Razer Synapse new update broke Razer Blade 15

Userlevel 2

Razer new update 3.8.531.52615 made the Razer Blade 15 has an error where the system is not receiving adequate power to enable high performance mode even though the laptop still works fine.

Gpu still kick in when gaming and the laptop still receving power, charging fine (using orignal power supple) so right now it just a false error that lock you out of choosing performance mode for no reason.

I also reinstalled window and when it first boot up, razer synapse was working fine, no error. But after it is updated, the error came back

Don’t know if this helps anyone but make sure you are running your laptop without any docks or anything that might have power-through USB-C - and only run your laptop on the Razer Charger. (to troubleshoot)

I’m dealing with the same problem and have the latest updates, but I noticed I was getting this issue for two reasons:

  1. Either the laptop is deciding the USB-C is primary for power supply...or
  2. There is an issue with the charger/connection

After quite a few tries where the laptop did not recognise the charger even though everything pointed at it being in working order I got it to connect/charge constantly (so far) but when it gets to 100% windows keeps switching the icon from “on battery” to “Plugged in” and I can see the key lights reacting to that (so not just an animation issue). *Windows11

**by got it to connect I mean simple stuff. Left the battery to drain a bit and then charged it from the USB-C after which I performed a couple of restarts on both my OS that are on the machine.

Finally they have fixed it in the latest update. But it took a while :3

Last update fixed that problem on my razer blade15 base. I contacted Razer support on twitter and support guided me to try 2 options but it didnt worked and he wated from me to send invoice from the purchaše, regardless of the fact that I registered the purchase on this page... i hope that the update will fix the error for you too

Update: Assumed mine was fixed since the error message went away with a factory reset. I was mistaken, the issue is still there and the error messages just go away until you install cortex again.

At this point I have;

  1. Completed the F9 factory restore 3 separate times and run benchmarks each time.
  2. Downloaded a NEW factory recovery image from Razer support and installed twice.
  3. Checked power delivery with HWinfo and other software (All check out good)
  4. Attempted Windows 11 upgrade after resetting to Windows 10 to see if that would help.
  5. Purchased a new 230w power supply.

This seems to be some sort of BIOS issue with how the power is perceived internally for the GPU. I am sure others have had performance gimped they just don’t know it if they don’t have cortex delivering the error messages or compare benchmarks.

@Razer.Speedcr0ss please have a look and pass to developers. Not all the machines got fixed after update. Including me

At this point all I can say is that I will not be purchasing another Razer device ever again. This was my 10th Razer branded laptop and the issues over the years have progressed exponentially with hardware and software failures. No with this one being a complete software / BIOS failure and a $3000+ PC that is essentially  a paperweight at this point I AM DONE. This is the type of failure that results in mass litigation & class action suits (Apple for example). Over a month with no fix, for a software update they released… F’ing REALLY?

I've got the same message a week ago.

- Yes, when know that we broke your amazing laptop and work station but we don't know when we can fix it because it's quite complicated. Someday you'll get the update with fix. For now we are closing your ticket because so much open tickets are bothering us and if supervisor will check we would have problems. Bye!

Having the same issues, as well as having the new Synapse update make my trackpad and mouse freeze every minute or so. As a software developer myself, I would be getting chewed out severely if I ever pushed out code like this.

New update 20230731. The issue persists on Blade 17 2022. How we can open a case against the company? Are any lawyers here?

So after reading through all the messages I have from Razer support what appears to be happening is that the logic behind Synapse performance modes is checking the hardware and those of us that have “230W” power bricks are being handicapped. Since ALL the new Razer Blades come equipped with 280W & 330W power adapters the logic has those listed as the adapters required for the “Performance” modes.

Essentially this is what Apple did as planned obsolescence years ago with there iPhone battery's and lost a multi million dollar class action suit. As of now myself and a few others have sent this info to Linus Tech Tips & Gamers Nexus to do a story on this because it affects anyone who purchased a Razer Blade with a 230W power brick.

2022 advanced 15, facing the same problem, thought it was my power brick that went bad, but after receiving brand new 230w one i still have the message popup and no ability to swith to power mode, no software reset/win reinstall helps, this is frustrating to the brim

Interesting to remark that after unplugging the charger system lets you choose power modes, but the moment you plug the thing in everything greys out

Considering the last post:

Is it possible to use 280w brick on the models that came with the 230w one? I dont seem to see any other solution since problem is there for 6 mo already and nobody seems to be interested in fixing it -_-

Razer contacted me over the issue and they were going to charge me for the repairs. They agreed I would just pay for any parts needed and I sent the laptop in. They had it a month and said it was a bad battery, then shipped it back to me. I took it out of the box, booted up, and ran benchmarks. Same issues, nothing fixed just wasted a month of time dealing with the worst customer service known to mankind. Until they fix whatever they did in the BIOS the PCs are just trash that preform at 30-40% at best.

I sold mine on eBay and purchased a new Lenovo Legion and honesty it kills the Razer at gaming and performance so the rest of you should probably think about doing the same.

Does anyone have a solution, I have a razer blade 17 2022 and the same message appears, I bought another 230w charger and the same message still appears. Reinstall the operating system, update the Bios, but the problem remains. Has anyone tried a 280w charger if this works?

I too still have this issue, incredibly frustrating when you invest so much in this system

It’s good to find this thread to validate others are having the same issue.

I currently have a case open with Razer about this but it has been slow progress going through the motions.

My setup:

  • Monitor connected to Razer Blade 17: System Model    Blade 17 (2022) - RZ09-0423 via an upstream Thunderbolt 3 (TB3 - USB‑C) port for host (with 96W host charging PD)
  • Official supplied in the box 280W power adapter connected. (@FresshAirJADEpoly496, I hope this helps you)

Razer blade 17 power capping issue charger + thunderbolt external display (youtube.com)

Here is a video of the issue. The laptop will power throttle constantly when plugged into an external display. You don’t even need to be running something as demanding as CAD software, you can literally just open up a file explorer. I just find that I can reliably trigger the behavior when moving a 3D object around so doing this is easy to film for support.

Realistically, plugging a laptop into an external screen is a basic workflow. If this doesn’t work then the laptop isn’t really fit for purpose.
