I’m not quite sure about what improvement comes with bios 1.06 and 1.07 since it doesn’t state anything in official website, when I’m not wrong some dude in Reddit saying it for addressing webcam issues. Since I don’t have coil whine or webcam issues I’m good. Note there’s several coil whine type some are annoying and some are not, for example in my case i can bring (make it louder and noticeable) coil whine, by using gaming mode, Fans auto, and connecting with External Monitor (means you’re using dgpu (hdmi and DP connected directly to dgpu) with max cpu tdp on idle where fans are inactive, so buzzing coils whine noticeable, especially in quite room...but who use gaming mode on idle or light works lol), and there’s also annoying coil whine like Morse code...kind of.
Bios update may also address coil whine, not quite sure on 2018 model but on stealth 2019, apparently it fixed or reduced the coil whine.
Fore more details maybe you should contact support, provide them your coil whine video and ask if bios update can address it, FYI apparently 1.06 Bios and 1.07 can be provided by support as well. Note as well once you update the bios you can’t revert to previous Bios version.

Mine is not GPU connected , i hear the whine in idle undervolt,no turbo 🙂 its not monotone , its changes and when move mouse also changes ,i am not sure it is CPU connected or just some coil on the motherboard....yeah mostly i am with headphones or tv working around and i dont hear the whine, but its a little tempting to try update the bios...but same time i am scared 😃 There is post on reddit that some ask for this and support ask him to connect for the bios update , i write there , and support also contact me , maybe they will send mi link to the new bios , but i am not updating for now...maybe i will wait someone with Blade 2018-19 to confirm its helped... 😃

Forgive my ignorance but if I run games at a lower resolution or setting, then the temps will be that much better?

Yes,

But even on Low settings im still hitting the occasionally (every 10-15 mins or so) 91-92. sometimes it does jump to 100C/

tried with lowest settings on BF4. For Diablo i lowered the physics, clutter, and anti-aliasing and i only hit 90-91 couple times while gaming. Even for Diablo I may have to lower the graphics even more.

I will be configuring other games as well to make sure it doesn't run too hot. I'll inform on here if you guys think is useful.

Edit: its such a beautiful labtop. I love it, I'm worried about it like its my child though.
Yes its that video that's me thinking. Especially about the heat spreading.

I agree but for me, its more about lowering the heat. While I don't have a RB15 yet, I'm looking at what steps I can perform to lower the temps, so if they're in the 80c, I'd like to see what options I have to push them down to 70c.

Playing monopoly or solitaire, maybe you’ll get 70c, Kidding;) You can lowering max processors state on power option like to 80 or 70%, i think you’ll get lower cpu temperature but with lower cpu performance as trade off. Low 80ish is okay on long term usage. I saw Razer support even said over 90 is okay, but not for me, and I won’t also opening my Blade, maybe in the future for upgrade only.

Ran 'Forest' (horror/survival game) and it hit mid 90s - 99/100C even on low settings.

What is considered 'long term' usage lol.

Playing on low setting won’t help cpu temperature down it’ll maybe even increase it because the FPS will be more and cpu have to rendering things more. Especially on such open world games. Limiting performance like disabling turbo boost or limiting FPS will help better. Or you can’t just go back to under 100ish FPS;) It’ll be better for lifespan your laptop imo, unless you have that 4 years MS store super protection plan, in that case you can play all maxed and heat the cpu everyday lol;)

Can I RMA it and have razer repaste the thermal? I never re-pasted only applied it to a new CPU and motherboard.

Im very afraid to take it off and I don't want to void the warranty even though its one year since im hitting such high temps

I tested D3 for you.. was usually sitting in the 70s sometimes low 80s for CPU temps. I feel like you just got a bad paste job there's no reason for your temps to be this high. Reach out to support and they should take care of you. Some games WILL hit 90+ and that's ok. But if you are getting super high temps all the time then something is wrong.

I’m proud finally see Razer laptop on top 1070 and 8570H Firestrike benchmark :big_grin_::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye_::cool_::rolleyes:

Hey hey it's cheating if you are using the core! Haha

Just giving a hope to rb6freak on 32rd place to get to to higher place, he took also his setting review on egpu.io somehow...and also quite boring seeing MSI laptops on top;) I’m still seeing improvement possibilities since graphics score should at least 20K, hope this could be addressed with software update, like windows or intel update.
Guys how's the Blade 15 temp when just doing light work load like coding after like 4-5 hours straight ? Is it easy to get warm even when not gaming ?

Mine is typically mid 40s to low 50s with low end work. I don't code, but if I'm web browsing, working on a Word doc, Excel sheet etc.

That's what I'm seeing as well.
Hmm. I’m concerned with how hot these things are running. What’s the product life of a laptop running in the high 90s if you game on them regularly?

My old blade 14 2017 sometimes hitting 90 on gaming (AC Origins, FFXV) but never had hardware issues after over a year usage. My Blade 15 now runs in similar cpu temperatures with Blade 14, low 80ish with disabling turbo boost and undervolting it. Performance in real usage isn’t so different with max setting and ultraboost enable, it’s out of box, no repasting. I can make it hitting mid 90 on gaming by maxing all default settings on Far Cry 5 but FPS difference isn’t huge, prefer cooler on high and turbo boost disable, still butter smooth hitting 90ish FPS.
Give me one!
The 13.3" 2k stealth i don't know haha, i want a blade because i'm a Windows Student BUT i haven't money for a second laptop.

I precise that i only have an 2015 Acer with a 960m 4gb 😕

These CPU's are very good at withstanding high temps. Unless you are pegged at 100c most of the time you will be fine.

Its the other components that I worry about, one review I saw, mentioned high temps with the SSD. I'm looking at ways to ensure the entire system doesnt't go into the red, so to speak

There’s a pretty detailed guide on how to cool your SSD in this laptop on reddit.

How good are the temps if turbo boost is disabled?

My 7700HQ model never peaks over 76 in very intensive tasks with undervolt+turbo boost disabled, no repaste

Your is better in terms temperature. Playing games like far cry and AC Origins hours i get around 77 average but sometimes some core (random) hit low to mid 90ish no throttle and performance drops though. It’s similar actually with 7700HQ on my old Blade playing those games over an hour, only now feels butter smooth on high setting, with AC Origins 70~ and far cry 5 90~FPS which I couldn’t do with my previous Blade, and the Fans are quiter on gaming.

Is the BIOS the same as the last Blade 14 model? I.E. : easy to mod and reflash to be able to undervolt from the BIOS?
Joikansai
Not yet checked, still on stress test...playing the rest AC Origins DLC;). If it uses american megatrends with no security signature the procedure for flashing the unlocked Bios might be the same. It could solve power limit throttling but not thermal throttling if there’s any, limiting turbo boost save my temperature similar with 7700HQ, but some core is Bad ash and could get red value alone, but no thermal throttling so far. I’ve enough performance only have to know the cores characters better on my games.

Is there a huge difference in real-life performance between the 1070 Max Q VS when using your 1080ti with the Core?
