Guys Trying to help someone who's got the new RB15 and using ThrottleStop, balanced power and balanced synapse is getting an idle power of 12W. I asked him to factory reset it and still the same.
Is this normal? I know the bios is different and works on C10 or something but really want to help this chap.
Ideas?

Check 3rd apps that eat battery even not opened, like HP software, chrome, or gpu switcher. Try inactive or uninstall them and see.
Cheers for reply. I got him to factory reset it so its as was.

On right after fresh install there’s tons apps, windows, Intel, nvidia, Synapse etc softwares are doing optimization back there. Is it done as well? It should eat a lot battery life as well, finish all of that things. It took me a week to be free from bad 2 to 3 hours battery life.
cool, just wanted to double check as I don't own that device and its not something obvious.

Yes check any apps that show on this arrow, some usually eat battery even not opened.
just to be clear its not the battery issue its when plugged into mains TS is saying its power usage is 12W as a comparison my RB15 1070 is like 1.2W

Ups my bad thought it’s battery issue. Can you upload your 1,2 watt power usage, it’s too low I think. Here’s my 1070 8750H. Plugged idle power usage.

Do you get 1.2 on idle even though you have opened applications? Because I'm able to get that in idle, now that I'm working it's fluctuating but as soon as I stop working and check ThrottleStop the values decrease to a number under 2.0 W
will do later. hmm I think TS isn't doing anything to the processor or something is stopping it. is that a possibility?
as lowering the voltage doesn't seem to do anything
no just ts opened for me it goes to 1.2W. in other words when the laptop is ide

Wait wait guys, what are you talking about, am I missing something? This’s 8750H we’re taking about not ultrabook cpu, how can it goes to 1.2 watt? It’s 45 watt tdp may boost to 60watt or higher, on balanced mode it’ll be limited around 25 watt or lower, idle is under 10 watt but not 1,xx like ultrabook cpu that mostly with 15 Watt tdp. Here’s some cpu power usage comparison.
this is what we mean

as to the question ts is working with my friends laptop it looks like its a bios issue. will post more when we know

Yes it’s cpu tdp, I sometimes also noticed under 2 watt but super rarely. Usually averaging 5 to watt. You’re probably limiting Turbo boost amplifier or processor power state % a lot, and that answer my question. I don’t limiting all of those. Can you try running cinebench 15 and get multi score around 1200cb or xtu benchmark score around 1500?
We are running all in Balanced mode, synaps and power plan.
Core 1 39
Core 2 37
Core 3 37
Core 4 36
Core 5 35
Core 6 35
CPU core and Cache offset -0.1250
Intel GPU offset -0.0400
So at those settings of the new 2019 model my friend is getting idle at 12W compared to my 2018 model of 1.2W
So is that normal or is there an issue?
Hi

Just to advise that I've swapped my 2018 4k/60Hz GTX 1070 Razer for a 2019 RTX 2080 144Hz/Hz

Big plus:
If anyone is thinking of the switch this thing runs MUCH cooler - where the old one even say just showing a citrix/Chrome window might spin up the fans - this one is silent/fanless until actually stressing out the CPU/GPU.

Okay:
I don't mind 1080 vs 4k to be honest. I spent most of the time on the 4k model wishing some less well-coded apps scaled their fonts properly.
I don't miss the touch-screen which I used only occasionally when touching/resizing photos. Maybe I'm just a die-hard mouse user.

Less good:
Compared to the 4k the black levels are less good.
Also I didn't realise just how easily I would notice the colour-gamut differences. Most easily seen on the "Razer-Green".
In Razer Synapse - where the Razer-green represented on screen on the 4k model would not look that different to the electric-green on the keyboard or razer logo on the back. Very bright and super-saturated. The 144Hz model is no-where near. Increasing the brightness just reduces the saturation.

Benchmarks
I'll update benchmarks shortly but on my first try of 3D mark the tool advised that the GPU drivers were not standard so wouldn't calc a score.

I think certainly the 2018 4k model I had was a bit of a unicorn - It would undervolt almost indefinitely without blue-screen/forceclosing (although I did note that past a sweet-spot of 140-150 that throttling/performance ceased to improve and then as volts decreased performance first ceased to improve and then from around 160 actually started to decrease)

It’s pretty normal for undervolting value and amplifier limitation not too huge, interesting that your is often on 1.2 which means you have super power efficient cpu (in this case maybe you get decent battery life?). Mine is between 5 to 12 watt (-13mV normal uV, -70mV imo tweak uV value) on idle which is totally fine as that Notebookcheck article wrote. Usually user complains high tdp on idle if it’s over 20 Watt and mostly on battery life theme. Actually I don’t care idle 45Watt if it’s plugged since I need that performance on every single tasks:smile_: On battery it’s different story.

Thank for ever so much for your reply. This will make my friend happy to know he hasn't got an issue.
Yes my battery life is good. Posted some YouTube clips about it in the past.
Even on my 4K baby.

Told him I was talking to the best person on it. Thanks again for help and likes on my posts. Really get a kick out of it.

Updated results with UV and a light OC of the GPU core/Mem.
(the 2018 model is a more refined tune although I can't quite remember the settings for GPU - but from a quick play there's less capacity to improve no the 2019. This is -140 CPU UV and +250/+180 GPU. You'll see thermals are still much better)

That’s great score. Do you mean overclocking gpu +180 on core and +250 on memory clock right?
Side note 2018 model isn’t 2070 but 1070, should i correct it again:smile_:

fixed thanks. yes I meant core / mem clock. I actually think i had that GPU OC core/mem as 50/250 when I tested.

If you’ve good cpu silicons lottery try -150 or maybe -160mv undervolting usually on synthetic benchmarks it can go lower than gaming, and rtx Card memory frequency can be OC a lot, on egpu 2080 I can push it to max afterburner value 1000mhz, but you can maybe try 600 or 700mhz. And for Core Clock i thought you had +180 which’s great for 2080 on full desktop Evga 2080 on Razer Core i can only get 160. But if it’s +50 it should go higher.

I actually got it upside down first try 400/200 and it didn't blow up. lol

Of course it’s not a “obligation“;) but some users stress their system first to know its limits and 3Dmark is great and fun to do than usual stress test because it has score achievement. In 2018 1070maxq we made magic 15K score, users try to catch that firestrike overall score, it was pretty fun. On daily usage I don’t use that 15K profile anyway, only sometimes for showing:wink_: Maybe for 2019 model magic 18,5K:smile_:
I think you don’t have to be worried if you don’t use it daily, even when it crash windows has automatic protection called bsod lol:big_grin_:

Erm

How do you recover from a BSOD that now goes to a black screen after the reader logo.
I presume Windows booted because keyboard chroma is operating But even safe mode is dead.
Yikes

Edit : to clarify the BSOD was at least an hour after the last perf test and all configured was reset to factory.

Sod it resetting pc keeping data else will wipe and send it back.
Disappointed that even safe mode with networking won't start to let me grab the files.

Edit: and we're back in action. Must've been a dodgy background update or something although I thought I'd turned those off.
Edit2:. Everything reinstalled except geforce experience. Error code 00003 whatever that means when starting
