Razer Cortex keeps crashing/rebooting my PC :( | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Ever since installing the latest Cortex version 3 days ago, my PC would randomly crash (reboot) with a blue screen error. After uninstalling Cortex my PC has since remained stable. I'd really like to have Cortex installed, as I like its features. But until Razer can fix the crashing with it I'll have to do without.

Hi rambler358, sorry to hear what you encountered.

To analyze this issue, we need your help getting the dump files. Please upload the dump files to services like Dropbox or Google Drive and paste the link here in the forum.

Okay, I'm kind of a noob at some PC tech stuff. Where would I locate the dump files, and are there specific files I need to upload? Thanks!
Okay, after some research I figured out the dump file thing. What kind of memory dump file are you looking to see (Small, Kernal, Complete, Automatic or Active)?

Hi rambler358, please find the ones that are close to when the BSOD happened in the directory

%SystemRoot%\\Minidump and send to us for analyzing.

Thank you,
I have a couple of minidump files, both from today as I just recenty had time to reinstall Cortex. Here's the link, let me know if you can't access for whatever reason. Thanks!

https://www.dropbox.com/home/Logs
I just uploaded another minidump file to the DropBox link above from a BSOD that occured right after booting up Windows about 20 minutes ago.

I just tried the link from your last post but got an error saying "The folder "/Logs" doesn't exist." Can you check and see what's going on?

Thank you.
Okay, I don't think it was set to shareable. I haven't really used DropBox that much. Can you try this link instead?

It's working now. The engineers are looking at the logs. Let's give them some time.
Thank you!
what was the solution to this? I have the same issue.

The PC does not reboot, but it just freezes up and i cant do jack but hard reboot manually - cant remote into it either.....i would bet its something to do with the new Win 10 update breaking Cortex and they need to release a fix.....please confirm?

No solution as yet. Razer Synapse and Cortex have both been updated since. Since the update, my system freezes rather than re-booting now with Cortex installed. But I'm thinking there may be a conflict with Cortex and the ThermalTake RGB Plus software that's controlling my fans.

I have now removed Cortex - TBH it didnt make any difference to my gaming experience anyway.

I dont think it is anything to do with 3rd party software, more likely a Windows 10 feature that is not compatable with the new update....why they would release an update without testing it on every build of win 10 first is beyone me
Cortex is set to boost automatically when I start any game. More recently COD: Warzone has been seeing Directx error and freezing and kicking me out of the game. I have found a way to recover from this when it happens but when I close out of COD and Blizzard, cortex tries to undo the automatic boost from when I entered the game and everything goes haywire and normally gets stuck in the dark zone or restarts with a fault code on my motherboard.

I am trying to fix this issue as we speak. Have yet to find a solution 😞. Have you been able to get Cortex to display the FPS and log through their app at all? All my Cortex shows is what time and how long I played the game when I launch through Cortex.

I completely uninstalled Cortex and Chroma. I'm not sure what was going on with it but after disabling xbox game bar and uninstalling Cortex and Chroma, I haven't had any issues. I also downloaded OBS to use that instead for recording.

I'll give that a shot and see how it goes.

Did you use the beta cortex?

I tried that after it all started happening and didn't see any change.

Do you have battle.net installed also? Can you confirm what your launch directory/file is showing; if it's the modern warfare launcher.exe or modern warfare.exe if that makes sense.

I have not experienced this issue but Cortex seems to have completely disabled my Nvidia Control Panel as well as my Geforce Experience.
The PC does not reboot
Having similar issues, Cortex causes PC to Freeze, disables all desktop applications from opening, prevents all restore options almost rendering PC to Brick status. Removed Cortex and no issues.

I was having the same issue with cortex crashing my system. Only fix was to block cortex starting with windows. I can have Razor central running with synapse but as soon as Cortex is running I'm back to blue screen hell and random resets.
Why hasn't Razor done anything to respond. From what I've seen they don't back up their products at all. Just another of the do nothing after the sale companies.

At least I have choices.
Hi Oldkight and Fatuba,

We are sorry to hear what you guys experienced. Our dev team is trying to dig out the cause of such an issue.

It would be very helpful if we can get your help getting some logs for investigation.

Please download and unzip the file and run LogCollector.exe from here, then fill out the Description, then click Output button. There will be a zipped file generated on your desktop with all logs needed.

Please upload the logs to services like Dropbox or Google Drive and paste the link here in the forum.

Thank you in advance for your help.
