Barracuda x (2022) firmware update not working

leetMidnightBlueguide220

Hello guys!

I’ve detailed an issue with my Barracuda X (2022) headphones and the mobile app in the following 'link.' This is a separate problem, but it might be related: I’m unable to update the firmware on my headphones.

While they work perfectly for audio via both the dongle and Bluetooth, the updater fails to detect the device, despite my careful adherence to the provided instructions.

I’d greatly appreciate any advice or guidance on how to resolve this issue.

Hey, I just purchased one today and I’m facing the same issue!

I attached an image of my issue, its stuck at the page detecting the usb dongle being plugged in.

Sound is coming out fine from my PC so it’s definitely plugged in and detected by Windows.

I hope someone from support can help us with this issue.

I received a replacement Barracuda X 2022 headset from Razer a few days ago (thanks) and have the same issue regarding not being able to upgrade or check firmware on three different computers.  If I find something that works I’ll let you know.  (Will check back occasionally.)

I’m not sure if this is related or not, but I’ve read elsewhere if you use Bluetooth+microphone at the same time, it will switch to mono audio.  I confirmed this on one PC of mine using the Bluetooth connection.

Hey, any news from Razer support or anything to update the firmware of the Barracuda X 2022? I have the same firmware issue.

I have Case# 250131-000297 opened with tech support on Jan 30th.  So far, we’ve been going back and forth regarding logs and trying a few different things but no answer yet.  They are escalating this and generally those replies take a few days for someone new to respond.

So I’m waiting yet; hopefully the escalation makes it to a hardware guy or programmer eventually….

Four days ago Khyven asked me whether the LED was green (yes it always is when connected to the Razer dongle) and three days ago Chester was forwarding it back to the internal team.  Being the weekend, I probably won’t see any reply until Monday or Tuesday I’m thinking.

Khyven replied that due to the complexity of this problem they don’t have an estimate on the fix yet for us.  But they are responding to my ticket.  If not by Friday, probably next week.

So what would be the solution to update the firmware? And if we wait for the programmers to release a new version updating this case, it would be a long time since this latest update is already on May 6, 2024. And I have also read that some people did manage to update the firmware and I think some of them could because before this update of this update there was v1.7.0.0_r2 another one and surely they had the previous one before this latest version came out so they had no problems updating the new firmware. On the other hand, we currently have the base firmware version that is, factory does not have any firmware version update and maybe this factory version with the latest version that was released is presenting this update jump problem. This is what I think is happening. You could try contacting Razer to pass you the firmware download link an earlier version than the current one that is v1.7.0.0_r2 and by the way, thank you for reporting this case

It’s a bit of a guess on our part as to what would make the firmware update work.  Since I can’t get the latest update firmware to recognize the dongle/headset I can’t say what version of firmware is on the dongle right now.  Tech support has not suggested trying older firmware, but I can suggest that next time they contact me.  As you say, they should have access to the older firmware internally.  I don’t know at the moment whether they are contacting the firmware/programming group.

Due to the number of reports being on the increase here, I can only see this problem getting worse as time goes on.  It’s a bit of a bummer having to wait this long, but I think this type of problem we have isn’t common either.

Please keep us updated as most of us have this exact same problem
I just got mine today and not being able to update firmware after getting a new device just feels weird

Frosty04, I double-checked my support ticket and there hasn’t been an update posted since Feb 27th when Annalie T replied last.

There’s been quite a few views on this posting now, almost up to 500.

Guess there's no use updating now then

Only Razer can fix this

I’m actually running the latest version of Windows 11 (24H2) on three different computers.  One is an AMD laptop, another an Intel desktop, and the third is an AMD desktop.  None of them were able to run the update firmware as I (we) have done in the past.

I was wondering myself if the Windows version made a difference, but GianGD confirmed that he’s using an older version of Windows 11 without any luck there either.

I'm really sorry to say this but unfortunately I'm giving up.

The reason why I chose to upgrade to Barracuda X 2022 was because of the good reviews (and also it was on sale for only $35).

This would've been my very first wireless headset after years of gaming and I had high expectations for it.

I know for its price you can't really compare it to other $150+ headsets, but it's said to be one of the best in its price range.

At first I thought that the problems were just the firmware and the light indicator, which for me are already kinda annoying but I tried to just get on with it.

However the problems became more apparent after I tried using it for the very first time especially the connection issue and the sound quality.

In some cases it works fine, but sometimes it cuts out and the latency becomes unbearable.

Not only that, but it fails in comparison to the sound quality of my Razer Blackshark V2X USB which is more bassy.

So yeah, I'm giving up on the Barracuda X because I can't see any reason to enjoy it in its current state, or ever.

Hopefully this problem gets sorted out for you guys soon. Thank you.

PS: Sorry for the long post.

Frosty04, thanks for your comments either way.  My Barracuda X 2022 is a replacement from my prior Barracuda X 2022 (that had an unreliable dongle which was not recognized occasionally on a cold boot).  Hopefully Razer will read this and speed up their problem solving skills, or at least make the replacement dongles more readily available.  I’m guessing that it is a dongle problem again.

I’ll wait and see what happens and will keep everyone else here posted when I get an answer.

I may have some good news.  I received a follow-up message from Razer support today linking me to a web page with a new firmware update tool.  I tried it, and the tool worked normally as it did in the past.  It says I’m on the current firmware, headset fw 1.7.0 and dongle fw 2.0.0.  It seems that the dongle was perhaps “too new” to be detected and that was my hunch.  But until I see it working, how do I know…

I asked and was told it’s OK to share this link, but that the new fw update tool will be on the Razer site “soon”.  So here is v1.7.0_r4, which should show up in the usual Razer support section eventually.

https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15083

Hope that works for everyone here now, and you get a confirmation or update.  I’m closing the ticket next with Razer.

I tried it and well now the "firmware updater" does recognize the hearing aids correctly but it says that the hearing aids are already in their latest version, so in conclusion there was no firmware update.
