroma (which I was under the impression this newest build supported).

Anyway, receiving my Black Widow sometime next week, can't wait to try this out--thanks Calc.

Look at this video I made:

Also I just posted 1.14 on GitHub, it fixes the command line and also has LED strip support. Still waiting to hear back from Mark about getting a Blade Stealth discount, but he said he will probably be able to get me one. If so then I'll definitely be getting one and adding support in my visualizer.

If you're having issues with devices not responding, this is an SDK issue. The best thing to do is to uninstall Synapse and SDK and reinstall them from scratch with the latest installer from Razer's site. Make sure to reboot after uninstalling before you install it again.

Managed to get it working, soldered to pin 6 instead of D6 lol, but the video was very helpful! Thanks for the help!
Uhh I just got this today and it works fine with my keyboard, great by the way! But for some reason my Razer Naga Epic Chroma doesn't seem to want to tag along, it just keeps on with what it was already doing, I.E. spectrum cycling. Thanks!
Wireless devices are only supported in wired mode. It's a Razer SDK limitation.
Is it supposed to show up in your apps list in Synapse? Cause it isn't, even after synapse has chroma apps enabled and the app installed...

*sigh*
I have discovered a cure! I had to reinstall Synapse, then reinstall the audio visualizer. Thanks for any past assistance given ❤
Either I'm going crazy (which is completely possible) but I can't find the link for v1.15..

Thanks
