Rock your Razer Chroma devices with the Audio Visualizer

Let your Razer Chroma-enabled devices rock to your beats with the beta Audio Visualizer, developed on the latest Razer Chroma SDK 4.8.

Fire off the colors not just on your Razer BlackWidow Chroma, but also on the newly supported Razer Mamba TE & Razer Firefly!

*EDIT* 19th January 2016
Hey everyone! I can't believe it has already almost been 4 months since this post came up and Chroma has come a long way since then! The Audio Visualizer is no longer an early build and the setup process is very simple, I've updated the steps below accordingly.

We’ll let the video du-du-du-du-do the showing:

We really appreciate all the work our community developers have put in to push the potential of the Razer Chroma technology and our friend @CalcProgrammer1 has really done a solid job on the Audio Visualizer. This new Audio Visualizer gives you the freedom to customize the color scheme and tweak its amplitude so you are only limited by your own creativity. Did we mention it’ll not just react to your music, but also to game audio?

Here’s how to get the fun started:

  • Ensure that you have connected you Chroma device and updated Synapse to the latest version
  • Once updated, make sure that under your Chroma device > Chroma Apps tab, you have "Chroma Apps" turned on
  • Head over to the Chroma Workshop and download the Audio Visualizer
  • Install the vc_redist.x86.exe file that comes together in the zip
  • Launch the Audio Visualizer and get rockin'

Have a go at it and show us what you are doing with your Chroma hardware.

FAQs:

To those facing the "mfc140.dll is missing" issue
Download the Visual Studio Redistributable version "vc_redist.x86.exe"

As this is a very early build, it clashes with Advanced Configurator occasionally.

Change your effects to the default ones e.g. Wave, Spectrum Cycling. You can then launch the application and your keyboard/mousemat/mice will show a blank slate until a sound is played.

What products does it work with? *EDIT*
It works with...

  • BlackWidow Chroma / TE
  • DeathStalker Chroma
  • Firefly
  • Diamondback
  • Naga Chroma/Naga Epic
  • Mamba TE/Mamba wireless
  • Orochi
  • DeathAdder Chroma
  • Tartarus Chroma
  • Orbweaver Chroma
  • Kraken 7.1 Chroma

The visualizer bars are really low, anyway to fix that?
You can bump the bar's height up by increasing the amplitude or your volume (not too much please).

How do I get the colours like the ones in the video?
Adjust "Foreground Mode" to the colour scheme that you like. In the video, I used "Rainbow Inverse". You can also add a "Background Mode" should you like.

Does it react to any sounds besides music?
It takes your Windows sound input, hence any sound - including your games or movies!

Do I have to turn off Synapse?
Closing Synapse before launching the app will be the safest.

Keyboard goes black but it does not react to any audio
As the program is reliant on some limited functions by Windows, be sure that your volume is cranked up or adjust the "Amplitude" to a higher value (Try in the 500s or 1000s)

I can't get it to work due to misc reasons that we have yet to identify
I apologize for this, this was meant to be a beta build and I shared it earlier as I knew the video will get you guys psyched for the app! We are using your feedbacks to build a better experience.

While it may be tedious right now, we WILL be reducing the steps and processes in due time with Synapse and etc. That is on top of more product support. Hang in there!

Attention. Will not work if you are using virtual surround software.
atleast it didnt for me until i turned off surround sound pro.
tried setting realtek HD audio manager to 5.1. It also made the keyboard only light up on the right side.

Under the format tab of the audio settings, what frequency are you using? If it's high (96000 or 192000Hz) then that should condense the waveform to the LEFT side of the keyboard. It's a known issue, as I'm assuming CD-quality 44.1KHz input. I skip every 4 samples to effectively have an ~8KHz data sample to run the FFT on which becomes the visualizer. If I did much higher than that it would lose detail at the low end. On systems with higher sample rates, this skipping every 4 produces a result that is essentially 16KHz or higher, which compresses the visualizer by nature of the frequency change.

I don't have one of those either, that only has two lights on it right? To work well with visualizer it would need LED strips like the Mamba TE and Firefly have. At best I could have it display the background color. I could do pulsing brightness but it would need some work to use all the colors.
The way i got it working:
- Download the Visual C++ stuff and install both x86 and x64
- Download SDK Installers
- Install "Razer_Chroma_SDK_Core_v0.4.8"
- Extract the "Razer_Chroma_SDK_Documentation_Beta4.8"
- Click on "Enable SDK support(x86) and (x64) aswell
- Open the "KeyboardVisualizerVC"

ps: if your default windows playback option is 5.1 or 7.1 surround, it will mainly work in the center arrows, set to stereo and it should be fine. As stated before, 16 bit/44100hz produce a more natural representation.

I personally use 24/192khz with Amplitude 200% and Average Mode in Low Pass. Set Foreground to Rainbow and it's super awesome!

Working on Razer Blackwidow Chroma with Razer Green Switches.
Hope it helps you guys!

If you give to make at least one light , it is more than necessary , the important thing is to give the feeling of " Beats"
thanks for the help in the setup, here i made mine work 😃
Hey guys, I apologize.

Right now, we only have support for the Mamba TE, Blackwidow Chroma and Firefly.

BUT fret not, we will potentially see an update coming with more products supported 🙂 This is still an early build! We will keep you guys updated.
this is actually fun 🙂
having real troubles getting the vc_redist files. Microsoft's website is broken, wont let me download ANYTHING. what an absolute shame.

Edit: Ok, to anyone else having the same issue as me, a window will popup if you click on the "if your download doesn't start, click here" link on microsoft's website, then you will see 2 options with tickboxes to the left, (x64 and x86) click the links in the center. for some strange reason microsoft wont let you download them automatically.
i just get the firefly to work not my chroma te

Chroma TE isn't supported at the current beta version, but @CalcProgrammer1 and I are working on adding more product support to it :)

Thus, BW TE Chroma/Kraken 7.1 Chroma/DA Chroma users - stay tuned!

Try using Internet explorer sir.

My worst nightmare is Internet Explorer but ill try
Simple amazing!
Wish it is actually working on non chroma

Try using Internet explorer sir.

Thanks it works fine now
this isn't working on my razer blackwidow chroma stealth edition. is it because it's stealth? i don't think so, and it doesn't even make sense tbh. what happens is the keyboard visualizer works, cause it picks up the sound waves but it doesn't transmit them to the chroma, maybe i'm just missing some parts, but it doesn't seem to work

I see, thats why i cant make it work with my BWCTE. Anyways im looking forward for the another update hoping that it will support BWCTE and DeathAdder Chroma 🙂
The Audio Visualizer looks really nice, good job Razer!

Hey @JoshBGaming , @ParkourEDM and @bluemoonman99

Have you guys also followed through the 2nd to 4th steps too? Installing the SDK Core Files along with enabling the SDK Registry files are important steps.

After changing your effects to the default lighting profiles, you can also exit Synapse to be doubly sure.

This is still an very early build so fret not! Things will get easier in the future :)

@CalcProgrammer1 will also be taking in your feedbacks into consideration for future versions.

Thats nice! it works for me but even if I got the Amplitude on 100% I have to turn up my Windows Volume to 100% to get the effect shown in the video. I have to turn my Speakers down to like 1-5% and thats not how it should be I guess. But this version works better than the old one! Good Job :D

Would love to see this and other effects like the (Philips) "Ambilight" on Synapse soon.
It doesn't work for me... I did all steps and when I open audio visualiser and play some music nothing happens... Can you please help me? I use BlackWidow Chroma.
its works for me, but the area of lights show up just a little. only about ENTER key area. I tried the other songs but its the same. any idea ?
very good job

What do you mean "enable", this might be my problem. Thanks

Enable SDK Support.reg it sais in the instructions. you downloaded the virtual blablabla x84 or the other one. but enable the other sdk support. hope you understand what i mean 😛 I'm bad in explayning 😛
Works best with Amplitude between 150-200% past that it's way to fast, for me at least. Thank you Razer for doing this!!!
