For me, my fans were turning on and off randomly and they sounded like sitting next to some airliner thats how loud they got. Because I just got the laptop, I had not really installed anything on and I was doing light web browsing, and the way fans were responding made no sense so I could only imagine if I started gaming on it.

Fair point. For me, as I wrote before, I updated the bios to 1.06, changed some power options and turned turbo boost off and these things made some difference but it could be better.
Either way I hope they fix it soon if it's a software issue

Why would you return it though? There's quite a lot of us that have this problem, even someone that has had their blade for 2 years and just recently noticed that the fans go louder than before. It must be some sort of software problem

I had the same exact problem you had and they gave the same exact response. I sent them the video and in response I was told to return the laptop I bought (I bought mine on January 1st and just returned it today)
btw I did all the firmware updates, bios updates and the steps the Tech support asked me to do. Nothing helped.

This is what happened so far with my support-mailing with razer:

First you need to fill in a long list of info, and also attach 3 different files and screenshots from nvidia version numbers and other.

A few days later they asked me ( I guess they dont believe me by word) to send a video where I need to film the laptop to show that the fans are triggered.

I got mine as well recently (Base model 2020 RTX 2060), updated bios to 1.06 and I don't know if there is any difference. I also noticed that whenever the laptop is plugged in the fans go louder and more frequently. Any updates from Razer? Do we know if it's a hardware or a software issue?

I also found this, which might help with the fans whenever the laptop is plugged in:
https://www.myfixguide.com/laptop-fan-always-on/
So i just received mine aswell, even at the first bootup the fans were going - annoying as F to say the least....
Dont know what to do right now - i kinda need a beast machine for study (3D and so on) but this is going to be annoying as f in class.
Anyone heard anything from Razer support?

Update:
I have updated the BIOS from 01.04 to 1.06, as a result:

  • fan noise comes less frequently when doing non-gaming related tasks
  • fan noise is more tolerable when it does get triggered

Link for the BIOS update is:
http://drivers.razersupport.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view&parentcategoryid=350&nav=0

Another issue is, post playing games the fan noise takes a while to die down. If you want to quickly reduce/get rid of the noise, the work around is to:

  • Open synapse -> Performance tab
  • Switch to manual fan control (Mind you regardless of the dial it will rev up like a jet engine. Let it be for about 5 seconds)
  • Switch fan control to auto. (the noise should then gradually go down)

From my perspective, this is tolerable for a gaming laptop. I just wish that razer would update their software to hand us back a much needed manual fan control. I am still on the fence whether to return the laptop though. I will keep you guys updated.

Thank you for your contribution. Personally, I had already done these tasks.

I am experiencing the same issue. The noise during web browing use just comes and go. I have raised a support ticket to razer. I will let you guys know if there is a quick fix.

Thanks for your message.

Actually, I agree with one of OP's posts here. When I use Synapse to control the fan noise, it's actually worse because the fan will literally never turn off or even go below 50%. The "Auto" fan setting in Synapse (the default) is the best, but it still ramps the fan up and down super hard any time the system goes over 50C - which is frequently.

try to stop razer synapse , I have this problem but When I stopped the program, the fans' sound was normal

Fans still on all the time for me... 😕
Yeah this fan noise is pretty severe. It's actually so debilitating I can't watch movies or work in public on it (and by work I mean answering emails and using word). The right fan has a higher pitch whine to it than the left too. It would be good to get that fixed.

You didn’t have to change anything? I will try this too and report back. Thanks for the tip!

That did the trick. I reenabled Turbo Mode in the bios and booted. The fans came back on like before. I exited from the Synapse app and heard the fans slowly wind down. Now it's quiet and I have Turbo enabled as I should. I guess we can chalk this up to the Synapse application. Hoping the next update to it fixes this... Thanks for the tip!

Interesting! Can you please tell me how to find the turbo boost settings, i cant get to it in bios? :smile_:

Reboot and hold the Del key down. This will take you into bios. I forget the menu name exactly, but It will be related to CPU. I just turned off turbo boost and left everything else default. Make sure you Save and Exit. GL!

Hi, I recently purchased a Razer Blade 15 Base Model, that I received yesterday (thank you Amazon). Very nice machine, but I have a problem. The fans are very often active. They are not at their maximum speed, but they trigger for minimal functions such as open web browser, go on youtube, etc... Even my old PC, much less powerful, didn't make any noise when I performed such tasks.
The only time the fans stop is when I'm not doing anything. But you don't do nothing when you have a beast like that in your hands.

The noise of the fans is exhausting in the long run, and I wish I could fix this problem. I checked the task manager and the CPU does not exceed 10%. I tried to change the fan speed manually with Razer Synapse, but it makes the situation worse. I also tried softwares like Notebook Fan Control, SpeedFan, etc... but nothing change. I contacted Razer customer service but they did not provide a solution.
I specify that I did all the Windows updates, drivers (NVIDIA, Intel,...) and even the BIOS update.
If you've ever encountered a similar problem, and you have ideas on how to fix it, I would be grateful to you.
Thank you all.

I just got my early 2020 15" base model and "fixed" the issue by first confirming all fan profiles in Synapse were set to auto - they weren't initially. Then I went into the bios and disabled Turbo Boost. That finally worked for me.

Before disabling Turbo Boost in the bios, changing the fan profiles in Synapse did nothing at all to the fan speeds; they just kept whirring away and were quite irritating. I also tried adjusting the Control Panel\\Hardware and Sound\\Power Options\\Edit Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings. Under the Balanced profile (which is my active profile), I changed the Processor power management > Maximum processor state > Plugged in to under 100% (99, 98, 97, etc). These adjustments also had no impact.

With fan noise gone, they did fire up when playing GTA5 which is completely expected. The question is if I should have to live without ALL the features I paid for? I guess I have 29 days to figure that out. I created a ticket with support yesterday.

I have this exactly same issue. Very disturbing noise all the time except when on battery. What concerns me when googling I find the same issue from Razer blades years ago so Razer probably doesnt give a shit.

I've had a Razer Blade 15 2060 for almost 2 years. It recently starting having loud fan noise. I wonder if it's a bug or something. Very annoying.

This actually worked for me lol

Hi i have the same laptop and the advance. Its very easy to "Fix" this issues , Launch Synapse> System>Perfomance>Fan Speed>Auto. That is hehe

I just bought this laptop and I love it so much... I really don't want to return it. I wish I saw your post before I did. I literally just took it out of the box and opened up internet explorer and it started making a loud vacuum noise... I knew I was in trouble. But I am kind of relived that you said that there will probably be a update soon and that it's not a hardware issue. I hope that the noise of the fan doesn't pick up in my discord calls or while im streaming... :slightly_sad:

If the noise will be an actual problem for you, I recommend that you place a support ticket immediately and don't wait for an update. You would want to switch to a different device.

This amount of noise for simple operation (open web browser) is considered abnormal in this industry.

I was curious and sought reviews of this product. The noise is never mentioned. We either have defective units or Razer has screwed something up. I'm personally living with it but I'm not using this device near a microphone.
