I've given up waiting for Support to respond with which RAM upgrades actually work with this bl**dy laptop, so I'm hoping that the community can help.

I have ALREADY tried Crucial Ballistix (1.35v) and found that it wasn't XMP compliant, infact the machine wouldn't even boot with XMP enabled in Bios. I've also tried HyperX 3200 (1.2v) and while it was XMP compliant, the machine consistently crashed when pushed.

So now the options are as follows:

Has anyone tried the two above, if so have you really pushed the machine (Razer 17 Pro 2020) with gaming such as Battlefield 5 etc?

Really desperate for this RAM upgrade now and don't want to have to send any more chips back having wasted time testing them!!

That's exactly it - I've never encountered any kind of questioning for RAM compatibility for RAM that meets the specs other than for Razer - everything else it's just "ok what spec? alright I'll buy something of whatever brand that meets that spec". it's only with Razer that I've encountered people with RAM that should work but doesn't.

good luck on the refund!

I managed to get a full refund! Thank goodness!

Have you tried replacing it with your original RAM back? Once, you've done that, the laptop should have a reset cycle (about 2 times max) and it will boot back up again.

Forgot to mention I set the RAM on 2933Mhz XMP file 2 when this shit happened. So I recommend everyone just change back to stock RAM when doing bios update…also be careful the battery… it sparked when I tried to re-connect it to the motherboard…freaked me out!
I posted in another forum ... this worked for me ...

CORSAIR Vengeance 64GB (2 x 32GB) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2933 (PC4 23400) Laptop Memory Model CMSX64GX4M2A2933C19

Got it off Newegg. Zero complaints, STILL. No hangups, crashes, etc. Go for this, but shop a bit because I paid $319 and Newegg now shows it for $389.

IDK why they chose 2666 - 2933 works perfectly but THIS BRAND.

Man I'm sick and tired of not getting any straight answers to this.... I'm in the same boat and Razer refuses to provide any answers.... I paid 5K for a laptop and there's no information about a simple thing like upgrading the ram??? Looking for 64GB.

It's shocking isn't it, sadly this will be the first and last Razer that I'll buy, next time it's an Alienware for me!

Thanks mate, the worry is that I've tried the 3200 and it was fine at first until I pushed it via gaming, have you really pushed this ram since installing it?

I've ordered the same ram tonight, I'll push it the same way as the 3200 and see how stable it is, I'll report back!

If it fails, I'll send it back and try the Corsair 2666mhz instead...and if that fails then I'll sell the laptop because the only conclusion can be that it's sh*t...
Installed Kingston Hyper X 64 GP 3200 MHz ram into my Pro 17 2020 machine. On Bios 1.04, it would run ok, then hang up after a little bit. This behavior was unexpected as it ran fine on 32 Mhz. Behavior happened usually when using Adobe programs. After reverting back to 32GB Hyper X (2 16GB Sticks) issue again disappeared. Returned ram as I didn't feel like dealing with it at that point. Was too dependent on the machine operating stably to continue to mess around with it until I heard a definitive resolution.

That's interesting, I think that the smaller 16Gb HyperX 3200 sticks have a lower CL than the 32gb sticks right? Perhaps that's related. I'm testing the HyperX 2933 64Gb tonight, I'll report back!
Has anyone tried any of these?

amount of RAM is more important to me than CL timings so these having worse CL numbers isn't really an issue for me - I'm also wondering if the stability problems being reported with e.g. the HyperX is because of the better CL ratings?

Hrmm yeah its as if the laptop bricks RAM it doesn't like. Having said that, the initial installation was a breeze. I slot in the new RAM, turn the laptop on, after one cycle of self reset it boots to Windows. I just don't understand why the RAM can just fail after a few days. The only thing I did differently today was to put my laptop to sleep the night before rather than a shutdown. Again this shouldn't brick the RAM but it'll be interesting if other users notice a similar trend.

have you tried running memtest86?

there is an open source version but even the commercial variant has a free download to create a bootable USB stick: https://www.memtest86.com

I use that every time I get new RAM for any machine - I think it's important to know right off if any RAM you get is flagged by memtest86 as problematic. Some times RAM can be marginal and "normal use" may or may not trigger anything, while a few passes of "intensive RAM usage" is better at helping you identify right off if your RAM is good
Razer pulled all marketing and support collateral see attached screenshot of what used to be on the site.
Support sent me this message followed by offer to appease me with a keyboard and mouse for free..

"We are sorry for the confusion. However, According to the team it has been recently reviewed and confirmed by our engineering team that the Razer Blade Pro 17 does not support XMP. All related articles will be updated and it will be available on our Support Site. "

so I am out the cost of RAM cant return it and Razer just says sorry we said it would do something but actually it does not do that.
... wow.

It does explain all the random problems so many people have had with RAM - basically the laptops are not able to operate per the spec that they said they could.

this ... is not acceptable.

Tried everything. It would not even boot to the bios picture. Only the keyboard lights was on and indicator flashed slowly. No Fan, no sounds, no picture. I was pretty sure the bios was dead. Anyway, I have a replacement now and it’s running 2x16G HyperX on XMP 3200Mhz without any issue… I just stay on bios 1.04. No more risk…

I had that exact issue when my RAM died; I freaked. Thankfully replacing the original RAM works for me. So, it seems that the bios 1.06 is causing issues.
So has anyone had any success with this? Any further updates? I am still searching for a RELIABLE but still fast (3200Mhz) 64Gb option. I also use this PC for work as some others have stated above, that being said I do not want to d1ck around with spending another 400 dollars only to be installing my next endless migraine!
I also noticed that you can buy these laptops (Pre-Modified) from "HIDevolution".. They literally offer modded units spec'd upto 8TB PCIe SSD and 64GB 2666MHz RAM.. WHAT DO THEY KNOW/DO that we do not!?!? WHY are they only using 2666??? These are all over Newegg for sale, only Newegg does not specify which RAM they are using. They only specify the speed.
I suppose I will now go track down this "HIDevolution" co. and see what the actual F they are using. Please for the love of god someone resolve this!

I look forward to one day here soon seeing that someone has found a solid solution so I can finally have a 64GB upgrade, as this16 just aint cuttn' it for me and Adobe ah hah!

I am still waiting for my HyperX 32 GB set (CL17, 2933 Mhz Jadec).

I hope this would be a quick swap as 1, it has the same rated max memory speed for the 10th gen I7 and 2, it does not require an XMP profile to run that speed.

Will update you once I get my set (Hopefully next week)
I bought the 32GB 3200 HyperX (1.2v) for my Razer 17 Pro 2020 and I've not had a single crash despite hours of play with MSFS 2020 which is an extremely demanding game memory-wise. Bios 1.04. Runs at 3200 even not selecting XMP profile in the bios (confirmed using HWiNFO64).

I had the same crashes you did with the Ballistix 1.35V
I had less success with the HyperX 2933mhz memory and had more system crashes than the HyperX 3200mhz. The 3200 still crashed for me though. Running bios 1.04 and using the 2933mhz xmp profile was better but games still crashed.

Thanks for the replies guys, @rjkrejci it's interesting that you're not seeing any crashing, Battlefield 5 is far more demanding that Flight Simulator in my experience due to the massive difference in on-screen action and raytracing features. I won't be trying the 3200 again, I'm tempted now to try the Vengeance next!

I don't know the amount of stress the action and Raytracing puts on the System memory vs. the GPU and it's memory. MSFS 2020 has just a massive amount of textures and long distances. It's using 16-17 GB of RAM memory constantly while playing and I've had it running for many hours. Did you select the XMP profile or leave it at default? I left it at default, and it still runs at 3200.
Userlevel 3
Yes I tried the default XMP profile which is selected automatically at 3200mhz, I also tried the lower 2933mhz profile but no success, still crashes after about 15 minutes of gaming :slightly_sad:
Received and installed Kingston HyperX 32Gb (CL16-2933 Mhz) worked like a charm. I did have some black screen at the beginning and only the keyboard was lighting. It turned on and off (while screen is black) for a few times before it finally came to life. Stress test and game test passed.

Thanks mate, the worry is that I've tried the 3200 and it was fine at first until I pushed it via gaming, have you really pushed this ram since installing it?

I've ordered the same ram tonight, I'll push it the same way as the 3200 and see how stable it is, I'll report back!

I have the 2Rx8 and correction, it is a CL17@2933Mhz btw...tested in with Forza Horizon 4, Star Wars Fallen Order, Prime95 blended (maxes the ram), Cinebench R20 and Geekbench 5 benchmarks...passed! I did have some black screens at the beginning which quite scared me but it worked after a while and went on to start windows. XMP profile 1 is same as the default and XMP 2 is 2666Mhz CL16
Hope this helps

Userlevel 3
Thanks mate, I have the same machine but with 2080 Super Max Q, good that you've pushed it so fingers crossed this ram will work for me too!
Yea, putting in new memory takes a few iterations of POST before it makes it to windows. Agreed, the first time it does it it's a little stressful.
